Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Spirit-Slaying Sword Talisman
"Ah!"
Zong Ziqi cried out in alarm.
Qin Muxian’s brow furrowed.
On the shield formed by the Sub-Insects, right where it met the Beast Nether Sword, a steady stream of the creatures crawled from the shield onto the blade. One by one, they opened their wide mouths, gnawing on the sword with their dense, hard teeth!
Seeing the Spiritual Light of his Beast Nether Sword gradually dimming, Qin Muxian knew this was bad. He immediately retrieved a Talisman from his Storage Bag.
A sword’s silhouette was drawn on the Talisman, and the pressure it emitted was so immense that even Qin Muxian found it difficult to bear.
"Ziqi, I need to activate a Tier Two Top Grade Spirit-Slaying Sword Talisman. It will take me a few moments. Hold them off for me!"
After speaking, Qin Muxian slapped a Defense Type Talisman on himself and began activating the Spirit-Slaying Sword Talisman.
Zong Ziqi felt the pressure mount, but at the same time, a surge of excitement rose within him!
Before, he could only watch his master fight the Tier Two Mother Insect, completely unable to contribute. The anxiety had been eating at him.
If this continued, even if the Mother Insect died, it would be as if he had made no contribution at all.
That would do nothing to vanquish his Heart Demon!
But now, even though he had to face the Mother Insect’s assault, there wasn’t a trace of fear in his heart—only boundless fighting spirit!
Zong Ziqi’s soaring battle spirit caused the Sword Intent within him, which had quieted somewhat since its awakening, to once again shine with brilliant light!
As Qin Muxian began to channel the Spirit-Slaying Sword Talisman, his face became covered in fine beads of sweat. The Talisman’s terrifying pressure forced his body into a hunched posture.
A Foundation Establishment Middle Stage Cultivator activating a Tier Two Top Grade Talisman was pushing far beyond their level. Naturally, it placed immense strain on his Divine Sense, not to mention he was still controlling the Beast Nether Sword.
It was only because the Beast Nether Sword was his Lifebound Spiritual Artifact that he had any spare capacity to activate the Spirit-Slaying Sword Talisman at all!
The disturbance from Qin Muxian activating the Spirit-Slaying Sword Talisman was too great, drawing the attention of the Mother Insect in the sky. The creature shrieked, and some of the Sub-Insects holding back the Beast Nether Sword immediately broke off and flew downward.
Unexpectedly, however, too many Sub-Insects had split off from the shield. The Beast Nether Sword’s Spiritual Light flared, and it immediately pressed forward. The shield actually showed signs of shattering!
Startled, the Mother Insect shrieked again. Most of the Sub-Insects flying toward Qin Muxian returned to reinforce the shield, holding off the Beast Nether Sword once more.
As a result, the number of Sub-Insects heading for Zong Ziqi and his master was greatly reduced.
But even with fewer of them, dozens of Sub-Insects were still swarming toward Zong Ziqi!
One must remember that Zong Ziqi was only a Body Refining Middle Stage Cultivator, whereas those Sub-Insects had all reached Tier Two!
Even if they were the absolute weakest examples of Tier Two creatures, they were still equivalent to the Foundation Establishment realm!
Facing these dozens of Sub-Insects, Zong Ziqi’s soaring fighting spirit left him fearless!
His breathing pattern suddenly changed. His aura became like a thunderbolt—swift and explosive. Tiny arcs of electricity crackled across his body, making him look like a Thunder God!
He held the scabbard of the Profound Dragon Sword in his left hand, his right hand gripping the hilt.
’I haven’t truly fought an enemy with the Profound Dragon Sword in months. Today, I’ll finally let loose with it!’
With that thought, he drew his sword!
A single sword stirred the autumn winds. The green-tinged blade flashed, and silver light flared, rippling like water and twinkling like a field of stars. It moved like a dragon, twisting and turning; like a phoenix, soaring through the nine heavens; like a colorful butterfly, dancing lightly on the breeze; like the first rays of dawn, scattering brilliance.
No matter how fast the Tier Two Sub-Insects flew or how hard their carapaces were, they were all sliced in two!
But there were simply too many of them. The dozens of Sub-Insects made it exceptionally difficult for Zong Ziqi to cope.
Furthermore, when the Mother Insect saw how many Sub-Insects were dying on Zong Ziqi’s side, it sent another batch over as reinforcements!
"Master, are you not done yet?!"
Zong Ziqi was reaching his limit.
Breathing Techniques also consumed stamina, and this was especially true for the Thunderbolt Breathing Technique.
Its price for extreme bursts of explosive power was the complete consumption of his stamina in just a few dozen seconds.
Qin Muxian was at the final, critical moment. He had no mind to answer Zong Ziqi; he hadn’t even heard him.
Zong Ziqi glanced in Qin Muxian’s direction, then grit his teeth. He pulled out a dozen or so Talismans from his robes, then sliced his palm open with his sword, soaking the Talismans in blood!
Because Body Cultivators have no Qi Sea, they possess no Magical Power.
However, they can use their own blood, which is rich in Spiritual Qi, to activate and release Talismans with their Spiritual Power.
Once these dozen-odd Talismans were activated, Zong Ziqi’s speed suddenly skyrocketed, and a golden protective barrier appeared around his body.
Four or five fireballs also shot toward the Sub-Insects!
However, when the fireballs struck the Sub-Insects, they failed to cause any significant damage, and the creatures continued to fly toward Zong Ziqi.
But immediately following them were four or five gusts of howling, cold wind!
The wind was bone-chillingly cold, instantly covering all the remaining Sub-Insects in a layer of frost!
Although it wasn’t enough to freeze them solid, it slowed them down to a certain extent. Combined with the Light Body Talisman Zong Ziqi had used, he could now maneuver around them with ease!
"HAAH!"
A mighty roar!
Zong Ziqi turned to look and saw that Qin Muxian had succeeded!
Qin Muxian’s expression was savage; he was clearly not faring well.
Floating before him was a palm-sized small sword that looked completely unremarkable.
"Kill!"
With the command, the small sword shot off, flying toward the Mother Insect.
Upon seeing the small sword, the Mother Insect panicked. It recalled all the Sub-Insects, turning them back into patterns on its body, then turned to flee.
"Trying to run? Too late!"
Qin Muxian watched the small sword, his heart aching at the cost.
The value of a Tier Two Top Grade Talisman was astonishingly high. It contained the full-power strike of a Fake Pill Cultivator. He had paid an exorbitant price to obtain it back then, and he was extremely reluctant to use it now.
But this was no longer a simple matter of revenge. If he didn’t act now, it was likely that both master and disciple would end up devoured by the insects!
The small sword flew through the air, stabbing straight toward the Mother Insect. It looked plain and ordinary, but upon closer inspection, the very space around it was slightly warped, a chilling sight to behold!
The Mother Insect hadn’t shown the slightest panic even when facing Qin Muxian’s Beast Nether Sword, yet now, before this small sword, it could only flee in terror.
Unfortunately for it, it was already locked on by the Spirit-Slaying Sword Talisman. Fleeing was utterly useless!
Seeing this, the Mother Insect stopped fleeing and resolutely turned back. Facing the terrifying Sword Talisman, all the patterns on its body floated off, forming a new Mother Insect made of patterns just outside its body!
The moment this newly formed Mother Insect appeared, it charged straight at the Sword Talisman and collided with it directly!
And upon contact with the Sword Talisman, that Mother Insect was instantly annihilated.
But at the same time, the Sword Talisman lost its target and stopped in its tracks!
"Damn it!"
