Chapter 164: Chapter 164: I Accept Your Confession (5)
On the screen, a somewhat familiar number appeared. She thought for a moment and remembered it was Nathan Leafcastle’s phone number.
Calling so late, could it be news about the old house?
The snapshot from earlier flashed before her eyes, and Vera Wave reached out to answer the call.
"Hello?"
Nathan Leafcastle’s voice was deep on the phone, "What time do you get off work tomorrow? I’ll pick you up. I’ve found some clues about the old house and want to discuss them with you."
Hearing there were clues about the old house, Vera felt a surge of joy, "There’s no need to trouble you to pick me up. Just tell me the location, and I’ll come find you."
"Well... let’s see how it goes tomorrow, and we’ll get in touch again."
"Okay, Ya—" She instinctively wanted to address him as Mr. Leafcastle, but quickly changed her tone, "Brother Nathan, thank you."
Hearing her more affectionate address, the corners of Nathan Leafcastle’s lips lifted as well.
"See you tomorrow."
"Alright."
Vera hung up the phone and sat back down by the coffee table, opened her laptop, and began writing the plan.
...
...
In the suburbs, at Frame Horse Racing Ground.
A blue sports car slowly drove through the entrance of the horse ground and stopped at the steps of the riding center. Seeing Kris Cooper’s car, Lucas Sail, the horse ground manager, immediately jogged down the steps from the reception door to help open the car door for him.
"Mr. Cooper."
Kris Cooper stretched his leg out of the car and glanced around, "Where’s the horse?!"
"It will be here soon." Manager Lucas smiled and raised his right hand, "Would you like to sit inside and have some tea? I’ll keep an eye out for you here, and as soon as the vehicle arrives, I’ll let you know."
"No need." Kris Cooper leaned against the car body, "I’ll wait right here!"
"Then... shall I get you a drink?"
Just as Manager Lucas finished his sentence, the distant sound of a horn echoed, and a box truck drove into the horse ground.
"Look, it’s here."
Manager Lucas jogged over to meet the truck, directing it to park. Kris Cooper followed behind him.
The truck door opened, and a staff member took out a key to unlock the rear compartment of the truck. Kris Cooper jumped into the truck, and a white figure immediately approached him from inside.
It was a tall and sturdy Arabian Horse, without a single stray hair, its coat shone like silk under the lights, with long, silver tassel-like mane, beautiful and noble.
"You rascal, after such a long plane ride, you must be uncomfortable!" Kris Cooper affectionately patted the horse’s back and jumped down, "Bailey, come down!"
Before the staff could bring over a ramp, the white horse Bailey had already jumped out of the truck. Kris Cooper gently patted its back, and the white horse, long bored from the journey, immediately stretched its legs towards the pasture and galloped off.
"This..." Manager Lucas came next to Kris Cooper, a bit worriedly watching Bailey run off, "Is it okay?"
"It’s fine." Kris Cooper’s gaze followed the white horse enjoying itself on the pasture, and only when he saw it slowing down did he raise his hand and whistle.
The white horse heard his whistle and immediately turned back towards the truck, standing by his side again.
Taking an apple from the staff, Kris Cooper offered it to Bailey’s mouth, patting its back as it ate.
"Eat slowly, don’t rush! In a few days, I’ll bring the little princess to see you." Wrapping his arm around the big guy’s neck, Kris Cooper smiled and patted its body, "I know you must miss her too."
