Chapter 184: Total Domination

Kai stood straight like an arrow and motionless like a statue.

He watched the eager Ourania student grinning at him as if his beating was guaranteed.

Cheekily, the Ourania student exuded his aura, exposing how much mana he has; trying to intimidate Kai, who was merely a Lesser Angel, with his superiority. But he got no reaction from Kai.

Nothing at all.

And he also noticed the Eventide students were chuckling among themselves.

Almost like they were watching a clown performing a trick.

’Heh, I might not have a ridiculous amount of mana—but I’m far superior to you losers in terms of combat prowess,’ the Ourania student snickered inwardly. ’For a batch who couldn’t even take out a Lesser Angel; these guys sure acted like hot-shots.’

On the side, the bald professor looked at the Ourania student.

"Remember, the spar would continue until one of you is unconscious, one gives up, or I stop it. Heed the rule or suffer the consequences. Angel Mattew, are you ready?"

"Yes."

He turned toward Kai.

"Lesser Angel Kai, are you ready?"

"Mn."

Once the two fighters were ready, the bald professor made the signal, "Start!"

Instead of immediately attacking, Matthew straightened his posture—and turned to the bald professor. A playful smile played on his lips, "Professor, can you make an exception for this match? Can you let us use mana?"

"Angel Matthew, this is only a spar. Not a battle to the death."

"Yes, I understand. But you see, I’m afraid that the Lesser Angel wouldn’t be able to hurt me. It’ll not be effective sparring if he can’t at least have the ability to hurt me. Besides, he’s a Lesser Angel. Should be fine to make an exception."

Naturally, the bald professor wasn’t convinced.

He didn’t want this to be a battle to the death, but he saw that Kai gave him a nod.

It was almost like Kai was telling him that it’s fine.

"Okay, for this match only, I’ll allow both of you to use your Legacy Skills and Imprints," He finally announced. Since he’ll have to side against the Lesser Angel, he didn’t mind allowing this. "But no fatal attack. Be mindful of one another."

Almost instantly, the crowd burst into a heckle.

"Hah, the Lesser Angel is screwed now."

"Accidents can happen when one uses mana; that’s what Matthew is going for."

"I can’t believe a Lesser Angel survived this long; the Eventide Academy is full of pussies."

On the other hand, Dorian slapped his thigh and laughed. Bryan also laughed. Both of them couldn’t believe the situation Kai was in—and pitied the Ourania student. He didn’t realize it yet, but he had dug his own grave.

"Kai is going to fucking rock him."

"He might need to hold back, or that guy is dead."

In the arena, Matthew fixated his gaze on Kai and smirked.

"You got lucky for getting into the Eventide Academy. Had you gotten into mine, you would probably be dead on the first day, even if you survived the Blood Rite. Unlike the students here, we, in the Ourania Academy, aren’t weaklings."

"So much babbling. Just come at me."

"Heh—still trying to act tough when you’re shivering inside?" Matthew chuckled at the brave façade Kai was wearing. Or at least he assumed it was a brave façade. "If I attacked you right away, then this spar would end instantly. I’ll tell you what—I’ll give you some slack. You can go ahead and make the first move.

"Punch me right here," He pointed at his stomach. "I am a Supernal of the Ismenian Dragon— a Divine Beast known for its resilience and hard scales with a 6.3 rating. Not that high, but it’s still a Divine Beast. If you can even push me back a single step, I’ll concede."

"Are you sure about this?"

"Yes. Why? Are you afraid to be humiliated in front of this many people? Come on. Have you seen the mirror lately? You’re a Lesser Angel. Your very existence is a humiliation. No need to be shy."

"Make use of your defensive imprint, and I will take you up on your offer," Kai said; his voice remained unchanged. Flat, even after the blatant mockeries Matthew threw at him. "I’m sure your divine bloodline has an imprint like that if it’s known to be resilient."

Matthew treated this like nothing.

It was clear from the way he rolled his eyes at Kai’s demands.

"Fine," He finally said. "I’m kind enough to give you a fighting chance, but no matter."

Pale grey mana charged into his arm.

Slowly, scales with the same color began to coat his entire arm.

It was as if he was turning into a lizard.

And then, with one powerful motion, he slammed his fist into the ground with a resounding crash. His pale grey scales unraveled, peeling from his right arm and forming a spherical shield that was attached to the back of his wrist.

"There," Matthew said, and hid his body behind the shield. "Come at me, Lesser Angel."

Kai chuckled at the situation.

He knew that as a Lesser Angel, discrimination against him would be endless.

But he didn’t understand why people like Matthew aren’t worried about him at all.

"I’m confused." Kai widened his stance deliberately, sliding one foot back as his weight settled. "You heard the stories that a Lesser Angel survived the Blood Rite and the academy life, yet you assumed I was weak." His voice hardened. "Why? What made you believe everyone else was frail instead of believing that I might simply be unexpectedly strong?"

Many people being weak is far less likely than one person being stronger than expected.

That is the logical assumption that one would take if they heard a Lesser Angel survived.

Rather than questioning their assumptions, Matthew and most of the Ourania students simply concluded that dozens of people were abnormally weak. The title Lesser Angel had clearly led them to underestimate him.

But that didn’t make their reasoning any less illogical.

"You ask why? Because no matter how strong you are, a Lesser Angel is at a disadvantage no matter what," Matthew answered as if it should be obvious. "The academy wanted you dead. For the students here to fail in getting rid of you meant they’re all weak."

"I see. I appreciate the answer," Kai nodded. "Please brace yourself."

"Stop dragging this and strike me. I’m eager to give you a beatdown."

"Same here..."

Kai exhaled through his mouth, emptying the air inside his lungs.

Once they were empty, he inhaled sharply and dashed, coming fast to punch the shield.

’Is he mocking me...?’ Matthew stared from behind his shield with a frown as Kai showed no sign of gathering mana. He has no intention of using a Legacy Skill or Imprint. Just a raw punch. ’A Lesser Angel, mocking an Angel? Fine. I’ll make you pay fo—"

BAM—!

As soon as the raw fist meets the shield, the sound of a thunderclap echoes.

A single, concussive boom that swallowed the air.

Scales shattered. The shield cratered inward—then broke. Kai’s knuckles drilled through the shield and buried themselves in Matthew’s stomach. No mana was infused into his fist, and there is mana infused in Matthew’s shield.

In hindsight, the shield should be steel, and the fist should be a fragile tree branch.

But when the impact happened, it was the fist that broke the shield.

Matthew’s body bent. His spine curled, forcing his posture to hunch. His stomach sank deep; organs crowded against his backbone. His eyes stretched wide, white and wet with shock as blood burst from his mouth in hot mist, and he folded.

"Huarghk!"

It happened so fast.

And when Matthew snapped back to reality, he was already looking at the ground while his body folded onto Kai’s strong arm. ’What happened?’ He thought inside, pupils shaking from the pain stabbing his stomach. ’Where is my shield? Did... Did it shatter?’

Around the arena, the students from the Ourania Academy made a collective gasp.

Most of them were certain that the punch would do nothing.

In fact, Kai’s fist would probably fold and break under the hardness of the scaled shield.

Some gave Kai some credit and thought the punch would dent the shield, but has no chance of pushing Matthew back. But to their surprise, Kai’s punch not only broke the shield, but it also almost won him the spar.

Matthew wasn’t pushed back, but the damage was devastating.

A different kind of reaction swept across the students from the Eventide Academy.

Despite Kai being a Lesser Angel, most of them couldn’t deny that seeing Kai fold another student from the Ourania Academy was very satisfying. These foreign students came like they owned the place and looked down on everyone.

So, seeing one of them packed up by Kai was extremely satisfying.

Kai pulled back his arm and leaped away.

He landed across the arena, straightened his posture, and watched as Matthew fell forward like a falling tree and prostrated on the ground. Saliva mixed with blood drizzled down from his mouth in lumps and strings.

And from how he was gasping for air, it seemed the punch had wracked his internal organs.

’Did I lose...?’ Matthew questioned inside.

Even though his body was straining against the excruciating pain, his mind was still lost.

Still couldn’t believe what had happened.

’Lose? Me? Against a Lesser Angel? No... This can’t be. Something is wrong. He’s too strong!’

"Seems like I can’t push you back," Kai said with the same flat tone. "Get up. Let’s continue."

Almost instantly, Matthew raised his gaze and held up a hand, "Wait! I concede! I concede!"

Silence swept across the entire area.

Every single student from the Ourania Academy was stunned when they heard the words of surrender coming out of Matthew’s mouth. He might not be the strongest among them, but he was also not the weakest.

And since Kai dispatched Matthew easily, it could only mean he’s far stronger.

For the entirety of the sparring session, the silence persisted for the Ourania students.

None of them acted or spoke rashly anymore.

It was the Eventide students’ turn to make a mockery of them, cursing them for acting high and mighty when they couldn’t back it up. Even the strongest of them remained silent. Not confident that they could take on Kai.

Despite their differences, the Eventide students were on Kai’s back.

Even for a moment.

Kai even saw Chester give an approving look for beating Matthew as easily as possible.

He would’ve done it himself, but it would be even more humiliating if Kai did it.

And this shift was carried to the sparring.

Most of the Ourania students were defeated by the Eventide students—their confidence was completely shattered by Kai; thus, most of them took up a defensive fighting style, which made them lose the matches.

For humiliating a Lesser Angel, the entire academy was now being humiliated in kind.
