Chapter 408: Chapter 295: A Remnant Soul Awakens
They took out their phones, and their expressions changed in unison.
The message was from Gu Chengguang: "Peninsula Country is now history!"
The five people in the conference room exchanged glances. Ning Yushen typed back, "What happened? Hasn’t the beast tide retreated?"
Gu Chengguang: "They didn’t last until the beast tide retreated. Peninsula Country was attacked by a Tier 5 beast, and their Saint Envoy refused to help unless the high command agreed to relocate the entire nation to Lin Hua Country.
"Only after two of their cities fell in quick succession did Peninsula Country’s leaders finally relent, leading their people on a great migration."
Ning Yushen sneered. "A great migration? You think they’re really taking the ’entire nation’?"
They all knew that Peninsula Country was extremely far from Lin Hua Country. One was at the northernmost tip of the Lin Hua Continent, and the other was at the southernmost.
It wasn’t called a "great migration" for nothing.
And it was precisely this vast distance that prevented Mr. Ke’s "Blue Star Party" from sending aid in time when Peninsula Country was attacked by the beast tide.
With such a vast distance to cover, it was impossible to truly move an entire nation. Some people were bound to be left behind, culled from the herd...
Not everyone was willing to leave the homes they had known their entire lives, either. Especially those who had already lost everything they held dear in the beast tide’s assault, including the will to live.
In any case, even if Peninsula Country’s population wasn’t considered large, it was still in the tens of millions. That included the elderly, children, and the sick and wounded with limited mobility...
Not everyone in this world was an evolver. Most were still Mortal-level Life forms who had only absorbed one or two vials of extract—not even enough to complete a single evolution.
Compared to ordinary people before the Era of Evolution, they were no different, aside from possessing one or two skills that weren’t necessarily useful.
A migration of tens of millions, forced to depart in a hurry... logistics like food, water, shelter, and transportation were all massive problems.
It was bound to be anything but smooth sailing...
However, the five of them didn’t dwell on the topic. They didn’t have the luxury of worrying about another country’s affairs.
They were more concerned with the message Lin Hua Country was sending through this action.
Gu Chengguang sent another message to the group: "Su Ze, tell them."
The message was cryptic, but Su Ze understood instantly. Gu Chengguang was telling him to inform Ning Yushen and Li Fayi about the alien invasion.
Mrs. Yun and Mr. Ya had already learned much of this from Su Ze; only Ning Yushen and Li Fayi were still in the dark.
Previously, when Gu Chengguang and Zhou Wenshan learned that the matter involved the sovereign of the Lin Hua Continent, they had been extremely tight-lipped. They hadn’t told anyone else because they felt Dongli lacked the power to get involved in affairs of that magnitude.
But now, as the situation developed, Gu Chengguang finally realized that Dongli couldn’t remain uninvolved. They had to prepare for the series of changes that were sure to follow.
Lin Hua Country had already forced Peninsula Country to migrate. ’Will they use the same methods on Dongli next?’
Su Ze took a deep breath and agreed. While the Dongli Saint Envoy was away, he gave them a brief rundown of the Nian Race’s invasion and how they had possessed many of Lin Hua Country’s top leaders.
Li Fayi and Ning Yushen were stunned into silence.
Li Fayi sputtered "Holy shit" about eighteen times in a row, unable to process what he’d heard for the longest time.
After his initial shock, Ning Yushen looked around. Seeing the calm expressions on Mrs. Yun and Mr. Ya’s faces, he realized. "You two already knew?"
Mrs. Yun shrugged. "What’s the difference between finding out sooner or later? Knowing earlier just means you start worrying earlier. We still can’t do anything about it."
"We’ll hold a meeting when you get back." After sending that message, Gu Chengguang went silent. Some things weren’t meant for a messaging app.
Ning Yushen and Li Fayi huddled around Mrs. Yun, discussing in hushed tones. Su Ze’s explanation had been brief, and they wanted to get more details from her.
As for Su Ze, he desperately wanted to talk to Chen Suifeng. He needed to know what was truly behind Peninsula Country’s great migration.
But this wasn’t something to discuss over the phone... ’I really need the mind of a Spiritual Venerable Powerhouse,’ he thought.
...
With the beast tide gone, there was no reason for Su Ze and the others to remain in Lihai City, so they all returned to Dongping City the same day.
However, Zhou Wenshan was still at Fengshui Pass and hadn’t returned yet. Ning Yushen also had to handle post-war cleanup and wouldn’t be able to get to Dongping for a few days.
Therefore, Gu Chengguang scheduled the meeting for all of Dongli’s Guardian Gods for three days later.
The first thing Su Ze did after returning was to study the "gold mine" in his Storage Ring.
He picked out a fingertip-sized shard of the golden rock and squeezed it hard, but it didn’t budge. The material was incredibly tough.
Next, he tried using his Spiritual Power to draw out the golden energy within and absorb it into his body. The process was surprisingly smooth.
He absorbed the golden energy quickly. As he did, some of the Evolutionary Material that had built up in his body from the Purple Bloodline Crystal was immediately processed.
’Sure enough, it works just like the golden energy I extract from killing monsters...’
’And these golden ores contain much more of it, making absorption far more efficient.’
Once all the golden energy was absorbed, the "golden ore" immediately lost its color, taking on the appearance of a common stone.
With a little pressure, Su Ze crushed it into dust.
’This golden energy seems to have the ability to accelerate time. And the ore that contains it isn’t a real gold mine, after all. I’ll call it... the "Sands of Time"!’
He hesitated for a moment but ultimately decided against immediately absorbing the remaining Sands of Time.
