Chapter 354: Chapter 280: Skill Upgrade Summary, the Shovel Assassin Strikes

Compared to the Myriad Beast Mountain Range, the exotic beasts in the Desolate Desert were far less numerous and dangerous.

The vast desert, a deathly silent sea of sand, was majestic and solemn, like a serious person with a stern face. The only color in sight was yellow. Layer upon layer of yellow sand stretched out, as if nature had instantly frozen surging waves and roiling tides, fixing them in eternal stillness.

This was Su Ze’s first time visiting the famous Desolate Desert, though he was only on its periphery.

The competition was set to take place where the Desolate Desert met Lin Hua Country, a relatively safe area with few exotic beasts.

Not that there would be any real danger, though. After all...

Su Ze glanced up at three figures conversing quietly nearby. They were the three Legendary Powerhouses from the three major continents.

The one representing Lin Hua Country was none other than its future sovereign, Deng Sui.

He appeared to be about thirty years old, though his actual age was surely much greater. His features were refined and gentle, making him seem instantly approachable.

Su Ze knew nothing about the two Legendary Powerhouses from the Snowfield Continent and the Flame Emperor Continent.

’I wonder if this legendary Deng Sui has been possessed by an alien,’ Su Ze mused. ’Or maybe... all three of them have been taken over!’

Nowadays, he found any Legendary Powerhouse suspicious.

Not many people were in attendance today, but most were influential figures. Not only were there three Legendary Powerhouses, but many Venerable Powerhouses and Saint-level Overlords had also come to spectate.

The television crews had long since finished their preparations for the live broadcast and were just waiting for the tournament to begin.

Across the entire Lin Hua Continent, including its six nations, households everywhere had their televisions on, eagerly awaiting the upcoming matches.

In the middle of the desert, a vast arena had been marked out with flags, large enough for two Overlords to fight without restraint.

The order of the four first-round matches was determined by lots.

Su Ze had drawn number 3, meaning he would compete in the third match.

The first match was an internal affair between Mr. Ya and Huang Peng.

Huang Peng was a renowned genius from the Lin Hua Country government. Mr. Ya, on the other hand, had only made a brief appearance when he became Dongli’s Guardian God. The public knew little of his actual strength, as he had almost never been seen in action.

The few who were well-informed only knew that Mr. Ya excelled at escaping. However, in a match with a limited arena, merely being good at running away wouldn’t be enough to secure a win.

Mr. Ya and Huang Peng entered the arena, one after the other, and took their positions, waiting for the match to begin.

The match was hosted by Chen Suifeng, with the three Legendary Powerhouses serving as the judges.

At Chen Suifeng’s signal, the first match officially began.

Huang Peng struck first, giving it his all from the very beginning. He produced his Tier-4 Strange Item: a small, finger-length Bone Blade.

SWOOSH!

The Bone Blade shot out, locking onto Mr. Ya and streaking toward him.

It was a throwing knife that could lock onto a target and wouldn’t stop until it had drawn blood.

The Bone Blade was fast, but Mr. Ya was faster. He flew some distance, and the blade couldn’t catch him at all.

’What is this speed?’

Huang Peng was stunned.

Mr. Ya abruptly dove into the ground, burrowing beneath the surface. The Bone Blade was relentless, chasing him into the earth.

The next moment, Mr. Ya burst from the ground, appearing behind Huang Peng.

Huang Peng was on high alert. A layer of Golden Light Protection enveloped his body as he twisted at an impossible angle, smashing a fist behind him. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

However, Mr. Ya only made light contact, tapping Huang Peng’s arm before rapidly retreating.

Huang Peng noticed that Mr. Ya was wearing an animal-hide glove.

’That’s a Tier-4 Strange Item!’

After Mr. Ya backed away, Huang Peng saw a small, round object on his own arm.

BOOM!

An explosion erupted, and Huang Peng was engulfed in a sea of flames.

Mr. Ya examined the glove on his hand with satisfaction. It was a reward he had received from the Divine Dice: the Tier-4 Strange Item, Explosive Gloves. Wearing them allowed him to plant a bomb on anything he touched.

’First time using it. The power seems pretty good. Very handy.’

However, Mr. Ya noticed the Bone Blade was still tracking him, which meant Huang Peng likely hadn’t been defeated and could still fight.

Sure enough, as the flames dissipated, Huang Peng’s figure was revealed, still standing firm. He had activated his Golden Light Protection before the explosion, so he only looked a bit battered and had sustained nothing more than minor injuries.

Huang Peng cast aside his underestimation of his opponent. With a long roar, two new heads sprouted from the left and right sides of his own, giving him a total of three. Six eyes locked onto Mr. Ya, and each head seemed to serve a different purpose.

"Freeze!"

One of the heads roared. While it didn’t manage to immobilize Mr. Ya, his speed visibly decreased.

Then, Huang Peng shot forward, pouncing on Mr. Ya like a tiger sighting its prey.

Mr. Ya wasn’t the least bit flustered. ’So it’s close combat, is it? Bring it on!’

He pulled his weapon from his storage item—a shovel!

"Today, the Shovel Assassin will make his name known to the world!"
