Chapter 58: Chapter 58 - Cat’s Changes

Over the next few days Daniel had spent at least four hours training with Cat.

Meanwhile Erick and I had spent the same time training our new recruits.

Daniel’s little speech had actually managed to get us almost ten new recruits, and their combat prowess actually wasn’t all that bad.

After a few days they had even managed to almost reach the level of Erick’s original followers.

Which meant that they were upgraded from training under Erick to training under me, along with Erick and his followers.

Which I enjoyed quite a bit.

Cat had always been the one that enjoyed training people.

She enjoyed seeing the progress people made under her, whereas I had absolutely no interest in that.

But those days of training the mercenaries were actually quite enjoyable for me.

On the other side, Daniel’s improvements still came in leaps and bounds.

He had now been able to effortlessly fight using both magic and physical combat, even keeping up with Cat.

However I could see that there was something missing for him.

And it had nothing to do with combat training.

The man hadn’t had any chance to build on his businesses.

He hadn’t had any new systems that he could analyze and improve on.

His days were filled with combat training, and yet they were empty.

At night he would tell me all about the new plans he had come up with, and what suggestions he could make when we got back to the village again.

So at that time I knew that it was time for us to head back.

My little faith building exercise had borne fruit after all.

After a few days of sparring in the training arena each day, we had started to draw quite a crowd of spectators.

Most of which spent the entire time watching Daniel’s sparring matches with Cat.

Commenting about his battle prowess.

At first it had bothered me a lot that most of these spectators were women, and that cheered quite loudly for my husband.

However, the fact that he would immediately walk over to me and kiss me after each training session, in front of all of those cheering women, calmed me down significantly.

They were allowed to look after all, but only I was allowed to touch.

One thing I started to notice as the days passed was that Cat seemed to get more and more comfortable around Daniel.

It didn’t seem to bother her as much that we were husband and wife.

Or when he would hold my hand.

Or when he would kiss me.

Actually it had started to look like she was even a bit... envious at times.

I had decided that maybe I had just imagined it.

Or maybe she was jealous that Daniel and I were close, and that it would mean I wouldn’t have any more time for her.

Like I said, she had always been slightly possessive when it came to me.

We were sitting in the diner at the Forest Flute on that day, having just had lunch together.

Daniel and I were sitting next to each other, with Cat sitting across from us.

"The entire reason we actually came here was so that I could ask you if you would consider moving to Lofie Village." Daniel said to her.

"Move to Lofie Village?"

"I purchased land there, and built a bathhouse," Daniel said. "But the soaps they have in that village are atrocious."

"I was wondering if you would consider moving your business there, and selling your soaps to me." Daniel finished.

"Sure." Cath responded, quite fast actually.

Almost like she had been excited, which stunned both me and Daniel.

We had expected that I would have to convince her by telling her that she would be closer to me, and that she could continue training Daniel everyday.

But it seemed that our hours of preparations, and planning how we would need to convince her were wasted.

"Are you sure?" Daniel asked. "I mean I don’t think you would be able to make nearly the same kind of money there that you do here."

"That’s fine."

Daniel and I met eyes for a few moments, shock clear in our eyes.

This seemed almost... too easy.

"I’ll be able to live closer to Julia after all." Cat said, looking between the two of us with an expressionless face.

"... Right," Daniel said. "I’m planning to build a house for us, you’re welcome to come and live with us, it would cut down on your expenses after all."

"That..."

"I..."

Cat tried to find words, stammering though some sentences, as a blush started to creep up on her face.

"That won’t be necessary, I like living in my store." She finally got out.

Her entire demeanor was pretty confusing to me.

She seemed excited to move with us to Lofie Village so she could live closer to me, but she didn’t want to move into the same house as me?

It confused me quite a bit.

And then there was her blush, and how she couldn’t seem to meet our eyes.

Both of which were completely out of character for her.

"That’s fine, I’ll have the contractors who built the bathhouse build you a store next to the bathhouse, we’ll have them add an apartment at the back." Daniel said, seemingly oblivious to Cat’s change.

"When do you want to leave?" Cat asked.

"As soon as possible." Daniel answered. "I’ve been away from the businesses for too long already."

"If you give me a day, I should be able to get everything packed up." Cat said.

"Great! When you’re done packing everything, we can store all of your inventory in my storage, so you don’t have to leave anything behind." Daniel said.

"Thank you."

Another new development.

Cat had never been one to accept anyone doing something for her.

Much less simply accept it, and thank them for it.

When I thought about all of these changes, and when they happened, a smile started to tug at my lips.

There might’ve been some interesting developments coming over the horizon.

And if it was Cat, I would never mind these developments.

She was like my sister after all.

If she wasn’t worthy, no one would be.
