Chapter 67: 67: Tough love.

Besides...

A bus?

His gaze drifted toward the distant road.

Wouldn’t hiring a private bus every day cost even more money?

Surely that would be far more expensive than the apartment rent.

Just as he was about to voice his concern, Benny continued speaking.

"And it’s not just you."

He swept his arm across the empty fields.

"I want the workers you hire to have the option of going home every day too."

Wang Jun blinked.

Benny nodded as though this was the most natural thing in the world.

"That’s why it’s a bus, if they want to stay, they can stay and If they want to go home after work, they can go home."

Then he added the final sentence.

"All transportation expenses will be covered by the company."

Wang Jun stared at him.

For a moment, he genuinely didn’t know what to say.

Back in the village, people carefully calculated every cent they spent.

A few yuan saved on transportation was still money saved.

Yet Benny was casually talking about renting a private bus so workers could travel three hours back and forth every day.

The contrast was so great that Wang Jun’s brain struggled to keep up.

Meanwhile, Benny felt increasingly pleased with himself.

Look at that, transportation costs and vehicle rental costs, two trips everyday was bound to give him a lot of expenses!

Plus there was the fuel costs!

The more he thought about it, the better the plan sounded.

A proper farming project should naturally come with proper expenses.

Otherwise, how was it supposed to lose money?

Meanwhile, Wang Jun was becoming increasingly nervous.

This...

Wasn’t all of this a bit excessive?

Then Benny delivered the final blow.

"Oh, and the most important thing."

"What is it?"

"When hiring workers, make sure everyone receives at least four thousand yuan a month."

Wang Jun’s eyes widened.

"Four thousand?"

"That’s right."

Benny nodded firmly.

"At least four thousand."

Wang Jun’s eyes widened.

"Four thousand?"

"That’s right."

Benny nodded firmly.

"At least four thousand."

He pointed toward the vast open fields surrounding them.

"They’re going to be working under the sun all day. Planting, watering, carrying things around and doing all sorts of physical work. If people are willing to work that hard, they deserve to be paid properly."

Then he added confidently,

"And if they’re paid well, they’ll naturally work harder. Isn’t that a good thing?"

Lucy and the others exchanged glances, the logic sounded perfectly reasonable.

Only Benny knew that he wasn’t actually counting on anyone working harder.

His real focus was somewhere else entirely, expenses, legal expenditures.

The more money that left the company’s account before settlement day, the happier he would be.

After all, money sitting in the company account wasn’t helping anyone.

It needed to be spent, as much of it as possible.

Then Benny pointed at Wang Jun.

"As for you, your salary will be ten thousand yuan per month."

The words left his mouth naturally.

At the same time, Benny quietly waited for a system notification complaining about the numbers.

His eyes immediately brightened when he realised the system left him alone.

That meant the salary was considered reasonable.

Thinking about it, that made sense.

Wang Jun would be managing the entire project.

He would be recruiting workers, arranging transportation, overseeing the fields, handling day-to-day operations and probably dealing with a hundred other problems Benny hadn’t even thought about.

Ten thousand yuan suddenly sounded very justified.

Meanwhile, Wang Jun had completely stopped listening.

His mind had gone blank.

Ten thousand yuan per month.

The number echoed repeatedly inside his head.

Ten thousand yuan per month.

His parents worked the fields from sunrise until sunset.

Even then, the harvest barely lasted half the year.

The rest of the family’s income came from temporary labor jobs.

Yet now...

Just this salary alone would exceed what his family normally earned.

His throat tightened slightly.

"Brother Benny..."

He didn’t know what to say.

"This is too much."

Benny immediately waved his hand.

"It’s not too much."

To Benny, this was merely another investment expense.

To Wang Jun, however, it felt completely different.

With ten thousand yuan a month, his parents wouldn’t need to work themselves to exhaustion anymore.

His family wouldn’t need to worry about money constantly.

And most importantly...

His little sister, Wang Xiaoyu, could continue her studies without having to worry about the cost.

For a moment, Wang Jun lowered his head.

Then he clenched his fists.

A look of determination slowly appeared in his eyes.

"Brother Benny."

"Hm?"

"I’ll do my best."

Benny smiled brightly.

"Good."

That was exactly what he wanted to hear.

After all, if everyone worked hard enough...

This farm should lose money even faster.

After all, they’re working on a not so easy to sell product.

It didn’t really matter if they worked super hard, as long as they didn’t sell, that was a huge loss.

Then a new thought suddenly appeared in his mind.

A truly wonderful thought.

He immediately turned toward Lucy.

"Lucy."

"Yes, Boss?"

"Allocate one million yuan to Brother Wang Jun here."

Benny pointed directly at him.

"I believe he’ll need that much to complete the task I’m assigning him."

The moment those words entered his ears, Wang Jun froze.

One million yuan.

His brain immediately rejected the number.

Surely he had misheard.

For a brief moment, he stood completely motionless.

Then countless thoughts exploded inside his head.

One million yuan.

His family’s house wasn’t worth that much.

His parents would probably never see that much money in their entire lives.

The amount was so large that it stopped feeling real.

Just then, he heard Benny add,

"Brother Jun, I need you to spend all one million yuan within two months."

Wang Jun froze in place.

Spend it all?

Within two months?

His eyes widened further.

One million yuan was already an astronomical figure in his mind.

Now Benny was telling him to spend all of it?

In two months?

His breathing immediately became uneven.

"Brother... Benny..."

Wang Jun’s lips trembled and his vision blurred.

The world began spinning and then his knees gave way with a low thud.

Wang Jun then collapsed onto the ground and the world went dark.

His final thought before losing consciousness was simple.

Spend one million yuan in two months?

Brother Benny you’re trying to kill me.
