Chapter 437: Directed By Lena Crawford (2)

....

The trailer opened with a jarring lack of magic.

The scorching, oppressive heat of a Muggle summer baked the asphalt of Little Whinging.

The color palette was deliberately bleached, dry, and suffocating. Through the native 3D depth, an empty playground felt unnervingly vast, isolating a solitary Harry on a creaking swing.

Then, the ambient summer hum suddenly died and temperature plummeted.

Frost began to rapidly spider-web across the edges of the screen, the 3D effect making the ice appear to crystallize directly on the viewers’ own glasses.

In a pitch-black underpass, the shadows warped.

The Dementors descended, not with the smooth drift of floating creatures, but with a terrifying, ragged inevitability.

The stereoscopic depth trapped Harry and Dudley inside a claustrophobic, shrinking tunnel as skeletal hands stretched forward, appearing to reach clean beyond the screen itself.

"Expecto Patronum!"

A blinding torrent of silver light exploded outward, driving the darkness back.

The screen cut to black.

THWACK.

The heavy, authoritative slam of a wooden gavel echoed in a vast, subterranean chamber.

The Ministry of Magic courtroom materialized.

Towering, dark tiled walls stretched endlessly upward.

Cornelius Fudge looked down from a high, imposing podium, and the forced perspective made Harry appear incredibly small, fragile, and entirely alone in the center of the room.

"You have been brought before this disciplinary hearing to answer for your crimes." Fudge’s voice boomed.

"I was defending myself!" Harry’s voice rang out, cracking with genuine adolescent anger and isolation. "Lord Voldemort is back!"

A chorus of overlapping, mocking whispers filled the surround-sound speakers, mirroring the public consensus driven by the Daily Prophet: He’s lying. Attention-seeking. He’s unhinged.

The montage accelerated, shifting to Hogwarts.

But it wasn’t the warm, golden sanctuary of previous years; the lighting was harsh, institutional, and cold.

Clack. Clack. Clack.

The sound of sharp heels struck stone.

Dolores Umbridge stepped into the frame, dressed in a sickly, heavily textured pink cardigan that contrasted violently with the muted grays of the castle.

She smiled – a wide, toad-like grin that sent an instant chill through the room.

"Things at Hogwarts." Umbridge purred, her voice coated in poison and sugar. "Are going to change."

Quick, rhythmic cuts followed, perfectly timed to the escalating percussion of the score.

Educational Decrees slammed onto the stone walls, stacking higher and higher, the 3D making the wooden frames jut out aggressively.

Argus Filch locked the massive wooden doors. Students sat in rigid, terrified silence.

Then, Hermione’s voice cut through the oppression, it was sharp, determined, and unwavering.

"We need a teacher. A proper teacher. One who’s had real experience defending themselves against the Dark Arts."

A quick cut to Harry looking at the crowd of students, before her voice carries over the montage:

"Because if we don’t learn how to protect ourselves, no one else is going to do it for us."

The Room of Requirement materialized, and warmth flooded back into the color grade.

Harry paced before the gathered members of Dumbledore’s Army as spells flashed through the dimly lit room, their glowing trails hanging in the air with striking depth, and when Ron shouted, "Stupefy!" and launched a Stunning Spell, it rebounded spectacularly, drawing laughter and instantly breaking the tension.

The music suddenly swelled into a frantic, driving tempo, and the trailer shifted from psychological oppression to absolute, unbridled chaos.

The Department of Mysteries filled the screen with towering shelves of glowing blue prophecies that seemed to stretch endlessly into the distance, creating a dizzying sense of scale as the vast maze of glass and whispers surrounded the characters, while Death Eaters emerged from swirling black smoke with a fluid, unsettling grace.

Lucius Malfoy raised his cane, his silver mask gleaming. "Give me the prophecy, Potter."

A curse streaked through the chamber, and the moment it struck, the glass shelves erupted into chaos as thousands of glowing blue orbs shattered at once, sending countless shards and streams of white mist cascading through the air in magnificent slow motion, with the native 3D capturing every fragment and swirling wisp in breathtaking detail.

Harry and Sirius fought side by side, a brief, beautiful moment of family amidst the dark.

And then, the climax of the trailer.

The Atrium of the Ministry of Magic.

Voldemort, pale and serpentine, stepped forward, his eyes burning with absolute malice as he raised his wand.

A blinding torrent of green death erupted from the tip, and the flashing light of the Killing Curse hurtling directly toward Harry.

The camera rushed in on Harry’s face, the sickly green glare reflecting vividly in his wide, terrified eyes.

A deafening, thunderous crack of apparition violently ruptured the air.

A tall figure stepped directly into the line of fire, his sweeping silver robes snapping against the shockwave.

The green light struck a golden shield that materialized out of thin air, a colossal shower of sparks obliterating the frame in a blinding flash.

The music violently cut out, plunging the room into pitch-black silence.

Through the absolute darkness, Dumbledore’s voice echoed in a calm, impossibly deep, and vibrating with an ancient, terrifying power that shook the floorboards of the editing bay:

"It was foolish of you to come here tonight, Tom."

The title card slammed onto the screen, the crisp white letters floating in deep, stereoscopic space.

[HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX]

[Directed by Lena Crawford]

The screen cut to black.

....

The editing bay remained entirely silent for a full ten seconds.

Mae had buried her face deep into Lena’s shoulder, her small fingers clutching her mother’s shirt as if she had just witnessed real, untamed sorcery.

Rupert was staring at the blank screen with his mouth slightly open, completely frozen, Daniel swallowed hard, exchanging a wide-eyed, breathless glance with Lily.

The lingering, playful competition between them had completely vanished, replaced by sheer awe.

Rupert whispered, entirely forgetting for a moment that a five-year-old was in the room. "That was... bloody mental."

"Language, Rupert!" Lily scolded softly, though her own voice was trembling with excitement.

She reached out, unconsciously gripping Daniel’s forearm. "But... oh my god, he’s right for once. I forgot to breathe during the courtroom scene."

"...and you were also brilliant, Dan." Lily murmured, nudging his shoulder with a warm, genuine smile that lacked any of her usual teasing bite.

Gwendolyn let out a long, shaky breath, lowering her 3D glasses.

She looked over at Lena, her eyes shining with absolute awe. "Lena... it was exactly the way I imagined Regal would have made this film. It has his soul, but it’s entirely yours."

Lena felt a massive knot in her chest finally untangle.

The highest compliment anyone could ever give her had just been spoken.

The sheer, crushing weight of the multi-billion-dollar franchise, the ugly internet whispers of television-director nepotism, and the suffocating doubts from the studio executives, it all evaporated in the span of two and a half minutes.

"Is the green bad man gone?" a small, muffled voice asked from Lena’s shoulder.

Mae peeked out, her big eyes blinking in the dim light of the bay. Rupert instantly leaned over, pulling a goofy, exaggerated monster face. "All gone, Mae-Mae! Dumbledore gave him a proper soaking!"

Mae let out a bright, giggling squeak, the tension in the room instantly melting into heartwarming laughter.

Lena smoothed her daughter’s hair, her heart swelling as she turned to Regal. He was the only one who hadn’t spoken yet.

Regal slowly took off his 3D glasses, setting them neatly on the console. He looked at the frozen title card, then turned his gaze to Lena.

"I told Ross that he didn’t need to be a grandfather." Regal said quietly, his voice carrying the immense weight of his cinematic authority. "...but a general. And you captured that perfectly." He smiled. "It’s a brilliantly made film, Lena. The world is going to owe you an apology tomorrow."

Lena closed her eyes, resting her chin on top of Mae’s head, fighting back the sudden prickle of tears.

"Can we drop it as soon as possible?" she whispered.

Regal nodded, though a faint, strategic smirk played on his lips. "We will. But we have to play the timeline right. There are just too many of our pieces moving on the board right now."

He was right. The marketing rollout was tightly packed.

In just two days, Stephen’s indie drama [What Remains] was hitting theaters for its prestige run.

On top of that, the Kung Fu Panda teaser had dropped just two weeks ago, and the internet was still collectively losing its mind over the watermelon fake-out.

"We need to let Stephen have his moment, and let Pixy Studios keep crying over the panda for a bit longer." Regal concluded, leaning back. "So we hold this masterpiece back for at least fourteen more days. Let the anticipation build."

"Fourteen days?" Rupert groaned playfully, slouching into his seat. "I don’t know if my nerves can survive two weeks of Dan practicing his tragic brooding face in the mirror."

"I do not!" Daniel protested, laughing as Lily neatly elbowed him in the ribs, the warmth and camaraderie of the room sealing the quiet triumph of the night.
