Chapter 817: Chapter 708: Iron Armor Spell, the Lost Sirius
The letter wasn’t particularly long, except for greetings, the part genuinely concerning charms was less than two sheets of parchment, but the content was obscure and difficult to understand, even with the reference diagram given by Dumbledore, Kael had to meticulously ponder over it repeatedly.
At the same time, he also took out his wand, experimenting with various combinations of magic text.
Stars of magic text floated out from the wand, converging to form a new talisman. Faintly, it seemed as if there was an additional layer of transparent net around Kael, which soon shattered and disappeared.
"No, it’s not this..." Kael frowned, quickly flipping through the translation chart.
He was so focused that Kael didn’t even notice the sky outside had already brightened.
Unconsciously, Kael had been seated at the table for an entire night.
Until noon the next day...
Fred, returned from Diagon Alley for lunch, looked at the empty chair in front of him and couldn’t help but ask, "By the way, how long has Kael been in the room?"
"Almost the entire day," Harry said. "Last night the light in his room was always on, and he didn’t come out for breakfast this morning either."
"What exactly is he doing?" George asked.
"No idea," Ron said. "We wanted to call him this morning, but Mom and Sirius wouldn’t let us."
"That’s what Dumbledore instructed before he left." At this time, Mrs. Weasley placed a plate of toast on the table, "If it’s not something important, don’t disturb Kael."
"I know, and you’ve said it many times," Ron mumbled quietly.
"Just remember." Mrs. Weasley gave Ron a stern look, then glanced worriedly towards the staircase outside.
Clearly, she was a bit concerned about Kael not eating all day as well.
"But it’s not even been a whole day yet, it should be fine," Mrs. Weasley thought, due to Dumbledore’s instructions, she could only wait for Kael to come out.
Another afternoon passed by waiting.
It wasn’t until seven-thirty when everyone was preparing dinner that Kael wobbled down from upstairs.
Diana mentioned yesterday that the content on the parchment would only exist for one day.
This timing was really accurate.
Just now, the content on the parchment disappeared in an instant. Along with it, the memory of those ancient runes in his mind vanished too.
But there was also good news.
Although the process disappeared, the result was retained.
This feeling was like a test, he couldn’t remember the content of the paper, nor what he wrote, but the final grade was truly there... and it was quite a good grade.
However, suddenly relaxing after a day without eating, Kael only felt dizzy and his vision blurred, everything he saw was swaying.
When Kael finally managed to get downstairs to the dining room, Mrs. Weasley had just placed a freshly baked pie on the table.
Kael didn’t care about hot hands or manners, he grabbed a pie and stuffed it into his mouth.
"You finally came out." Mrs. Weasley breathed a sigh of relief, serving Kael a bowl of soup, "Take your time, no rush, I’ve made plenty."
...
Kael ate a total of three pies and drank two bowls of soup, only then did he feel slightly better, but merely less hungry.
It’s undeniable that researching ancient runes is physically draining work; he felt not like he’d missed meals for one day, but for three days.
"Kael, what exactly were you doing in the room?" Ron couldn’t help but ask.
"Studying Merlin’s letter," Kael said casually.
With the disappearance of the content on the parchment, the previously strange restrictions were gone too, like now he could naturally say what he was doing, and wouldn’t be stuck like last night unable to speak out.
"Merlin’s letter?" Hermione’s voice grew sharp and high, "That’s from 1500 years ago."
"Not the original letter," Kael explained. "It’s magically imprinted."
"Was it last night, that thing your mom gave you..." Hermione immediately recalled the birthday gift Diana gave Kael last night.
She considered many possibilities; advanced charms, ancient records... never thought it would relate to Merlin.
"Can I take a look?" Hermione looked at Kael hopefully, "Just for a moment."
"Sorry, the letter was magically protected, it just disappeared," Kael shrugged, picking up another pie, "Plus the content on it I don’t remember, except it was written in non-simplified ancient runes."
"Ancient Runes, simplified?" Hermione was somewhat puzzled.
She simply couldn’t associate those complex symbols, which made her dizzy with just one glance, with being simplified.
"It’s like this..." Kael casually handed the book given by Dumbledore to Hermione.
Since she opened the first page, Hermione’s brows furrowed instantly.
Harry and Ron curiously craned their necks to peek a glance too, but in the next second, both simultaneously looked away.
The content on that page left them without recognizing a single symbol, looking for too long felt headache-inducing, it’s hard to imagine Kael looked at it all day.
"Wait..." Fred suddenly thought of something, "You just said you forgot the content, wasn’t that an entire day wasted?"
"Of course not." Kael swallowed the last bite of pie and picked up a baked potato, "It’s a teaching letter, presumably written by Merlin for his apprentice, the magic mentioned on it I’ve already learned."
