Chapter 802: Chapter 703: Dementors for Profit and Surrender
Cornwall...
"Expecto Patronum!"
A silver goose flew by, scaring one Dementor into a panic, but before it could fly far, it ran straight into a slender flame.
The flame wasn’t very hot, or perhaps because it was too small, the Dementor didn’t feel anything before it hit.
But by the time it realized, the flame had already wrapped around it like a rope.
In almost the blink of an eye, the Dementor was reduced to ashes.
Kael lifted the Disillusionment Charm and waved his wand, causing the fire on the Dementor to condense into a ball and return to the top of a stick in his hand, where it burned steadily.
"This thing is really something..." Cedric said enviously, looking at the torch in Kael’s hand. "We agreed, next time it’s your turn to drive away the Dementors, and I get to use the Gubraithian Fire."
"No problem." Kael tossed him the torch. "Just be careful not to burn yourself. Even though it’s not as terrifying as the Fiendfyre Curse, it’s still Magic Flames. I don’t want to visit you in St Mungo’s."
"Aren’t you underestimating me a bit?" Cedric said with annoyance, holding the torch. "Even if I’m not as good as you with Charms, I can still use a Fire Control Spell."
Kael shrugged, saying nothing.
Just then, an owl flew over their heads.
Kael pulled out a Sickle and gave it a shake, prompting the owl to fly over and deliver a stack of newspapers from the bag tied to its leg.
"Thanks, just two, please." Kael tossed the Sickle into the bag. "Keep the change."
Besides owls with fixed delivery routes for someone specific, the Daily Prophet has owls like this for these occasions.
These owls carry a bag of newspapers and fly to places with wizards. If a wizard needs a paper, simply holding five Knuts in hand will bring them over.
But currently, Kael didn’t have such small coins, so a Sickle would do too.
"What luck," Cedric remarked in surprise. "We actually ran into a newspaper-delivering owl!"
"What’s so strange about that..." Kael opened the newspaper. "Cornwall is a place with many wizards, running into a newspaper owl is perfectly normal."
"True." Cedric walked over. "Is there any news in the paper?"
"There is, actually..." Kael spread open the newspaper, pointing at a big headline on the front page.
[Ministry of Magic Offers High Reward for Dementors]
"Recently, both wizards and Muggles have been troubled by Dementors. These creatures are seriously affecting everyone’s lives.
"Yesterday, a justice-minded wizard came to the Ministry of Magic to express their idea. They believe that in such special times, all wizards should unite to fight against the Dementor threat.
"Of course, this is a very dangerous task, so they prepared a generous reward for every wizard contributing to peace."
[A reward of 200 Galleons for each Dementor captured alive and delivered to the Ministry of Magic.]
[A reward of 100 Galleons for bringing a black hood from a Dementor.]
[Killing a Dementor with Magic Flames leaves behind black ashes; 2 ounces can be exchanged for 100 Galleons.]
"Note: The Ministry of Magic advises everyone to act within their abilities and with confidence.
"If anyone causes damage to the surroundings, buildings, or people while dealing with Dementors, they will be deducted 20 to 200 Galleons depending on the severity.
"If the Magic Flames go out of control, all rewards will be revoked, with an additional fine of 100 Galleons and a year’s imprisonment in Azkaban."
"The Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge, says we are here to solve problems, not create them, so everyone must act accordingly, and should notify the Ministry of Magic, as the Auror Association will arrive promptly."
...
"A reward for Dementors?" Cedric looked at the newspaper in disbelief. "Who knew those ashes were so valuable, 2 ounces for 100 Galleons, you’re going to get rich!"
He still remembered that Kael’s bottle had quite a bit of ashes. Even if only half remained, it would fetch a handsome amount of Galleons.
"What are you thinking..." Kael looked at Cedric with disdain. "We are employees of the Ministry of Magic, this is our duty, bringing up money is too vulgar."
Cedric stood there dumbfounded, rendered speechless...
"Wait...are you serious?"
Coming from Kael, it was something Cedric couldn’t believe... too fake.
Based on what he knew of Kael, he’d definitely find someone outside of the Ministry, like Lupin or Mrs. Weasley, to exchange those ashes for Galleons.
That was the kind of thing Kael would do.
"Alright then."
Faced with Cedric’s equally disdainful look, Kael helplessly spread his hands, "In fact, the sponsor of this event is Sirius. We can’t very well use the Gubraithian Fire he sent us and then turn around to make money off him. That would be a bit shameless."
"No wonder..." Cedric nodded with understanding. Even Kael thought it was shameless, so it definitely couldn’t be done.
"But will that really be okay?" Cedric frowned. "What if they bring fake items, after all, black cloaks are quite common, and the ashes don’t seem hard to counterfeit."
