Chapter 966: Chapter 291: Two Fake Professors

Ron and Neville stopped Snape.

Indeed, Snape was startled, that kind of shock was very obvious, even the two Gryffindor students could see it, so it was clear to what extent it was apparent.

"Definitely something is off!"

Ron and Neville stared intently at Snape, whose reaction was even more suspicious than they had imagined.

When Ron shouted "Hand over Hermione," Snape visibly froze, his jet-black pupils suddenly contracted, as if someone was pressing a wand against his back.

This was glaringly apparent to the two first-year little wizards.

"Hand over Hermione!"

Actually, Ron’s mind was blank; not only had he not learned any powerful spells, but he couldn’t even recall any spells he had learned. Nevertheless, it didn’t prevent him from pointing his wand at Snape.

It must be said.

There truly was courage within this boy, especially the courage to stand up for friends—as a child from a wizard family, Ron certainly knew what it meant to brandish a wand at a wizard.

He was very scared.

His legs were shaking.

But he still gritted his teeth.

"Stop your nonsense, both of you!" Snape seemed somewhat flustered, instinctively looking around, as if confirming no one else was in the corridor.

Realizing everyone was in class, no students were tardy, Snape slightly sighed in relief, adjusted his mood, then turned back to the two boys with his ominous eyes.

Of course.

His gaze wasn’t firm, but this time, it was noticeably less evasive than before.

"Why aren’t you two in class?" Snape lowered his voice to question, trying to appear intimidating, though his tone carried a subtle hint of trembling.

Ron clenched his teeth; the knuckles of the hand gripping the wand turned white: "Hand over Hermione! We know your evil plan to brew her into a magic potion!"

Goodness.

No threat from Voldemort.

Ron indeed found new suspicion against Snape. To be honest, Neville had been somewhat doubtful about Ron’s absurd idea of brewing "Hermione into soup."

However.

Seeing Snape’s demeanor now, Neville’s confidence in his own judgment was shaken. He noticed Snape’s expression became unnatural with each mention of Hermione.

Indeed.

Under Ron’s relentless questioning.

Snape’s Adam’s apple visibly moved. His eyes, avoiding like a startled owl, repeatedly tried to fall on the storage cabinet in the corner only to quickly shift away.

"Damn it! Stop your nonsense!"

Snape made a fierce expression.

Very frightening.

Not as frightening as before.

This only caused Neville and Ron to step back a few paces. Snape glared angrily at them, a gaze that made Ron inexplicably familiar yet hard to place why. The eyes, movements, even the tone of speech were somewhat different from usual, could it be... someone’s turned into Snape again?

As soon as this thought surfaced, Ron rejected it himself. He had already been embarrassed due to such speculation yesterday, and having returned to Hogwarts, he had secretly vowed not to make the same mistake again.

"This Snape is odd... but seems fine?"

Neville also felt a sense of familiarity.

But he wasn’t good at thinking.

Of course.

Perhaps the situation before Neville no longer required thinking.

"No matter what, Professor Snape seems to really have brewed Hermione into a potion!" Neville, now raising his trembling wand, exclaimed in horror, his voice higher due to fear.

"Shut up, you stupid pigs." Snape’s face instantly turned pale; he lunged forward and directly covered Neville’s mouth with his long, thin fingers.

"Shut up right away, Longbottom!"

He whispered angrily, his tone frantic, due to an older student passing by. Snape glared at the student, who immediately bolted.

Luckily, nothing untoward was overheard.

That was a Gryffindor student.

If Ron and Neville’s nonsense were overheard, who knows, after the rumor fermentation law, if there might be a rumor the next day about Hermione being turned into jelly by Snape?

"You’re suspicious! You must be feeling guilty!"

Ron’s vigilance soared. Snape’s reaction was too abnormal—he usually only coldly laughed, deducted points, or silenced them with a sarcastic insult.

But now he looked clearly like someone caught in a shady deed.

"Yesterday I went to your office, saw something like hair in your potion! And it was moving! You... haven’t you already brewed more than one little wizard?"

Neville’s voice trembled from fear.

His imagination was quite vivid.

Snape’s face turned even paler than usual. He covered Neville’s mouth so tightly it nearly suffocated him. His fingers trembled slightly yet still stared fixedly at them.

"You know nothing. Return to your class now, or I’ll have Professor McGonagall personally come to talk to you." His voice squeezed out through clenched teeth.

"Professor McGonagall won’t threaten us! Professor McGonagall will only help us save Hermione!" Ron’s words might have hit a nerve in the current Snape.

His expression kept changing.
