Chapter 964: Chapter 290: Little Wizard, Boiled into a Magic Potion?
Morning time.
The air was filled with the scent of dew and grass.
The surface of the Black Lake shimmered faintly.
Inside, some fantastic beasts were active, appearing and disappearing, making it impossible for people to clearly see what they looked like from the lake surface. From the depths of the Forbidden Forest came a few unique bird calls.
Was it a phoenix?
But no one realized this.
"Good morning."
"Good morning to you too... classmate whose name I still can’t remember."
"That’s because you haven’t bothered to remember. You can never remember the names of the male students, but when it comes to female students from other houses, you can recite them all like a treasure trove, right?"
"No, I can’t remember the ugly ones either."
...
Sunlight shone through the windows onto the Hogwarts castle, not only bringing warmth that drove away the cold but also waking those students who had no idea what happened last night.
Little wizards gradually woke up in their respective dormitories.
In the Gryffindor common room, the boys trickled out of their dormitory in groups, some having stayed up all night playing chess, yawning and rubbing their eyes like pandas.
Others appeared impeccably tidy.
Clearly, they had a good night’s sleep.
The boys were smoothing out their wrinkled clothes as they hurried to the Great Hall.
The girls, however, moved a bit more slowly, some having already washed and dressed, pretending to read their textbooks while actually whispering, and others still fretting over what hairstyle to put up in front of a mirror.
Admiration for the opposite sex.
Among the wizarding community, could begin to bud as early as the first year.
"Boom!"
An older witch attempted to use magic to comb her hair, but as Gryffindor students were notoriously easily distracted, her spell failed when she saw a boy she liked walk by.
Her originally long, straight black hair.
Not only turned into an afro.
But also took on a complexion that might not be so favored in this castle—some came to show concern, while others offered insincere comfort, as most of the girls’ struggles took place in private.
"Why doesn’t any girl like me or sneak glances at me?" Ron and Neville also yawned and walked out of their dormitory, having stayed up late pursuing the "immortal" lifestyle.
But not to play chess or meet secretly, just having been shaken by experiencing a rule-breaking scare. One could only wonder if this incident taught Ron a lesson.
As for Neville?
He was always less decisive.
If his friends behaved normally, he would actually abide by the rules.
"Maybe it’s because you haven’t grown into your features yet? Guys go through an awkward adolescent phase," Neville didn’t dare tell the truth, after all, if Ron knew he was considered the class clown among freshmen.
No telling if Ron would challenge those spreading his "heroic deeds" to a duel. Neville didn’t want to see his good friend engage in a brother-against-brother duel with his brothers.
"You’re just comforting me."
Ron appreciated it, but he wasn’t dumb; he knew his looks were nothing remarkable, "Honestly, I really don’t understand why I look so different from my brothers."
Of course, he didn’t suspect his mother of having an affair.
He was simply expressing a sentiment.
"It’s the not growing into it yet, definitely because you haven’t grown into it yet..."
Neville, overthinking it, quickly repeated his point. Both lacked friends in the house, so they left the common room and jogged towards the Great Hall.
Breakfast time.
Whoever was late had to eat leftovers.
Before mastering the correct way to open the Hogwarts dining hall and discovering the secret kitchen, most little wizards had to rely on their hands to get the food they wanted.
"Mine!"
"Give me that!"
"Darn it, it’s gone again."
Indeed.
Relying on hands to fight, to grab.
The Great Hall was buzzing with activity.
The long tables were piled high with steaming food, fragrant bacon and eggs, golden crispy toast, bubbling pumpkin juice... and some innovatively improved dishes influenced by Ian.
All were quite delicious too.
The hall was full of growing children, who ate a lot. Ron and Neville sat at one end of the Gryffindor table, with food piled almost like a mountain in front of them.
They devoured their breakfast while jokingly competing over who could eat more and faster.
"I can swallow this entire pancake in one bite!" Ron shouted, mouth stuffed and unclear.
"You’re bluffing! I bet, with one after-class assignment at stake, that you’ll choke!" Neville, not to be outdone, quickly sent his fork flying towards his mouth.
Well.
Ron remained consistent in his performance.
"Cough cough cough~"
He choked.
His face flushed red.
Fortunately, this might already be his freshman norm, and the helpless prefect came to rescue this troublesome little brother, wholeheartedly advising Ron to eat more slowly.
"At home, I never had anything this delicious, and that’s not my mom’s cooking fault, it’s just you guys and Ginny stealing all the food from me!"
Ron liked to tease his brothers with irony.
"Bring it on!"
Ron had gotten used to it, and so had his fellow students, so he no longer felt embarrassed, and his classmates no longer found him choking embarrassing either.
What did they call this?
Desensitization!
Ron earned his peers’ respect in his own way—a rumor among other houses’ students already prevails that Ron regularly choked on phlegm blocking his throat.
"I won!"
Neville didn’t care about Ron’s insistence on trying again.
