Chapter 62- The Child Of Gold (Part 1)

As the girl’s eyes opened slowly and as she stared directly at Rein, he felt something he had never felt before. Putting it into words was impossible, and making sense of it was even harder. It was simply as if he was staring at something that shouldn’t exist... A creature that transcends this world and everything within it.

She didn’t look like an earthling, or even something humane in any way. Her eyes, as deep as the deepest seas, seemed to carry something this world could never create. Rein was unable to speak for a second.

’Severance?’ He asked himself as he realized what she said. ’What is she talking about? Is she talking to me?’

The word was totally human, its context, however, was far from. Rein wrecked his brain for a second before he finally asked a question.

"What are you?" He asked in a quiet tone, almost as if he didn’t know what he was asking. The girl blinked silently, but didn’t reply to his question.

So, Rein shook his head and was about to ask another question. However, at that moment, as his mouth parted open, the entire cave suddenly shook as debris started falling to the ground.

It was as if an earthquake had hit it violently, making the structure unstable for a moment. Rein quickly looked around him with a cold expression.

’It’s coming.’ He clenched his teeth as he felt the large spider slowly closing the distance. The scary part was that Rein simply felt it; he couldn’t really hear anything. ’I will ask the questions later. I need to get out of here before we both die.’

With no time to waste, Rein put the child over his shoulder and started running deeper into the cave. He knew that it was risky to continue down this path, but he truly had no other option, which was at least somewhat comforting.

Dashing through the darkness, the cave shook again, and he felt it in his bones. The monster’s presence was all around him, and he knew that it could see him.

’Left? Right? Perhaps above me?’ He asked himself as beads of sweat rolled down his face and his hand clenched the sword for dear life. He needed to predict the attack, or his reaction speed was simply not fast enough to truly dodge it in time.

He had to find a way to be proactive rather than reactive and against something several levels ahead of him in strength... It was almost impossible.

However, Rein had to try as his heart raced.

*BANG*

The den shook for another time, this one being far more violent than the others, pushing Rein off his balance as he tried to quickly adjust his body.

However, as if the monster knew that was exactly what would happen, suddenly a large blast echoed across the entire den as the wall was smashed through violently. The rocks and countless spider webs flew everywhere, raining down on Rein.

The latter quickly used his sword as he cut through them rapidly. At the same time, his eyes saw a glimpse of the spider as it appeared and then disappeared into the darkness.

’Shit. Shit!’ He cursed and then immediately sprang into motion, trying to run for his life. It didn’t take a second for his worst nightmare to occur.

*Swish*

A large chunk of webs flew out of the blinding darkness toward him. His eyes could see it for a split second, and he could feel it approaching him rapidly.

’I won’t... make it!’ He clenched his teeth tightly as he tried to turn around and mitigate the impact that was about to happen. He closed his eyes and instinctively protected the little girl with him. If he was going to get hit either way, he was going to at least protect the girl so she wouldn’t die from the impact.

However, what happened next was something he could’ve never imagined would happen. It all occurred in a split second, way faster than the eye could even blink. The quiet girl suddenly looked up as something in her eyes clicked, and the blue color within them shone brightly.

At the same time, the golden hue around her shone brightly and wrapped around Rein as if it wanted to swallow him whole.

*BOOOOOOM*

The moment the webs hit the target, they dissipated into thin air as if they were never there to begin with. Rein, whose eyes were closed shut, realized what had just happened as he opened them.

"Huh?" Looking down, he saw that his body was radiating the same golden color. The light had wrapped around him, creating a protective barrier. At the same time, Rein felt an incredibly pleasant sensation throughout every inch of his body. All the pain and discomfort he was experiencing that entire time started to reduce rapidly. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

His eyes wandered to the gruesome injury he suffered earlier and shockingly... He could see that it started healing in real time, before his eyes.

His eyes widened in shock as they wandered to the girl who stared back at him innocently. He was completely lost for words. What he just witnessed had completely shattered his brain.

"What... the hell-"

Before he could even finish the sentence, his senses felt another threat approaching. Looking up, he saw the spider arm stretching from the darkness as it stabbed down toward him.

This time, Rein was anticipating it, and because of the radiating golden hue, his body moved way faster than before. It was as if every cell in his body was rejuvenated and boosted to its maximum capabilities. Rein never felt that energetic before in his life.

*BANG*

Like a ghost, Rein disappeared from where he stood and appeared in a different spot as he stared at the spider directly, his eyes cold and dangerous.

"I don’t know what’s exactly happening, but... Hey, kid, I need your power for a bit. Keep this light around me until I can kill this thing." He said as he stared at the little girl. He didn’t know if she understood him or not since she didn’t give any hints, but judging by the fact that she didn’t take the light away... He assumed that she understood.

So, Rein quickly put her over his shoulders.

"Hold onto me tight. This is going to be bumpy!" He said as he channeled all his rejuvenated Essence to the maximum. All the strength, speed, and stamina, all to the extreme, as he dashed forward.

His speed shocked him. He cut the distance almost instantly. Ahead of him, the cold eyes of the spider stared back menacingly as it beckoned him to come closer to his demise.

*Swish*

"So many webs..." Teo muttered as he stared out of the car window at the world outside. All around him, for large stretches of land, were layers of webs that seemed to have been left by the spiders. An entire section of the city had become a land where spiders infested every corner.

After hearing what happened, the group took the car and followed the horde of spiders toward their apparent source. The fact that they were seeing that many webs was a good sign.

However, Violet knew that this wasn’t really good... Because the actual spiders themselves were nowhere to be seen.

’Rein, please wait... Please don’t die.’ She clenched the steering wheel as she drove faster toward the target, hear hearing racing loudly in her chest.

"We will save him."
