Chapter 419: Chapter 419: Mopping Up
Xu Wuyi looked at their formation, a flicker of coldness in his eyes.
Ever since he began traveling between the Star Realms, he’d had a significant history with the Werewolf Race.
Wolfman War Generals had gone from being formidable opponents to enemies he could kill in an instant, and now...
Now, he was an Innate Martial Artist.
To him, these War Generals were no different than ants.
He stepped forward, walking directly into the Werewolves’ formation.
The heavy-shielded War General at the front roared, charging with its shield. Five thick bone shields smashed toward Xu Wuyi with immense force. A direct hit would have shattered the bones of even a Martial Artist.
But Xu Wuyi simply raised his right hand, splayed his fingers, and pressed forward into the empty air.
BANG—!
The five bone shields exploded simultaneously, and the War Generals behind them were sent flying back, spitting blood. Their chests were caved in, and it was clear they wouldn’t survive.
The War Generals in the rear froze for a moment, but battle instincts drove them to attack. Spears thrust for his throat, War Axes swung at his head, and Curved Sabers slashed for his waist...
Xu Wuyi didn’t break his stride.
He passed through the crowd of War Generals as if on a leisurely stroll. In his wake, they fell one after another. Some had their heads explode, others their hearts burst, and still others were engulfed in dark golden flames.
More than twenty War Generals had delayed Xu Wuyi for less than ten seconds.
When the last War General fell, Xu Wuyi had already reached the city gate.
From deep within the fortress, two powerful auras finally erupted.
"Human! You’re courting death!"
Amid the roars, two figures charged out from the fortress’s main building. It was a pair of twin Priests. They looked nearly identical, right down to the style of their Bone Armor.
The only difference was that one wielded a Bone Staff, and the other, a Bone Saber.
"Kill him!" the Bone Staff Priest roared, the tip of his staff glowing with a piercing blood-red light.
The crimson light coalesced in mid-air, forming the phantom of a three-headed blood wolf. Its six eyes locked onto Xu Wuyi at once, spewing six streams of blood-red breath.
Meanwhile, the Bone Saber Priest charged straight forward. His Bone Saber was shrouded in black energy, and the air shrieked and tore in his path.
It was a well-coordinated attack, combining ranged and melee. They were at least thirty percent stronger than the pair from Stronghold Seven.
But Xu Wuyi had no interest in dragging out the fight.
He needed to end the battle in the shortest time possible, then retreat. Reinforcements from the Celestial Wolf Civilization could arrive at any moment; he couldn’t take the risk.
Xu Wuyi took the Fire Source Stone from within his clothes and held it in his palm once more.
This time, he didn’t levitate the round stone. Instead, he directly infused it with the Power of Heart Image, then gently tossed the Fire Source Stone at the charging Bone Saber Priest.
The round stone carved a dark red arc through the air. It wasn’t fast—in fact, it was almost slow.
A hint of confusion flashed in the Bone Saber Priest’s eyes, but he didn’t stop. He raised his Bone Saber high, preparing to shatter the stone with one slash.
But just as the Bone Saber was about to touch the Fire Source Stone, the surface of the round stone lit up with a blazing white light.
The light wasn’t blinding, but it carried an indescribable sense of weight.
The Bone Saber Priest’s movements suddenly froze.
He felt his thoughts slowing, his body growing heavy, and everything around him receding. He tried to swing his saber, but his arm wouldn’t lift. He tried to retreat, but his legs wouldn’t obey.
Then he looked down at his chest.
Somehow, a fist-sized hole had appeared in it. He could see the scenery behind him through the cavity. There was no blood; the wound had been instantly vaporized by the intense heat.
"This... impossi..."
The Bone Saber Priest’s consciousness stopped there, forever.
The Fire Source Stone continued to fly forward, heading towards the Bone Staff Priest.
The Bone Staff Priest’s face was ashen. He had seen how his companion died and understood the terror of the round stone. He desperately channeled his Heart Image, and the phantom of the three-headed blood wolf materialized in front of him, spewing an even denser stream of blood-red breath.
But it was useless.
The Fire Source Stone passed through the blood-red breath as easily as if it were passing through air. The breath silently dissolved upon touching the blazing white light on the stone’s surface.
The Bone Staff Priest wanted to flee, but it was too late.
The Fire Source Stone gently bumped against his chest.
There was no sound, no explosion.
The Bone Staff Priest looked down at the rapidly expanding hole in his chest. He wanted to say something, but his throat was already gone. Three seconds later, his entire body turned into a wisp of green smoke and dissipated into the air.
The Fire Source Stone flew back into Xu Wuyi’s hand. The light on its surface had dimmed considerably, with less than thirty percent of its Energy remaining.
Xu Wuyi put away the round stone and looked at the surviving Werewolf Warriors inside the fortress.
Those warriors had long since been scared out of their wits. When they saw the two Priests killed in an instant, their last shred of fighting spirit collapsed. Some dropped their weapons and fled, some knelt and begged for mercy, and some simply stood in place, waiting for death.
Xu Wuyi showed no mercy.
He walked into the fortress, fully unleashing his Power of Heart Image. Within a forty-meter radius, all the Werewolf Warriors collapsed at once. Some had their heads explode, others their hearts burst. The manner of their deaths varied, but the outcome was the same.
Five minutes later, a dead silence returned to the fortress.
Xu Wuyi stood at the highest point of the main building, surveying his surroundings.
Three Werewolf strongholds, seven Priests, over two hundred War Generals and warriors, all dead.
This was his first gift in return to the Celestial Wolf Civilization.
He leaped down from the building and began a quick search of the fortress: important intelligence files, Energy Crystal Stones, rare materials...
Finding no particularly valuable intelligence, he sent a message to the auxiliary squad, telling them to come clean up the battlefield.
...
When Su He arrived at Stronghold Nine with the auxiliary squad, the battle was long over.
A dead silence permeated the fortress, inside and out. Only charred corpses and still-wet blood emitted a nauseating stench under the dim, red sky.
Li Rui crouched down to examine the corpse of a War General. His expression changed slightly as his finger lightly touched the edge of the charred hole in its chest.
"The Power of Heart Image erupted from within, incinerating the heart and major meridians," he said in a low voice. "Clean and decisive. It didn’t even have a chance to struggle."
Zhao Cheng was already at work. He held a portable Energy Detector in his hand, quickly scanning the inside of the fortress and marking the locations of valuable materials.
Chen Xiaoyu followed behind him, processing the marked corpses one by one, removing the intact Bone Armor cores and tail stingers. Her movements were practiced and swift, without a trace of hesitation.
Xie Yushan, on the other hand, went straight to the control room. She began copying data from the storage devices while simultaneously monitoring nearby energy fluctuations, on alert for any potential reinforcements.
Su He stood where he was, surveying the surroundings.
’Three strongholds, seven Priests, over two hundred War Generals and warriors.’
’It’s only been three hours since we received Xu Wuyi’s signal.’
’This level of efficiency... calling it "terrifying" is an understatement.’
"Captain." Li Rui approached Su He and lowered his voice. "I’ve examined all the corpses of War General Level and above. The method of death is highly consistent—either their hearts burst or their skulls were pulverized. Whoever did this has a horrifyingly precise control of their power."
Su He nodded but said nothing.
