Chapter 256: Chapter 256: Do You Like Her or Hate Her?
Qin Huan rolled her eyes skyward again.
She didn’t get along with her younger brother’s family, yet her son, Lu Shiran, showed her no sympathy, even thinking she was too petty.
She had tried to instill in him that the Lu Group was his and he shouldn’t let his younger uncle’s family take it away, only to be accused of greed herself.
He even announced that he wanted to do scientific research, to develop a spacecraft and one day adventure into outer space.
He was going to be a man who’d be King of the Universe! He wouldn’t be corrupted by money.
The more Qin Huan thought about it, the more tight-chested she felt. Why should she have to hand over the family fortune to her younger brother’s family?
...
After Lu Shiran sat down, he couldn’t stay still, thinking no one noticed, he sneakily glanced at Qiao Yun.
Looked away, then sneaked another glance, looked away, and then another.

Qiao Yun: “…”
When Lu Shiran looked at her again, she suddenly lifted her eyes to meet his.
Lu Shiran was abruptly confronted by Qiao Yun’s gaze, which made his heart pound as he said in a fierce, lowered voice, “What are you looking at.”
Qiao Yun didn’t say anything, withdrawing her gaze.
Lu Shiran must dislike her.
Seeing that Qiao Yun wasn’t looking at him anymore, the guilt in Lu Shiran’s eyes dissipated, and his gaze landed on Qiao Yun’s bowl where he reservedly served her some dishes.
“Are you a child? You eat so little. This dish is good, this one too. Have you tried them…”
Qiao Yun looked at the heap of food in her bowl and fell silent.
Lu Shiran paused with his chopsticks and said hesitantly, “I’m worried about your nutrition. Do you know exams involve physical effort too? I want to compete with you fair and square.”
He eyed Qiao Yun, skinny and petite, not healthy at all, and yet chubby would be cuter…
Qiao Yun took a bite of food, filling her cheeks.
Did Lu Shiran like her or dislike her in the end?
Sigh, humans are so complicated.
Seeing Qiao Yun eat, Lu Shiran felt a bizarre sense of satisfaction, as if he had successfully fed her.
Lu Jingzhi had intended to serve Qiao Yun some dishes but was preempted by Lu Shiran, leaving him reluctantly retracting his hand.
Qin Huan watched her son courting favor and said with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile, “Qiaoqiao, eat more if you like it. You probably couldn’t have enjoyed such delicious food before. If you like it, you can come often.”
The insinuation was as though Lu Rui was shortchanging her foodwise.
Even though Qin Huan was known for such comments, a hint of surprise flashed across the old lady’s face.
Qiao Yun ignored Qin Huan, just finding her too noisy, incessantly nagging ever since she returned.
So annoying.
Lu Shiran expressed his frustration, saying, “Mom, my uncle is richer than us. If my cousin wants something, does she need to come here? To be honest, our family has money too, but we don’t compare to my uncle who started his own company, whereas my dad works for Lu Group. It’s just not the same level.”
Su Mian laughed out loud and then served Lu Shiran some food, “Eat up, my good nephew.”
“Thanks, auntie,” Lu Shiran smiled sheepishly, being utterly well-behaved.
Qin Huan inhaled sharply, frustrated—her son was acting like a creditor.
After dinner.
The patriarch invited everyone to the tearoom to catch up.
The tearoom was built in the garden with transparent glass walls, offering a view of the beautiful surroundings.
Especially during summer nights, one could sit in the tearoom and gaze at the starry sky.
Lu Shiran didn’t follow them; he had originally made plans with friends and had rushed back midway. His friend had already called him a few times, chastising him for favoring sister over friends.
He wasn’t, he hadn’t.
He just wanted to know who exactly was this demon or monster that defeated him—it wasn’t because he wanted to see his sister.
“Here’s a little gadget for you to play with.”
Lu Shiran took out a robot he had made, roughly the size of an action figure.
Although crudely made, Qiao Yun inspected it and raised her eyebrows in surprise.
The robot could engage in simple dialogues and obey basic commands.
This cousin wasn’t that bad after all.
