Chapter 14: Chapter 14: "Your Majesty, You Can’t Escape
Threatened by the Little Emperor, Prince Jing and his son stayed up all night trying to figure out how things had turned out this way.
They hadn’t done a thing, yet the Little Emperor had shown up out of the blue. It was like a bolt from the blue, leaving them both shocked and bewildered.
Although they still weren’t sure what scheme the Emperor was plotting, the one thing they could be certain of was that their peaceful days were over.
Prince Jing went to the morning court session early. Xiao Lv woke up a little later, and after getting ready, he went to the Imperial Study Room to wait for the Emperor to finish court and begin their studies.
Knowing he was there to be the Emperor’s study companion, he even mentally reviewed the books he had read before, wondering how he should act to make the right impression.
He couldn’t be too smart—at least, not smarter than the Emperor. But he couldn’t be too stupid either; being a fool would only invite ridicule.
He just didn’t know how well the Little Emperor did in his studies. Before, the Little Emperor had just been a puppet with very little presence, so Xiao Lv had never paid any attention to the matter.
Just as he was lost in thought, the Emperor suddenly appeared out of nowhere, grabbed his hand, and started running.
"Your Majesty!?" Xiao Lv jumped in shock.
"Quick, quick, quick!" Xiao Yang’s face was flushed with excitement, her eyes sparkling.
Xiao Lv, completely bewildered, was dragged along. "Your Majesty, where are we going?"
Xiao Yang didn’t slow down but glanced back at him. "Do you have any fun places to recommend?"
’Fun places?’
Xiao Lv then realized they were heading out of the palace.
’Is the Emperor trying to leave the palace? But why are we in such a hurry?’
After running over two hundred meters in one go, Xiao Yang finally slowed her pace and let out a long breath. "Phew, we finally escaped."
Xiao Lv asked, "Your Majesty, aren’t we supposed to be studying?"
Xiao Yang’s expression immediately changed. "Don’t say that. If you don’t, we can still be good bros."
She raised a hand to wipe away her sweat. The moment morning court ended, she had changed her clothes and then, without stopping, grabbed Xiao Lv and ran. It was exhausting.
She patted her pockets. Wallet, check. Dagger, check. Excellent. "Let’s go. We’re not coming back until we’re drunk."
Xiao Lv: "..."
Both yesterday and today, every time the Little Emperor opened his mouth, it was something he never would have expected.
You could never guess what she was planning to do.
The Little Emperor’s steps were light, a clear sign of her good mood. However, just as she rounded a corner, she froze as if struck by lightning, standing stick-straight on the spot. The joyful aura around her instantly vanished.
Xiao Lv looked over in confusion, his own mood sinking slightly.
In the middle of the palace path ahead stood a figure dressed in black. Even though Xiao Lv wasn’t involved in court politics, he recognized this person: the Regent King, Rong Yin.
Rong Yin exuded a stern, chilling aura. His gaze, full of ill intent, was fixed on the Little Emperor. As for the Little Emperor, her body had gone as stiff as a board.
Xiao Lv was certain: the Little Emperor was afraid of the Regent King.
’That’s not surprising, though. The Little Emperor’s power is still too weak, and he’s not very old. Just about anyone could control him. No wonder he said those things to my father yesterday.’
’Besides my father, there’s no one else he can threaten. He wants to seek help to fight against the Regent King and his faction.’
’My father has kept a low profile all these years, but that doesn’t mean he’s done nothing. He is, after all, the late Emperor’s older brother. If he were to truly make a move, he’d still have the power to contend.’
’But he won’t expose the Prince Mansion’s true strength to the Regent King just for the Little Emperor.’
While Xiao Lv’s mind raced, frantically searching for a strategy, Rong Yin started walking toward them. The Little Emperor, who had been frozen like a statue, turned tail and fled.
"?!?"
Xiao Lv subconsciously followed the Little Emperor. "Your Majesty, what are we running from?"
Xiao Yang cried, "We’re doomed if we don’t run!"
Xiao Lv, his mind full of conspiracy theories, said, "In broad daylight, the Regent King wouldn’t dare to harm you."
Xiao Yang retorted, "He’s already made my life miserable!"
Xiao Yang paid him no mind and just kept running blindly.
Weaving left and right, she had no idea how far she’d run before finally ducking into a small palace hall to hide.
"HUFF... HUFF... HUFF..."
Xiao Yang was so tired she was gasping for breath, and Xiao Lv was in a similar state, panting like a dog. He really couldn’t understand why he had run along with the Little Emperor.
"Hah... Your... Majesty... Hah... why... did we... run..."
Xiao Yang didn’t answer. Her gaze fell on a nearby wall, and seeing it was an excellent spot, she said, "Come on, let’s go hide over there."
’Hide?’
Xiao Lv looked up, even more confused.
As the two of them huffed and puffed, preparing to climb the wall, a figure suddenly appeared from the other side, landing on top of it as lightly and silently as a ghost.
"Oof."
Xiao Yang lost her grip and fell right to the ground.
She landed hard, right on her butt.
Rong Yin glanced at her, landed gracefully, and without a word, reached out to grab her by the collar.
Xiao Yang quickly rolled out of the way, her face a mask of fury. "Rong Yin, don’t push me too far! I will never submit to you!"
Rong Yin’s eyelid twitched. He feinted a move, and just as Xiao Yang was about to bolt, he anticipated her action and snatched her by the collar.
A demonic voice sounded from above her head. "Your Majesty, you can’t escape."
Xiao Yang tried to resist, to no avail.
She turned to Xiao Lv, furiously pleading for help. "Bro, beat him up!"
Xiao Lv was dumbfounded. Xiao Lv didn’t dare!
He had no idea what was happening.
It wasn’t until the Emperor was dragged back to the Imperial Study Room and books were placed in front of her that her expression shifted from fury to one of deep-seated bitterness and resentment.
She glared at the books and Rong Yin as if they were her mortal enemies and protested resolutely, "I will not study!"
Rong Yin was cold and merciless. "That is not for you to decide!"
She sneered. "You may be handsome and a feast for the eyes, but you become utterly hideous when you try to force me to study!"
Rong Yin was speechless for a moment, but remained cruel and heartless. "Whether this king is beautiful or ugly does not change the fact that Your Majesty must study. Today’s lesson is on economics. Your Majesty will listen carefully. Afterwards, you are to write a one-thousand-word essay for this king to review."
"THUD!"
The Little Emperor face-planted on the ground, playing dead on the spot.
Xiao Lv: "..." ’I think I get it now,’ he thought. ’But I’d rather I didn’t.’
’So the Little Emperor went through all that trouble just because he didn’t want to study?’
’And here I thought the Regent King was finally going to make a move against the Emperor. Turns out *this* was the ’move’ he was going to make...’
’How absurd and hilarious.’
’A struggle for Imperial Power? All I see is a hopeless slacker.’
Rong Yin was only responsible for teaching the Little Emperor. Xiao Lv was merely an auditor; the man didn’t even spare him a glance.
Rong Yin had been a young genius of the previous generation, and Xiao Lv greatly admired him, so he listened very attentively. It was just that the Little Emperor sitting next to him was incredibly distracting.
She was either slouched over the desk or leaning back, with no proper posture whatsoever.
While the Regent King lectured earnestly, she slept soundly.
"CRACK!"
The ruler in the Regent King’s hand finally struck the Little Emperor.
Xiao Yang shot up. "Ah! Rong Yin, I’m going to kill you!"
The Little Emperor flew into a rage, but the Regent King clamped a hand on her head, forcefully suppressing her. "If you don’t listen, the essay length doubles. This king will personally watch Your Majesty. You can rest when you’ve finished!"
Xiao Lv was positive that in that instant, he saw a surging killing intent in the Little Emperor’s eyes.
’The Regent King and the Emperor becoming mortal enemies... sounds terrifying, doesn’t it? It conjures images of bloody massacres, power struggles, and a fight to the death.’
But right now, Xiao Lv just wanted to laugh. And he was a little speechless.
