Chapter 58: Chapter 58 Leave the door open
“Help! Doctor! Someone! This fat hag is abusing me! Save me!!”
“You old bald-ass donkey, calling me a fat hag?! I’ll kill you!”
Suddenly, the woman exerted all her strength, leaping up with a flying kick. Her nearly 200-pound frame landed squarely on Dane.
The gravely injured Dane couldn’t dodge in time. After a scream like a pig being slaughtered, the old bald donkey instantly became a dead donkey.
Alana was unaware of what had happened to Dane, but she had already learned from her colleagues that the company had decided to lay him off.
If Dane left the company, her life would finally be a little more peaceful.
Moreover, Alana had received a 10,000 dollars commission, which had been deposited into her payroll account along with her salary.
The moment she received her paycheck, she felt a surge of joy.
But when she thought about the 10,000 dollars she had to repay to a certain man, she couldn’t stay happy.
She still owed 30,000 dollars.
After paying back 10,000, there’s still 20,000 left, what on earth is she going to do? Alana shook her head and decided to take things one step at a time.
She’d pay him back the 10,000 first and worry about the rest later. Alana tapped on the man’s black WhatsApp profile picture and sent the receipt to him.
Note: Debt repayment.
After a moment’s hesitation, she sent a message.
Alana: Um, thanks for your help. That scumbag who almost hurt me has already been fired by the company.
Alana didn’t see a reply from the man, and he hadn’t accepted the 10,000 dollars transfer either.
He must be busy.
Alana didn’t think much of it; she put down her phone and went back to work. Stephan was indeed busy, busy having dinner with his family.
When he received Alana message, his mother, Cynthia, was asking him how things were going with the girl he’d been pursuing lately, whether he’d managed to win her over.
Stephan gave a few perfunctory replies, but his mind was already preoccupied with Alana.
Cynthia could easily tell her son was being evasive.
Frowning, she asked, “You haven’t heard from her in so long, doesn’t she have any interest in you? If she’s not interested, then don’t force yourself on her. Move on to someone else. I have another pretty doctor in my office in case you didn’t like the last one I told you about...”
Stephan picked up on a particular word and looked up, asking, “What’s wrong with forcing myself on her?”
Cynthia snapped, “What do you mean, ‘what’s wrong with forcing myself on her’? The girl clearly isn’t interested in you, how can you have the nerve to keep pursuing her? You can’t force a relationship, cut your losses while you still can!”
Stephan remained expressionless. “Who says a forced relationship isn’t sweet? I find it quite sweet, actually. With every bite, the flavor seeps deep into my bones.”
Cynthia was speechless.
What? Did her son really force himself on that young girl?!
Her husband felt awkward and couldn’t help but clear his throat, “Ahem, ahem...”
Cynthia snapped back to reality and glared at her son, “You little rascal, don’t go messing around! We’re a respectable family, we don’t do anything illegal!”
Stephan’s expression remained impassive. “Rest assured, your son is a law-abiding citizen. He would never commit a single crime.” He spoke with the utmost seriousness, but whether his true intentions were equally serious was another matter.
Cynthia felt she knew her son fairly well; he was usually well-mannered, dignified, and self-restrained.
He wouldn’t do anything to force himself on a young girl against her will.
What he’d just said was probably just a joke meant for them as his parents.
Cynthia didn’t give it a second thought and continued, “Anyway, this doctor is a good match. You should consider it. I’ve mentioned you to her, and she’s very impressed with you. If you feel like you can’t pursue that girl any further, have a meal with her and get to know her.”
“If you’re not satisfied with her, I have plenty of other options, the Darwin family’s daughter, the Fosters family’s daughter, and so on. They’re all quite suitable...”
“I’m too busy right now.”
“No time, no time. Every time I set you up on a blind date, you say you’re too busy. How come you’re never too busy to be busy?”
“Honey, hurry up and tell us about your rebellious son, he never gives his family a moment’s peace!” Bernard Hudson, prodded by his wife, added half-heartedly, “Stephan, it’s time for you to find a girlfriend, get married, and start a family.”
“Your mom’s been dying to hold a grandchild!”
Stephan chuckled and offered a rather sincere suggestion, “Why don’t you try a little harder, Dad, and have another one with Mom? Have a well-behaved, obedient one, so this rebellious son of yours doesn’t have to torment you two every day.”
Cynthia laughed in exasperation, “Your dad’s too old, he can’t have kids anymore!”
Bernard couldn’t help but defend himself, “Honey, I don’t think I’m that old yet. I can still have kids...”
“If I say you can’t have kids, you can’t! Don’t try to prove me wrong! I’m the doctor here!”
Bernard pouted.
After exchanging a few lighthearted banter with his parents, Stephan stepped outside, lit a cigarette, and put it in his mouth.
He hadn’t accepted Alana’s money transfer yet.
He realized that for every moment he delayed accepting it, his mind grew more preoccupied with it.
It was as if he’d been bewitched.
Stephan furrowed his brow, paused for a moment, then pulled out his phone and opened Alana’s WhatsApp.
A 10,000 dollars receipt lay waiting for him.
And there was her message:
Alana: Um, thanks for your help. That scumbag who almost hurt me has already been fired by the company.
Stephan chuckled, his long fingers tapping away as he quickly typed out a message.
Stephan: No need to thank me. Leave the door open for me tonight, I’m coming over to stay.
There was an element of jest in it, but only he knew how much of it was true.
By the time she received his reply, it had already been an hour since she’d gotten off work.
Alana’s cheeks flushed slightly, and she silently cursed him a “scoundrel”!
But she didn’t send it; she just reminded him.
Alana: Don’t forget to accept the transfer.
