Chapter 161: Chapter 161 Still burned
Lying in bed, Alana recalled what had happened the night before, and her cheeks still burned.
She couldn’t forget that wicked man, carrying her into the bathroom, coaxing her into letting him undress her, and scrubbing her body all over.
But as he washed her, things took a turn. The first time was right there in the bathtub, reliving the madness of that night.
Then, he held her as she sat on the sink, his bathrobe folded beneath her bottom.
She faced him, their skin pressed against each other, with a mirror behind them.
At the height of his desire, he couldn’t resist gripping her chin, turning her face toward him so she could see her own expression, confused, intoxicated, and utterly unable to contain her passion.
He buried his face in the crook of her neck, kissing her repeatedly, teasing her.
Alana took a few deep breaths to catch her breath, then slowly climbed out of bed.
This morning.
Stephan was up early again, having personally prepared breakfast for her.
After all, having been worn out all night, she didn’t have the energy to handle any of this. But he seemed to have boundless energy, like a male demon who’d just absorbed a full dose of essence.
As for her, she felt like a limp, listless little kitten. Still, waking up every morning to a ready-made breakfast felt pretty nice.
Even though their relationship had only just begun, Alana couldn’t help but look
forward to every day to come, wondering if they would be just as warm and cozy as this. She took a sip of the meat congee he’d cooked; the sweet, savory flavor made a happy smile spill across her face.
“It’s so good!”
Stephan looked at her. “What’s so good?”
Alana looked at him, her eyes sparkling.
“It’s so nice to have breakfast cooked by my boyfriend every day.”
This was something she had never even dared to imagine before.
Stephan curved his lips and reached out to pinch her delicate little cheek. “If you like it, eat a little more.”
But deep down, he had already made a silent promise to himself, from now on, whenever he had the time, he would make breakfast for his girlfriend, because she loved it.
Alana blinked. “I’ve had enough.”
Stephan studied her. “Not enough. You’re too skinny.”
Alana asked with a smile, “Isn’t being a little thinner better? Lots of girls think they’re fat and are always complaining about losing weight.”
Stephan said earnestly, “I can’t control other girls, but my girlfriend doesn’t need to
lose weight, as long as she’s healthy.”
Alana smiled, her lips pressed together.
She absolutely loved hearing that.
Besides, he was really different from those men who look down on their girlfriends for
being overweight and demand they lose weight.
So, being with him, she didn’t feel much pressure. The man paused for a moment, then suddenly changed the subject.
“Although you don’t need to lose weight, you still need to exercise regularly. After all, you’re so delicate and can’t handle rough treatment.”
She was so delicate and soft that sometimes he was genuinely afraid he might snap her in two if he used too much force.
Alana froze for a moment, inwardly wailing in despair. Wasn’t doing those “bedtime
exercises” with him every night enough?
But mostly he did all the work while she just enjoyed it.
But as her physics teacher had said, the action of a force is always mutual.
While he was exerting himself, she was the one enduring it.
No wonder she was so exhausted.
Alana evaded the question, “Let’s talk about it later.”
The truth was, she was just lazy and didn’t feel like exercising.
Her work was already so exhausting every day; all she wanted to do when she got home was lie in bed, watch some videos, and catch up on TV shows. She had no energy left for exercise.
Stephan chuckled, seeing right through her evasion. “For the sake of your health, I’ll be keeping an eye on you from now on.”
Alana pouted, asking defiantly, “Is it really for my health, or just for your own pleasure?”
Stephan asked, “If I said it’s purely for you, would you believe me?”
Without a moment’s hesitation, Alana replied, “No way!”
The man raised an eyebrow. “Exactly.”
*********
Alana arrived at the office. Just as she stepped out of the elevator, a hand suddenly reached out and grabbed her.
She glanced sideways and saw Cole’s refined, handsome face, which betrayed a tension that didn’t quite match his usual demeanor.
His dark eyes, slightly obscured by his glasses, were a sea of turmoil, his emotions
impossible to read.
Cole stared at her and said, “About what Camila said to you last night, I’m apologizing on her behalf. She... can be a bit sensitive. Please don’t take it personally.”
Alana replied indifferently, “It’s fine. I’m used to it.”
Cole felt a lump in his throat.
He thought back to how Alana and Cole had once been at constant odds. He never expected that five years later, it would still be...
He couldn’t help but say, “When I got back last night, I gave her a good talking-to. From now on, she won’t...”
Alana suddenly interrupted him, her tone distant. “Manager Cole, I have no interest in matters between you and your sister. Is there anything else? If not, let go of me. I need to get back to work.”
Cole’s throat tightened even more.
“Lana, last night I told you to wait for me at the company entrance. Why didn’t you just wait there obediently? I told you, I’d just take Cami home and then came back to pick you up...”
Alana’s eyes were clear as she looked at him and said, “No one is going to wait for you in the same spot forever.”
That double-entendre stung Cole, making his eyelid twitch slightly.
He grabbed her wrist; the veins in his arm throbbed as he couldn’t help but squeeze a little too hard.
“Even if you weren’t waiting for me, I sent you messages and called you countless times. You could have at least answered the phone.”
“Do you have any idea how worried I was? I almost didn’t sleep a wink all night.”
Alana lowered her gaze. “I’m sorry. My phone was on silent; I didn’t notice.”
Cole called her out without hesitation. “You’re lying. You clearly declined the call!”
Alana took a deep breath. “Since you knew I was deliberately ignoring your calls, why did you keep calling?”
Cole frowned. “I told you, I was worried about you!”
Alana lifted her eyelashes, her clear eyes fixed intently on him, pure and free of any
trace of deception.
“Are you really worried about me? Or are you just enjoying the process of toying with me?”
Cole’s pupils contracted sharply.
Stared at by those pure, lively eyes, for some reason, he felt as though the dark thoughts he had once buried deep within his heart were now beginning to surface, laid bare before her.
“Lana, I’m not...”
Alana interrupted him softly, “I heard everything. The things you said at your birthday party just before you broke up with me to be with Sophia.”
At the time, she had been standing outside the door, holding the gift she had carefully prepared for him.
Beside him were a few close friends and relatives, including his younger sister, Camila.
One of his friends spoke up.
“Cole, it’s your birthday today. Are you inviting that girl who was abandoned by her
parents?”
“You’ve been looking out for her all these years, making her believe you two were in a relationship. Isn’t it time to wake her up from her delusion? Or have you fallen for her?”
Camila immediately retorted, “How could that be? My brother would never fall for that
lowly woman whom even her own parents rejected. He only looks after her because she’s quite smart, helping with his business and all.”
“Cole, is what your sister said true? Are you only giving her special treatment because you’re using her, with no other intentions whatsoever?”
Alana remembered exactly how Cole had responded at the time.
He held a half-full glass of red wine, swirling it slowly, his tone casual and nonchalant. “She’s so beautiful, what’s wrong with having a little interest in her? But with a family like hers, dating is fine, but marrying her? Forget it.”
Camila chimed in from the side, “Exactly! A man of my brother’s caliber is way out of
her league, she could try her hardest her whole life and still wouldn’t measure up. She’s only fit to be my brother’s lapdog!”
It was only then that Alana realized his kindness toward her had been motivated by ulterior motives.
And in his eyes, she was the kind of girl he could date, but never bring home to marry. Because he looked down on her and despised her background.
She couldn’t remember exactly how she felt at the time, but it seemed like she cried for a very, very long time when she ran home.
It took her several days to finally bring herself to cut off every last connection to him.
Cole couldn’t help but breathe heavily.
She had heard it after all.
No wonder she didn’t show up that day.
