Chapter 153: Chapter 153 Rubbing it on his face
Vance sighed.
What a disaster!
Why was he so masochistic, getting on the same elevator as the CEO?
The CEO was sure rubbing it on his face that he was single to stupid.
A little show-off every other day, a big one every three days, who can take this?!
He was going to be sick of all this bragging!
“Notify all departments to prepare their materials. We’ll have a meeting in the
conference room at 9:00.”
Vance grimaced.
What was the matter now?
The boss couldn’t only show off in front of him, so now he wanted to do it in front of all the employees?! CEO, don’t be such a jerk!
What an unfortunate day to be single!

Meanwhile.
When Alana arrived at the office, many of her colleagues were stunned by her stunning appearance.
Today she was wearing a blue dress with puffed sleeves, a blue ribbon tied around her neck, and a flower pinned to it.
Her demeanor was gentle and refreshing.
Stephan had picked out this dress for her, saying she looked like a little fairy in it, so
beautiful he couldn’t take his eyes off her.
She remembered telling him, “Isn’t it a bit inappropriate to wear such a pretty dress to
work?”
Stephan smiled and asked, “Why not? Who says you have to wear boring clothes to work? Girls shouldn’t let themselves be held back by rules and regulations, and they shouldn’t try to please others, just be yourself.”
Alana smiled.
That’s right, who doesn’t love wearing pretty dresses? Girls should feel free to express themselves and do what makes them happy.
She just never expected that Stephan, a man so prone to jealousy, would actually let her go out all dressed up.
She’d assumed he bought her all those pretty dresses just so she’d stay at his place and wear them only for him.
Carla reacted dramatically, “Wow, Lana, you’re wearing a new dress again today!I’ve noticed you’ve got so many new dresses lately, you hardly ever wear the same one twice!”
Alana smiled, her lips pressed together, and suddenly felt no need to hide it anymore.
“My boyfriend bought them.”
Carla was stunned. “Holy crap?! You really have a boyfriend?!”
Alana nodded. “Yeah, just started dating.”
This was such a surprise!
Alana was the most beautiful woman in their company. Many male colleagues have tried to pursue her, but she’s turned them all down.
Many people at the company even called her an innocent, pure-hearted girl.
Now she’s suddenly got a boyfriend, how could that not be shocking?
Carla’s curiosity got the better of her again. She batted her eyes and asked,
“Who’s your boyfriend? Can you tell me?” Alana winked back at Carla, “It’s not convenient to say just yet.”
After all, Carla was the company’s go-to source for gossip. If she were to share any
details about her boyfriend with her, it would be all over the office within a day. She didn’t dare take that risk.
Carla was a bit disappointed, but she didn’t press the issue.
She might be a gossip, but she didn’t go overboard.
If others didn’t bring it up, she wouldn’t pry, she knew when to stop.
“Lana, I’m so jealous of you, you actually have a boyfriend who takes care of your dresses every day!”
“And your boyfriend has such great taste, every dress he picks out for you is so pretty! Why haven’t I met a boyfriend who likes to buy me dresses?”
Alana smiled. “You’ll meet one too.”
Cole arrived at the project office and was also stunned by Alana’s outfit.
Just as he was about to approach her, he overheard her mention that she had a boyfriend, and that the dress she was wearing was actually a gift from him.
Cole felt as if his heart had been struck by a heavy punch; a dull, aching pain gripped him.
Suddenly, he realized he couldn’t accept the fact that Alana had a boyfriend. How could she be dating another man?
He clenched his fists tighter and spoke with a grim expression, “Alana!”
Alana and Carla heard the voice and turned around in surprise.
Carla gasped, “Manager Cole?”
Ignoring Carla, Cole fixed his gaze on Alana and said, “You, come to my office immediately. I need to speak with you!”
Without giving her a chance to refuse, he turned and walked away.
Alana frowned. What could he possibly want with her?
Carla was a little worried about Alana’s situation. “Lana , Manager Cole doesn’t look too happy. Did you do something to offend him?”
Alana shook her head. “It’s fine. I’ll be right back.”
Carla let out, “Be careful. I think he might have it out for you.”
“Mm-hmm.” Alana nodded, then got up and walked toward Cole’s office.

Cole returned to his office, feeling agitated.
His mind was filled with the happy smile
that had spread across Alana’s face just moments ago when she mentioned her boyfriend.
The more he thought about it, the more it pained him.
He never imagined that the little girl who used to follow him around like a shadow would end up dating another man.
And after all that time he’d spent trying to be close to her again, he finally got the opportunity...
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
As if sensing who was at the door, Cole took a deep breath and walked back to sit
in his chair.
“Come in!”
The door swung open, and Alana walked in.
She walked up to the desk, glanced at Cole, and asked in a businesslike tone,
“Manager Cole, you called?
Cole resented her aloof attitude toward him now.
“Lana, is there a problem? Can’t I just call you in?”
She pressed her lips together and remained silent.
Cole took a deep breath. “Tell me, do you have a boyfriend?”
He wanted her to confirm it herself, right in front of him.
She frowned. “Manager Cole, this is my personal business.”
Cole curled his lips. “Lana, am I not even allowed to know about your personal affairs anymore? Do you know that ever since we broke up, I was worried about you, worried that without me by your side, you’d get bullied. Only when I see you again, vibrant and radiant, will I finally be able to rest easy.”
Alana lowered her eyes, unsure of what to say.
He had certainly helped her a great deal.
Back then, she wasn’t just bullied by his sister, she’d also faced scorn, ridicule, and
even humiliation from many others.
Just because her parents had abandoned her, because her life was different from theirs, she was mocked.
Time and again, it was Cole who stepped in to save her.
During her high school years, Cole would always step in to defend her, encourage her, and offer her warmth.
That was why she’d often stick to him like a little shadow.
Young and naive, she couldn’t help but fall for a boy who stood up for her, a gentlemanly and kind boy.
But at the end, he didn’t hesitate to hurt her as well.
Alana raised her eyes; her gaze had grown much calmer.
“Manager Cole, I’m very grateful for how you looked out for me back then. But now, I’ve grown up, and I don’t need it anymore. I’m doing just fine without you, maybe even better, so there’s no need to worry about
me. Save your concern for someone who needs it more.”
Cole clenched his fists tighter, unable to bear listening to this.
“Lana...You won’t tell me because you don’t have a boyfriend, do you? You were lying to that coworker of yours, aren’t you?”
Alana shook her head. “No, I do have a boyfriend, but I didn’t think it was necessary to tell you.”
Cole’s breath caught in his throat; he hadn’t even heard the detachment in the
second half of her sentence.
All he heard was Alana admitting she had a boyfriend!
