Chapter 131: Chapter 131 Managed to run

Alana managed to run inside and immediately said, “Thank you.”

Out of breath, she hadn’t gotten a good look at the person. She turned to press the button for the fifth floor, only to find that the elevator was already headed there.

She paused in surprise. What a coincidence, it turned out the other person was going to the same floor as her.

At that very moment, an intensely piercing gaze fell upon Alana from behind.

It was a blatant, unashamed scrutiny.

But Alana was in such a hurry to deliver the coffee that she didn’t have the mind to

notice.

The moment the elevator doors opened, she stepped out without a moment’s delay, not sparing the man behind her a single glance.

It wasn’t until the man followed her out, his gaze fixed intently on her retreating figure, a look that was both meaningful and complex, that she realized.

Alana placed the coffee she had bought on the counter and spoke to the Deputy director.

The deputy director asked her to serve a cup of coffee to everyone. She added that the new manager was treating everyone.

This sparked curiosity among her colleagues, who was this new manager who was so generous?

Buying everyone Starbucks on their first day on the job.

Alana took a cup, feeling curious herself, and exchanged a few bits of office gossip

with Carla.

The deputy director suddenly spoke up,

“He’s here! Everyone, please stand up and welcome our new manager, Manager Cole.”

Everyone stood up and applauded in welcome.

Alana also stood up and looked curiously toward the door.

But when that figure slowly appeared in the doorway, she froze in place.

Unlike her reaction, the others’ expressions shifted from surprise to awe.

“Wow!”

“He’s so handsome!”

“I never expected our new manager to be so young and handsome!”

“Ahhhhh, I’m going crazy, I think I’m falling in love!”

The man walked in slowly, dressed in a black suit with a white shirt and black dress

pants.

Silver-rimmed glasses rested on his high, straight nose, softening his otherwise sharp

features.

A faint smile played at the corners of his mouth, his gaze gentle, and his demeanor indescribably refined and elegant.

He had the air of a dashing young gentleman from ancient times.

As he entered, his gentle gaze swept over everyone present.

“Hello, everyone. My name is Cole Parker. I am the newly appointed manager of your project department. As I am new here, there are still many things I am unfamiliar with. I look forward to your guidance and advice in the days ahead.”

His humble and courteous self-introduction instantly endeared him to his colleagues. Handsome and gentlemanly, he couldn’t be any better.

Alana looked at the man before her, and unconsciously, gritted her teeth.

It’s been a few months since they last saw each other.

Her head was spinning. How could it be him?!

Just a few days ago, she’d been talking about him with Eve, she never expected...

She’d thought they’d go their separate ways for the rest of their lives, never to cross paths again.

But she never expected reality to slap her in the face so quickly.

After that, Alana didn’t pay close attention to what Cole said.

Her mind remained in a daze; the clamour of the surrounding world seemed to be shut out.

Until the man left.

Until the deputy director approached her.

“Lana, go to Manager Cole’s office. You just bought him coffee, and he wants to

transfer the money to you.”

Alana replied instinctively, “Oh, okay.”

But by the time she realized it, it was already too late.

The deputy director nodded and left.

Carla excitedly grabbed her arm. “Wow, Lana, that’s great! You’re already getting up close and personal with the new manager so quickly!”

“When you go, make sure to sneak a few extra glances for me, he’s so damn

handsome!”

Alana snapped back to reality, looked at Carla, and gave a faint, wry smile. “Carla, stop messing around.”

Carla was at a loss. “Fine, fine, fine. I know you don’t go for guys and have no interest in men! But with a pretty face like yours and a figure like a goddess, it’d be such a waste not to go out and charm some men! If you were to make a move, I bet that new manager, no matter how strong his

self-control would gladly become your man!”

Alana wanted to scream.

**********

She arrived at the office door, hesitated for a moment, then knocked. “Come in.”

A soft, gentle, and refined voice came from inside.

Just as she remembered.

Her fingers trembled slightly. She took a deep breath, then pushed open the door

and walked inside.

Some people, once they’ve appeared, you just have to face them.

After all, running away won’t solve anything.

Alana walked into the office and immediately spotted the man sitting in the office chair. He had just taken off his black suit jacket and hung it over the back of the chair.

Wearing a white shirt, he looked even more clean-cut and gentle.

A pair of silver-rimmed glasses rested on the bridge of his nose, obscuring his slightly

deep-set eyes and brows.

He exuded a gentle aura, appearing completely harmless.

That face, that demeanor, it was all too deceptive.

Once, she, too, had been fooled by him.

She had thought he was truly as angelic and harmless as he appeared on the surface.

Alana withdrew her casual gaze and said, “Hello, Manager Cole. The Deputy Director

mentioned you were looking for me.”

Cole raised his gaze, his eyes darkening slightly behind his glasses.

“Manager Cole. Lana, when did things between us become so formal?”

Was he seriously asking her that question?

Cole stared intently at her, his eyes brimming with uncontrollable emotion.

“Sophia called off the wedding. Turns out she was just playing with me. I...”

“That’s not of my business.” Alana snapped.

She didn’t want to discuss anything apart from work with him. In fact, she wanted to pretend she had never met him before.

“You’ve become even more

beautiful, my love. You were beautiful before, but now... you’re so beautiful, you’re practically glowing...” Back in the elevator, he hadn’t been able to take his eyes off her.

He thought she would notice him.

But to his surprise, she didn’t even glance his way.

They’d been apart for a few months.

Once he had found out that Sophia was just playing games with him, he had wanted to return to his sweet Alana.

But he didn’t have the balls to until now.

She even blocked all his contact information, making it impossible for him to reach her. He knew it wouldn’t be easy to win her back so he tried to get this managerial position by all means.

This was a start of something new for them.

Seeing her standing before him, his heart and eyes were filled with longing for her, and the emotions he’d been holding back finally poured out.

He strongly regretted hurting her.

He had bombarded her with compliments waiting to see her blush like she always did before but she didn’t.

The girl simply said, in a calm voice, “Thank you.”

Cole’s breathing grew slightly more labored.

Thank you?

She was still the same as ever, always so polite to everyone.

As if no one could ever truly enter her heart.

“How have you been these past few months?”

Alana nodded. “Hmm, good.”

“Are you...?”

Seeing anyone...

He wanted to ask, but suddenly felt he didn’t have the right to.

The atmosphere grew strangely quiet and awkward.

The man’s unabashed gaze made Alana feel uncomfortable all over.

She paused for a moment, then spoke first,

“Manager Cole, I bought the Starbucks. I

bought twenty cups, here’s the receipt, can you transfer the money now?”

Cole nodded. “Alright. You blocked me on WhatsApp, unblock me, so I can send the receipt to you after transferring the money.”

Alana eyed him. “I’ve already deleted your number. Just send the money. No need for receipt.”
