Chapter 169: Its Here!

Sylvara could not believe she had just lied straight through her teeth to all these people.

And the more she pondered the reason why.....the more concerned she became about her current state.

The hero had held his end of the bargain, and she was again clear in her head, clearer than she’s ever been.

Sylvara felt she should be happy, fulfilled, and content that she was again free of all the ancient voices in her mind trying to draw her attention at all times.

But why does her mind keep returning to that young man? Why wasn’t she simply satisfied with the arrangement they had already made?....

Why is he all she could think about when their business with one another should be over for now?

The more she thought about it, the more concerning it became.

Saintesses, by law, must remain pure and unsullied for their entire lives, living only in the services of the goddess and the holy sea.....

But Sylvara was having such an attraction that she couldn’t quite explain towards this person she had only had one real conversation with.

She had met a lot of competent young men in the holy sea, and she’s never felt this way about any of them, and certainly never fantasised about them in such an impure and unholy manner.

Now her curiosities towards him that had been about his abilities had now transformed into one of... longing.

Sylvara wondered if it was the fact that he had been the one to offer her the salvation she had sought throughout the world of Arleria that caused the feelings to bloom so.... Or she was simply destined to stray from her duties the moment she came across this person.

Now she envied those around him....those who got to talk to him, laugh with him....be with him....while she’s constrained by the weight of her station to simply watch on in jealousy.

If only she could make him see her..... See that although he was okay with their current arrangement, she certainly was not. And she needed to show him in whichever way she could....

And these stray adventurers happen to present just that opportunity.

She not only showed him how much she was on his side with her stand, which she hopes will be a point for both of them, rekindling some communication outside the established time of her mental re-stabilization....

She also promised to take action against the incoming territory beast threat.... Which was sure to impress him if he saw her in action.

So what if she lied, and that in fact the saintess wasn’t supposed to interfere, no matter what happened on the journey? Who could verify?....

And she simply had to report on the matter the way that’s convenient for her when she arrives at the holy sea. Her report and what she decides to inform the council were all that mattered.

And nothing mattered more than what happened after she had taken a stand with Caleb.....

He had turned to her with the most enchanting smile Sylvara had ever seen, and then her winked at her.

Sylvara had felt a warm flutter in her belly that instantly overwrote all the reservations of guilt she had been having for lying to the others like that.....

He had acknowledged her... for the first time since they had that conversation.

There, she could feel the distance between them thinning slightly amidst the tense atmosphere produced by the nervous knights and heroes who were about to face their first real, life-or-death battle.

Sylvara was prepared to not only impress Caleb with her prowess when she had to step in, but she would make it a priority that Caleb was safe.

Yet.... the more she looked at him, the more she had the weird feeling that he didn’t really need her help or anyone else’s, in fact. But he was only clearly at the master realm....just like the others.

Sylvara simply added it to the growing list of special things about Caleb she’s been keeping in her head.

As Zorat rode along the rough forest terrain, he suddenly felt a presence breach the current reach of his perception as he smiled.

The doggy is here.

There was no way the heroes in their present state would be able to defeat this incoming beast without some assistance from someone more or equally strong.

Though the beast was only at the early stage of the paragon realm from Zorat’s senses, the boost to stats at a cross into such a realm from a grandmaster was already incredible; now add to that the fact that these heroes were only at the master realm.

They can certainly win fights above their level, but a single realm was the current cap.

Maybe when they start being able to use their divine skills effectively in battle, they could use their synergy in skills to go one step further.

But Zorat wasn’t actually gonna let them all die here when he still needed them alive... at least that’s true for most of them....

And that’s where Sylvara comes in.

Zorat could have actually killed this territory long right were it currently was, without having to move from his position on his horse.....

But he reasoned it as pointless, since that would end in the most boring way possible, when there was much carnage to be savored if the beast was allowed to rampage freely.

Hehehe.....how delightful.

Zorat kept the information that the beast was racing close by to himself, and not surprisingly, a while later, Sylvara picked up the movement with her own perception, alerting everyone as they prepared to engage.

All eight heroes, excluding Lilly and Caleb, got into their full group battle formation stance, with Broddy, Julia, Andrew, and Roberto in the front, followed by Ariana and Jacob at the back...

Ava had blended into the forest, and Erica was up in the trees with her bow drawn taut and ready to release.

The knights were in their squad formation as well, forming a protective shield around the saintess.

Most were tense with their hearts beating heavily as they watched all sides of the forest, unsure of where the beast would charge out from.

After waiting for an extra minute... the first thing they felt was the vibration of the ground beneath their feet as a cold chiver ran down some of their backs, before hearing the saintess utter....

"It’s here!"
