Chapter 55: Chapter 55: How Can You Be So Cute?

Xie Huaizheng looked at Jiang Shulan, his thin lips pressed into a line.

Jiang Shulan was a platoon leader. The two of them didn’t actually interact much on a daily basis.

Usually, when he needed to issue an order, it would be passed down through the company commander.

They then glanced at Xie Huaizheng.

Xie Huaizheng’s thin lips tightened. He walked over to Su Zhaozhao. "What are you doing here?"

"Sister asked me to come," Su Zhaozhao said. Zhao Shuqin wasn’t much older than her, so Su Zhaozhao sweetly called her ’sister’.

Zhao Shuqin immediately gestured with her eyes for everyone to step out into the hallway to talk.

"I was thinking, Zhaozhao is a very good talker. That car accident left me so unsettled I couldn’t sleep well for days. But after chatting with Zhaozhao for a bit today, I feel much calmer. So, I thought maybe we could let Zhaozhao talk to Jiang Shulan and see if she can console him."

Hearing this, Xie Huaizheng raised an eyebrow slightly. It seemed he hadn’t expected Su Zhaozhao to possess such an ability.

Then again, she had always been a smooth talker.

"Will that work?" Shen Qiangjun, the political commissar, said with a frown.

Even if Su Zhaozhao was a girl who was good with words, wasn’t that skill limited to talking with other girls?

Jiang Shulan’s condition was so severe. What if she said the wrong thing and worsened his psychological trauma?

Their unit had a military doctor specializing in psychology, but he happened to be away in Beijing for training and hadn’t returned yet.

Su Zhaozhao could tell he was full of doubt about her.

"Okay. I’ll go in first. Please wait outside for a moment." Su Zhaozhao pushed the door open, went inside, and closed it behind her.

The hospital rarely had private rooms, but for certain special patients, they would be provided.

When Su Zhaozhao entered, Jiang Shulan was still like a disembodied soul, not even giving her a single glance.

Su Zhaozhao opened the window a little, letting the sunlight stream in from outside.

Then, she turned to the young man lying on the hospital bed and said, "Do you remember me? That night, I was the one who dug you out from under the bus."

Her voice was soft and very pleasant to listen to.

Hearing Su Zhaozhao’s words, Jiang Shulan’s eyes moved. He finally looked away from the ceiling and toward Su Zhaozhao.

He saw the girl smiling at him, a look different from everyone else’s.

She didn’t have an expression of pity or sorrow, but a gentle, warm smile.

They waited at the door for over half an hour. Su Zhaozhao came out of the room and said to them, "Okay, his mood has stabilized a lot. You can give him something to eat now."

"Really?" Zhou Hongwei found it hard to believe, but he immediately had someone arrange for it.

Sure enough, when he brought the food in, Jiang Shulan, though silent, began to eat.

Outside the room, everyone who witnessed this scene was deeply shocked.
