Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Looking for My Fiancé
「June 1982.」
The train swayed and rattled as it made its way toward West State.
Su Zhaozhao was just about to close her eyes when a knife was pressed against her neck. The next instant, she was yanked to her feet.
"Nobody move! If any of you come closer, I’ll kill her!" a man’s vicious voice roared from behind her.
A commotion erupted among the surrounding passengers. A man holding a gun aimed it at her captor. "Let the woman go!"
"Stop the train now! I want to get off, or I swear I’ll take one of you down with me!" the man shrieked, his voice crazed.
Seeing this, the gunman could only turn to the person beside him and say, "This is bad. He’s too cunning. Go get Brother Zheng."
The man holding her was a serial killer who had murdered ten people over the last three years.
They had planned to move in after learning of his whereabouts.
The original plan was a covert operation. They were going to arrest him when the train reached the station.
But he had somehow discovered them.
The entire train car had been evacuated, leaving only Su Zhaozhao and the man.
The sharp blade quickly broke Su Zhaozhao’s skin.
Su Zhaozhao felt a faint sting on her neck and frowned.
’This is so annoying,’ she thought. ’It’s been a week since I transmigrated into this book, and I haven’t had a single day of peace.’
’Is it because I transmigrated into the body of a villainess that I’m always so unlucky?’
’There were so many people in this car, but of course, I had to be the unlucky one. Taken hostage by this scumbag, and he even cut my skin!’
Su Zhaozhao started to cry. "Please, let me go! I’m innocent! SOB... SOB..."
The girl’s fragile voice echoed through the train car, a sound that would move anyone who heard it.
But the man holding her only grew more excited. "Shut up! Believe it or not, I’ll kill you right now!"
After his threat, the woman in his arms cried even harder.
He loved seeing women scared. His previous ten victims were just like this girl—delicate and pretty, with pleasant-sounding screams.
Their struggles right before death excited him the most.
Heh...
’Their fragile necks... so easy to snap with just a little pressure. So much fun.’
But he didn’t notice that Su Zhaozhao was only putting on a show. There wasn’t a single tear in her eyes.
Nor had her face turned deathly pale with fright. On the contrary, she was perfectly calm.
She just wanted to lower his guard before moving on to the next step of her plan.
Suddenly, however, Su Zhaozhao felt something hard pressing against her.
It was the man’s groin; he had become aroused.
Su Zhaozhao silently cursed the man and his entire family tree.
She had been a criminal psychology expert in her past life, so she naturally understood this man’s psyche.
She just hadn’t expected him to be even more depraved than the average killer.
’He can get a physical reaction while being held at gunpoint?’
’He must have killed quite a few people before this, right?’
Luckily, when she transmigrated, she’d brought a pocket dimension with her.
It was housed in an inconspicuous bracelet.
She could enter the dimension by touching the bracelet. If she thought about taking something out of it and touched the bracelet, the item would appear.
Right now, Su Zhaozhao was silently summoning a knife from her dimension.
The dimension didn’t contain many supplies yet. It had an upgrade system; the longer she spent in this world, the higher its level would become, and the more abundant its resources would be.
For now, it only had some basic items, but this one knife was enough.
No one noticed Su Zhaozhao’s actions.
Just then, Xie Huaizheng and the others rushed over.
"Battalion Commander, the man is incredibly sharp. We have no idea how we tipped him off. Now he’s using a hostage to threaten us. If we don’t let him go, he’ll kill her."
Thinking of the fragile-looking young woman, Xiao Yuanming couldn’t help but sigh.
’I hope nothing happens to her!’
"It’s not your fault. For him to kill for three consecutive years and only be caught today, he must be very smart," Xie Huaizheng said.
This was a mission that had been assigned to them at the last minute by their superiors.
Originally, this should have been a matter for the police. However, because the target was so vicious and depraved, the police were worried about complications and requested a joint operation with the military.
As they spoke, they arrived outside the train car.
The car was sealed off. Inside were only the man and one of his accomplices.
The man was now gripping the girl in front of him tightly. "Still haven’t told the driver to stop the train? You, stay away from me, or I’ll kill her!"
The girl in his arms was as fragile as a wilting flower bud.
When he tightened his grip, she immediately let out a trembling scream, looking utterly terrified.
Xie Huaizheng stepped inside and said to the man, "Zhang Ming, let’s talk."
"There’s nothing to talk about! Either you let me go, or I’ll die and take this woman with me. You wouldn’t sacrifice an innocent civilian, would you?" Zhang Ming sneered.
Xie Huaizheng’s brow furrowed. His hand, resting behind his back, was about to reach for his gun.
His marksmanship was the best in his unit. Even with a hostage in the way, he could make the shot.
At such a close distance, he was confident he could guarantee the hostage’s safety.
’But it would probably scare the young lady,’ he thought.
Suddenly, his eyes caught a flash of silver in the girl’s hand.
Xie Huaizheng froze. ’She actually...!’
「The next moment.」
"AHHH—" Zhang Ming’s bloodcurdling scream rang out.
Su Zhaozhao’s dagger was embedded in Zhang Ming’s crotch.
As the man screamed, blood gushed out instantly.
The man, who had been so arrogant moments before, was now flushed crimson with pain.
Xie Huaizheng seized the opportunity, rushing forward and kicking the man to the ground.
The soldiers who had been waiting outside the car swarmed in and apprehended Zhang Ming.
Seeing Zhang Ming pinned down and bleeding profusely, Xie Huaizheng ordered someone to call for a doctor to treat him.
Then, he turned and walked toward Su Zhaozhao.
Only now did he have a moment to size her up. The girl before him looked to be around twenty years old.
She was stunningly beautiful, with delicate, fair skin and exquisite, lively features. Her slender frame made her look like a porcelain doll.
’Who would have thought she was capable of doing something like that just now?’
"Miss, are you all right?" Xie Huaizheng asked her.
Of course, judging by Su Zhaozhao’s calm demeanor, Xie Huaizheng knew she was perfectly fine.
Su Zhaozhao shook her head. She glanced at the man before her—he was tall with long legs, his handsome face cold and sharp, exuding a heroic air.
But when he stared at someone, his eyes were as sharp as knives.
’He’s definitely handsome, but he’s also definitely cold.’
Her gaze returned to the man on the floor. "You should probably stop his bleeding. I... severed it."
He could die if it’s serious.
Xie Huaizheng: "..."
Su Zhaozhao was taken to give a statement.
"Miss, what’s your name, where are you from, and where are you headed?" a police officer asked Su Zhaozhao. They had all heard about her recent actions.
No one could have imagined that such a delicate-looking girl could strike so fast, precisely, and ruthlessly.
The man she attacked was a murderer who had killed ten people!
Even they had to remain vigilant when facing him.
"My name is Su Zhaozhao. I’m from Jiang City, and I’m going to the Northwest Military Region to find my fiancé."
"The Northwest Military Region? What a coincidence, that’s where we’re based!" Xiao Yuanming immediately exclaimed.
As soon as he finished speaking, the Battalion Commander, who was smoking nearby, shot him a warning glare, and Xiao Yuanming shut his mouth.
But Su Zhaozhao’s face lit up. "Then you must know my fiancé, right? Coincidentally, I’ve never met him either."
The girl was bright and beautiful, her dark eyes fixed on him. Xiao Yuanming’s cheeks turned red, and he scratched his hair. "What’s your fiancé’s name? We might know him."
"His name is Xie... Huai..." ’What was it again?’ she thought. ’Damn it, I can never remember the main characters’ names when I read novels. They all sound so similar.’
’And I only listened to this book as an audiobook, so I only vaguely remember two words of his name.’
Who would have known that as soon as Su Zhaozhao said those two words, everyone’s gaze would fall on the cold-faced man.
"Is it... Xie Huaizheng?" Xiao Yuanming asked, forcing himself to say the name.
"I think that’s it!" Su Zhaozhao felt that had to be correct.
