Chapter 70: I Hate Pretty Women
Natalia gasped and pursed her lips. She then glared at Houston. For the first time in their conversation, she glared and wiped off her smile. Next to her, the man frowned.
Summer swiftly took in their body language without moving her eyes. She gasped in surprise this time. "I’m so sorry for my reaction. I thought Mr Fenneck was the love of your life, way worth more than all the sins you must commit to be with him. So you still left him..."
"Shut up! Who are you anyway?" Natalia glared at Houston again. "You gossiped about me with your... what? Little helpers?"
"Little helpers?" Summer feigned a flinch and glanced at Houston. She smiled kindly at Natalia. "I’m really sorry for the misunderstanding, Mrs Fenneck... but you know... Houston survived you. The most he can do is to learn how to trust a woman again.
"Right... I’m Summer, Houston’s girlfriend! It’s nice to put a face on a name. Though... I did stop hearing about you after I kissed him."
Natalia wanted to slap that hand Summer extended. However, when she heard the last bit, she now wanted to tear it off Summer’s pretty arm. She huffed. "Humph, so what? You think he will stop thinking about me because of you?"
Summer smiled more deeply. She stood beside Houston and pressed her body against him. "Honey, can you remember the last time you said her name?"
"I..." Houston blushed at the sudden intimate contact. He used a vacant hand to push up his glasses. "You... don’t have to waste time on her... honey. You’re already starving, aren’t you? I found your favorite."
"Really?" Summer released Houston, and he just collected a few premium dishes. The intern looked at Natalia, who was instantly ignored. She smiled and mouthed, "He no longer cares about you. Right now, he was only bothered by your presence."
She used a hand to shoo Natalia and her new boyfriend. Her plump, smooth reddish lips moved alluringly as she mouthed more words: "Go home."
With a huff, Natalia laughed. "You think you can treat me like a dog? Watch me make you suffer, you insolent bitch!"
Natalia swiped to grab the juice, but Summer’s hand was faster. She easily claimed the juice and splashed it wholly at Natalia’s face. She even feigned a gasp at the matter. "Oh, no! Your dress! You shouldn’t have tried to help me with my drink, Mrs Fenneck!"
"You!" Natalia wanted to jump at her next, but Summer’s voice was so loud. It was even loud enough to make people look over.
The woman couldn’t help but feel humiliated. The yellow juice would surely stain her white dress, and it also got on her hair and face. If she didn’t wash off her professionally done hair and makeup, the juice would make them sticky. Moreover, the juice made her red bra apparent under her white bodice.
She could only glare at that manufactured pity on Summer’s face. Natalia pointed at Summer’s face. "This isn’t over! I will destroy you and your career! Your workplace will burn to the ground!"
Summer smiled for a moment and chuckled, using the tray to cover her laugh. "You will do that? Okay...! Should I take that as a real threat to my workplace?"
"Why not? You think my words are empty? Bitch! I will make your boss kneel!"
"...you... forgot where I work, didn’t you...?" Houston scoffed as he finished filling up the tray for food. He just walked in between them, duly fetching Summer away from that woman. "Let’s not be close to where she stands, darling. Mr Wentworth doesn’t like threats coming his way. He will surely shoot them all down."
Natalia flinched, her hand retracted to her body. "Mr Wentworth...? You still work there? A criminal like you has no business handling Mr Wentworth’s affairs!"
Houston huffed, not spending another second in Natalia’s vicinity. "Think what you will. I’m no longer affiliated with you."
Before Natalia could say something more, chatter already ensued. Eyes looked at the woman doused with juice. The noises around her infuriated her, but she could only stomp and leave. Her new boyfriend didn’t even know whether to stay close to her anymore.
On their way back to their table, Summer looked at Houston. "Are you okay? Sorry, Luellen figured you’d need our help. Madam Henny also told us we shouldn’t leave you alone in times like that. Are you mad at me?"
"Am I?" Houston only chuckled, even in a self-ridiculing way Summer had never heard him do before. He lowered his gaze. "I’m ecstatic...! Did you see her face?"
"I’m glad you’re happy we struck back!" Summer giggled, lowering the tray. "Don’t worry about her anymore. I will play ’girlfriend’ as long as needed."
Houston slid his dark eyes at her, his lips curling in a deep smile. "She will surely keep an eye on us while we’re here. How much playing girlfriend are you willing to do? Does it include staying over?"
Summer turned to him with an equally playful smile. "Not when Mr Piers asked first. Remember, he’s still our ride back home."
Houston dropped his smile. "I hate pretty women."
...
If Leander could share Houston’s annoyance, he would be vocal about it. Then again, it couldn’t be helped. Even Luellen wouldn’t want her friend any closer to that Piers guy.
Tonight, Leander was hoping to have some time alone with Luellen. However, Piers kept dropping hints of getting Summer into his hotel room. The intern could only point at Leander and lie about needing to supplement their work while on this trip. That was why, tonight, Leander’s employees were in his hotel room.
The CEO tapped impatiently on the floor, where he sat. He joined Luellen on the cozy rug while watching a movie. Of course, since Beckett could watch, he joined in. Houston had to be there for the lie, so he couldn’t sulk longer.
Summer and Luellen chatted in hushed voices about the movie. However, since Luellen was leaning against Leander, he could hear them perfectly.
Bedtime...
"...this isn’t how I envisioned the night..." Leander hummed, whispering into Luellen’s head. He spooned her away from everyone’s sight. He even had the blanket wrapped around them like they were a burrito.
It was the most he could do. Leander didn’t care if Houston stuffed seven pillows between him and Summer on the other double bed they asked for. The two girls could easily share, but Leander didn’t relent on not having Luellen beside him tonight. As for Beckett, he had to leave and sleep in that room with accommodations for his teacup.
"We have a lot of chances." Luellen blushed at the breath brushing against her head and neck. "Maybe when we don’t have anyone trying to get in bed with Summer..."
Leander chuckled, caressing Luellen’s abdomen under her pajama top. "I doubt it. She knows how to make use of her face to get what she wants."
