Chapter 985: Chapter 985: Meeting the Parents
Sheng Tang wasn’t sure what it meant to be back together.
Two adults dating as innocently as she and Gu Shiting, it really did feel like playing house.
"I suppose it counts," Sheng Tang gave her brother a definite answer.
She and Gu Shiting were back together, after all.
"That’s great!" Sheng Zong beamed, "Now I don’t have to worry about you anymore."
"Worry about what?"
"Worry about you being alone in the future," Sheng Zong replied.
After a pause, Sheng Zong added, "For now, don’t tell Mom. I think she wouldn’t be able to accept it."
"I know."
"Wouldn’t Brother Ting have any complaints? You have a contracted boyfriend, but he can’t show his face," Sheng Zong asked.
"He won’t," Sheng Tang replied.
Sheng Zong thought for a moment and agreed that Gu Shiting probably wouldn’t.
Their breakup was Gu Shiting’s fault; her grandmother’s death was because of his car accident. Given the circumstances now, he should be able to handle it.
"Sis, I hope the two of you get married," Sheng Zong said, "One day, tell Mom and Dad, and they can bless you both."
Sheng Tang smiled bitterly.
As they were talking about Gu Shiting, Sheng Tang’s phone rang—it was Gu Shiting calling.
"Where are you?" Gu Shiting asked.
Sheng Tang: "In the car, almost home, Zong is driving me."
"New Year’s Eve is almost here. Brother Zhou might be spending it alone this year, Qin Lin was taken back by his family and can’t come out on New Year’s Eve. What about you? Can you find an excuse to get out? The three of us could have dinner together," Gu Shiting suggested.
Sheng Tang: "..."
She was still pondering how to tell Gu Shiting about it.
Now was a good opportunity.
She shared Gu Jiahui’s request with Gu Shiting.
Gu Shiting was silent for a long time.
"It’s just a meal, I’ll leave after dinner, then meet you and Brother Zhou. How about that?" Sheng Tang said, "You can just think of it as me going for a business dinner."
Sheng Zong laughed beside her.
Gu Shiting seemed comforted by her words.
"Alright then. I’ll first take Brother Zhou to my place for New Year’s dinner. Then we’ll meet at his apartment to see in the New Year. How’s that?" Gu Shiting asked.
Sheng Tang: "Sounds good."
Before they knew it, New Year’s Eve had arrived.
The movie White Snake was also premiering at midnight, competing with seven major films. It lost in terms of word-of-mouth even before it aired, only getting a 9% screening rate.
Originally supposed to open simultaneously in eight thousand theaters, it had now shrunk by half.
This was quite a blow to the film.
On New Year’s Eve, Sheng Tang still went back home to have lunch with her parents, then visited her grandfather’s villa in the afternoon.
A little after five in the afternoon, Gu Jiahui went to her grandfather’s villa to pick her up and take her to the Gu Family’s villa.
Sheng Tang finally met Gu You.
She often saw Gu You on TV or magazines, but this was her first time meeting him in person.
Gu You was on the slim side, with sharp eyes, exuding a sense of authority.
Gu Jiahui and Gu You didn’t resemble each other much; his looks were mostly inherited from his mother.
Mrs. Gu hadn’t come downstairs.
"Hello, Uncle," Sheng Tang greeted him.
Gu You nodded slightly and invited her to sit.
Gu Jiahui said, "I’ll go bring Mom down, Sheng Tang, you sit for now."
Sheng Tang agreed.
Gu You then chatted a bit with Sheng Tang, asking if she had any insights into running a company.
Sheng Tang was good at dealing with all kinds of people, and besides, she had done her share of armchair strategizing, so she casually chatted with Gu You.
Gu You’s demeanor remained very serious throughout; Sheng Tang’s words didn’t please him.
Later he said, "You don’t truly understand business; you’re pretending to know more than you do."
Sheng Tang: "..."
She couldn’t remember a more awkward moment.
Gu Jiahui was nowhere to be seen.
"But it’s alright, you’re quite clever. You should be open to learning in the future," Gu You added, "Do you and Jiahuai have any plans?"
