It rained the next morning.
Sheng Tang took a travel bag, packed with the clothes given to her by the Gu Family, the bag from Gu Shiyan, and the gifts from Gu Shiting, including the bracelet worth over a million.
"Dad, I’m going to the Gu Family to return these things to Gu Shiting." Sheng Tang softly said to her father, who was busy in the kitchen.
Her father had noticeably lost weight these days.
He had learned to cook some simple dishes, though he often added too much or too little salt, they were fresh and healthy.
He was stir-frying some side dishes for porridge and glanced back at Sheng Tang.
He seemed to want to say something.
However, last night when Sheng Tang said not to drive her out, Sheng Sidong understood her meaning.
Between Gu Shiting and her family, she chose her family.
"Be careful on the way." Sheng Sidong whispered.
Sheng Tang went out.
Fang Mengying came out of the room, her steps unsteady, and glanced at the kitchen.
She might have cried too much, her face was swollen, and she had no strength today.
She watched for a long time until Sheng Sidong finished the side dishes and turned to look at her.
"Why did you come out?" Sheng Sidong hurriedly went to support her, "Are you hungry?"
He helped her to sit at the dining table and turned to get some porridge.
Fang Mengying suddenly asked, "Did I hit Tangtang yesterday?"
Sheng Sidong’s steps halted.
He wanted to say something, but Fang Mengying had already covered her face and started crying.
"Why didn’t you stop me?"
Sheng Sidong was speechless for a moment.
In the years to come, she would often be like this, suddenly lose her temper, and then regret it, feeling unbearable pain.
When Sheng Tang arrived at the Gu Family, it was only nine in the morning.
Everyone in the Gu Family was at home.
Because of Gu Shiting’s lawsuit, none of them had gone out recently.
This matter troubled everyone in the Gu Family because Gu Shiting was determined to serve his time in prison. He had made a mistake and wanted to take responsibility himself.
He didn’t want Sheng Tang to hate him.
Rational people, however, knew what it meant for him to go to prison, and his fear of the dark had yet to be cured.
Both the Sheng Family was under dark clouds, and the Gu Family was in a bleak and rainy state; in short, life was hard.
Sheng Tang’s sudden arrival surprised everyone.
Mrs. Gu felt a slight glimmer of hope rise in her heart.
Gu Shiting, however, was staring intently at the travel bag in Sheng Tang’s hand.
Sheng Tang let her hair down, wearing a very ordinary white t-shirt and light-colored jeans.
Her hair covered her left cheek, but it was still visible that her eyes were red and swollen.
Sheng Tang handed the travel bag to a maid, asking her to take it upstairs. The maid thought it was her luggage and that she was moving in for a few days, so she quickly took it.
Sheng Tang sat down on the sofa.
She took out the letter of understanding signed by her father.
"My dad gave this." Sheng Tang’s voice was very low, avoiding eye contact.
Mrs. Gu took it, her hands trembling.
She wanted to be happy but tried to suppress it. She wanted to thank Sheng Tang but, looking up, noticed the redness and swelling on her left cheek, as if it was a slap mark.
Gu Shiting had already seen it.
He sat beside her and lifted her face, "Who hit you?"
His voice was trembling.
Sheng Tang pushed his hand away and said only to Gu Shiting, "Auntie, does this work?"
"Yes." Mrs. Gu quickly answered, "Tangtang..."
Sheng Tang stood up.
She said to Mrs. Gu, "I want to speak with Ting. Can we go for a walk?"
Mrs. Gu nodded.
Mr. Gu and Gu Shiyan had been watching silently.
As she and Gu Shiting walked out of the villa, Gu Shiyan suddenly said, "It’s over."
Smart people could see that Sheng Tang was here to sever all ties with the Gu Family.
The travel bag she brought surely contained all the things given by the Gu Family.
