Jiang Baocu was crying uncontrollably.
Sheng Tang comforted her for a while.
When they returned to the classroom, she was still sobbing. Yan Jinzhi wondered what happened and turned back to ask.
"It’s nothing. She had a stomachache, but she’s almost better after taking some medicine," Sheng Tang said.
Yan Jinzhi said no more.
They didn’t tell anyone about it.
First, they’re both students with limited capabilities; second, the matter is serious. If it escalates, they wouldn’t be able to handle it.
Gu Shiting instructed, "I’ll have someone investigate. Don’t make a fuss about it. Just act like you know nothing. Even if something happens, it won’t implicate you."
No one linked Lu Yuanyuan’s death to Sheng Tang.

But Sheng Tang felt she was close to uncovering something.

After Jiang Baocu calmed down, she said despondently, "Sheng Tang, if something like this happened to me, I would also commit suicide."
Sheng Tang gently held her hand.
Gu Shiting did not attend classes that afternoon.

"Don’t worry about the source for now," Gu Shiting said. "This is our family’s business. Shouldn’t you send someone to investigate?"
Mr. Gu broke out in cold sweat. "Don’t act rashly. Wait until I get back home."
Song Chen sat next to Gu Shiting, listening to the call with a heavy heart.

"Young Master, if it’s true... Lu Yuanyuan’s father might have benefitted. He was recently promoted, though it’s just a small team leader position," Song Chen said.
This was something Song Chen casually found out while investigating Lu Yuanyuan’s suicide case.
He knew a lot, but filtered out irrelevant information automatically.
He had never thought that a father’s promotion would be related to his daughter’s suicide; this was beyond his comprehension.
"Just like a scenario from a novel," Gu Shiting’s face grew darker.
Not just the students; even Mr. Gu, who had seen much of the world, felt nauseated hearing this and had an impulse to kill.
Huishi High School wasn’t short of funds; board members donated money yearly, and the group allowed profits, purely for the sake of education.
If this were true, it would likely be an individual’s actions, not the group’s.
Mr. Gu hurried back four hours later.
"The news must not leak. Education issues are a hot topic now. A scandal might ruin Huishi High School," Mr. Gu said. "I’m not concerned about personal positions, but I pity those kids..."
After years of hard study, if something happened to the school and they had to bear the public’s accusations, wouldn’t that be unjust?
If the school’s reputation were tarnished, it would be impossible to clean up. Outsiders would likely speak of it with various filthy slanders.
The innocent students shouldn’t have to carry this burden.
"Song Chen, you need to get to the school as soon as possible and take up the position of Vice Principal. I’ll smooth things over with the Education Bureau," Mr. Gu said. "I want this investigated thoroughly before this summer holiday. I know you have methods, use them all."
They would discreetly identify the perpetrator and then figure out how to handle him and bring justice to the harmed students.
Song Chen complied.
Gu Shiting relayed his father’s decision to Sheng Tang.
Sheng Tang listened and nodded. "That’s doable, not alarming the perpetrator is also a good approach."
Song Chen soon officially assumed his new position at the school.
