Chapter 435: Chapter 435: Gu Jiahui’s Birthday

Sheng Tang and Dai Ning had dinner and returned home.

Gu Shiting called her.

"Did you go to my sister’s company?" Gu Shiting asked, feeling a bit frustrated.

Why didn’t she invite him to go along?

Sheng Tang laughed, "Yes, I needed some help from Sister Feifei."

She told him about the arrangement for preparing a song.

"Are you going to sing ’Marshmallow’?" Gu Shiting asked.

This song, Sheng Tang had sung to him several times. He had no idea it was brought from another world by her and had tried to search it online multiple times, but couldn’t find it.

However, he didn’t think it was his exclusive song since Sheng Tang was capable of much more.

"Yes," Sheng Tang said, "It’s a pretty good song, quite suitable for singing at school."

Gu Shiting nodded.

For the first time, he looked forward to the school opening ceremony.

It was his second semester of senior year. He had never attended the previous five opening ceremonies.

This time, he decided to attend.

While they were talking, Sheng Tang’s phone beeped, indicating another call was coming in.

She glanced at the screen; it was Gu Jiahui.

Sheng Tang wasn’t interested in him, so she ignored it and continued chatting with Gu Shiting.

Half an hour later, Gu Shiting hung up the phone.

Five minutes later, Sheng Tang’s phone rang again.

Gu Jiahui was calling her.

She answered.

"Tangtang, can you come to your door?" Gu Jiahui’s voice carried a smile, "I want to see you."

Sheng Tang found it odd, "Really? But I don’t want to see you."

Gu Jiahui chuckled again.

He was silent for a few seconds, then spoke into the phone, "Tangtang, today is my birthday. I want someone to have cake with me. Will you come?"

Sheng Tang wasn’t touched at all, knowing his cunning nature.

He had friends at school and his family was wealthy. There was no way he could be desperate enough to plead to her.

Sheng Tang wasn’t going to pity the snake-like Gu Jiahui. She yawned, "Happy birthday and good night."

Even her well-wishes sounded forced.

After she hung up, Gu Jiahui sat in his car, silent for a long time.

His car was parked in the empty spot at the entrance of the Sheng Family District, the same place he had parked last time when he sent Sheng Tang home.

He sat there dazed for a few minutes, then took a small cake from the back seat.

Lighting a candle, he spoke to the dim flame, "Happy birthday to me!"

He wasn’t seeking pity.

His cousin had started a project out of town with his mentor at the beginning of the school term; Sun Lanlan, the flower seller, had gone on a trip, and her shop was closed. At school, he never considered his classmates as kindred spirits or friends.

He had nowhere to go.

With a faint sliver of hope, he came to see Sheng Tang, but she rebuffed him harshly.

He silently watched the flickering flame, making his birthday wish alone, "May my dreams come true."

After the candle went out, Gu Jiahui took out a small spoon and started eating the cake, bite by bite.

The cake was sweet, almost making him tear up from the sweetness.

He ate a few bites alone, then got out of the car and threw away the rest.

Nothing is eternal, only loneliness is.

Gu Jiahui got back into his car and drove away from Sheng Tang’s neighborhood, not calling her again to bother her.

Sheng Tang hated him and feared him, he knew, it was his own fault.

At this moment, at home, Sheng Tang was trying to sleep but images from the horror movie she watched last night still haunted her mind. Turning off the light made her uncomfortable all over.

"Sister Feifei really did me in this time," she murmured.

She got up to do her homework.

She worked until past 2 AM, completely exhausted, before finally collapsing into sleep, having a dreamless night until morning. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Having slept too late, Sheng Tang was late to school, missing the morning reading session and was stopped by the homeroom teacher at the classroom door.
