Chapter 54: Hospital.
Kyle rushed to Jane without hesitation, his heart pounding as he hailed a cab to take him directly to her. There was no time to waste driving home to grab the keys to his car. The urgency in Jane’s voice during the call had left him deeply unsettled, and all he could think about was getting to her as quickly as possible.
By the time Kyle arrived, the ambulance had already taken Ella to the hospital. He didn’t know the full details of what had happened, but Jane’s cries over the phone had left him feeling anxious—more anxious than when Calista had broken down in tears. Perhaps it was the gravity of the situation, or maybe it was the sincerity in Jane’s voice that struck a chord within him.
Kyle stepped into the hospital’s waiting room and immediately spotted Jane sitting alone, her face pale and her hands trembling. "Jane, are you alright?" he asked gently.
The moment Jane saw him, all her attempts to remain composed crumbled. She burst into tears and threw her arms around him, hugging him tightly. Kyle instinctively wrapped his arms around her, holding her close as she sobbed uncontrollably into his chest. He didn’t need to say a word—his presence alone provided the comfort she desperately needed.
Kyle gently stroked her hair and whispered soothingly, "Breathe in, breathe out. Let it all out." Jane clung to him, her tears flowing freely as if a broken faucet had been left unchecked.
It took nearly five minutes for Jane to regain some semblance of control. She stepped back, her bloodshot eyes a testament to the depth of her emotions. "I-I’m so sorry for calling you here," she stammered. "I didn’t know who else to call."
Kyle felt a sense of warmth wash over him at her words. Knowing he was the first person she thought of in her time of need reminded him of how much he meant to her. "I would have been mad if you didn’t call me," he said, his tone reassuring. "I’ll always be here for you, Jane."
[Update in Affection Bar!]
[Jane’s Affection: 100%!]
The cyan screen popped up in Kyle’s mind, notifying him that he had maxed out Jane’s affection bar in less than a week. The accomplishment filled him with satisfaction—not because he needed to win her over anymore, but because it meant he had earned her trust completely.
"T-Thank you so much," Jane whimpered, her voice still shaky.
She couldn’t help but notice how Kyle looked even more attractive in this moment of kindness, but she didn’t say a word. She simply felt lucky that someone like him cared enough to come to her aid.
Before Kyle could say more, a doctor approached them, his expression neutral yet professional. "Miss Ella is stable," the doctor informed them. "However, the substances in her system are highly prohibited, so we are required to notify the police as per protocol."
Jane’s body tensed at the mention of the police. Kyle immediately noticed her discomfort and realized this was not something she wanted to happen. "Doctor, may I have a moment with you?" Kyle asked, his tone calm but firm.
The doctor nodded and stepped aside with Kyle, leaving Jane to process what she had just heard. Kyle wasted no time, asking the doctor to explain the situation in full detail.
"Ella does drugs?" Kyle thought to himself, surprised by the revelation. He didn’t know much about her, but he wasn’t one to judge without understanding the circumstances. He had seen how drugs had ruined countless lives, particularly among celebrities. If Ella had a predisposition to addiction, it could jeopardize her future and dreams.
"I think there’s been a misunderstanding," Kyle began diplomatically. "I can vouch for her. Whatever is in her system must be some kind of mix-up."
The doctor shook his head, remaining adamant. "That may be the case, but I cannot break protocol. I’m afraid the authorities must be informed."
Kyle sighed, realizing that involving the police would only complicate matters. "I understand your position, and I appreciate your diligence," he said. "But could I have a little time with her before you make the call? I don’t want her to be blindsided when the police arrive—it could create an unnecessary scene, and that wouldn’t be good for anyone involved."
The doctor considered Kyle’s request before nodding reluctantly. "Very well, you have five minutes," he agreed.
"Ten," Kyle countered, his tone firm enough to make it clear he wouldn’t back down.
The doctor sighed but conceded. "Very well, ten minutes."
Kyle thanked him before returning to Jane, who had been watching their conversation closely. Taking her hand in his, he gently told her the truth—that Ella had drugs in her system. Jane didn’t look surprised, which told Kyle this wasn’t new information to her.
"Follow me," Kyle said softly, his voice a calming anchor in the storm of emotions swirling around them.
Kyle knew he had to act quickly. If Ella were arrested or forcibly placed in rehab, it could devastate her—and by extension, Jane. While rehab might be the best-case scenario for battling addiction, Kyle had a feeling Ella’s situation wasn’t so black and white.
When they entered Ella’s room, she looked shocked but also deeply embarrassed to see Kyle. "What are you doing here?" she asked, glancing between him and Jane.
Jane avoided Ella’s gaze, guilt written all over her face.
"It’s okay," Kyle said, his voice steady. "I came to tell you that the doctor is planning to call the police."
Ella’s eyes widened in panic, and Jane gasped. But before they could spiral into full-blown anxiety, Kyle quickly added, "There’s no need to panic. The doctor can’t legally report you to the police just because he found drugs in your system—it would violate doctor-patient confidentiality."
"But he said he would call the police," Jane reminded him, her voice trembling.
"He’s bluffing," Kyle reassured them. "If he were serious, he wouldn’t have told us in advance. I’ll handle it."
Ella looked into Kyle’s eyes and saw no judgment, only a determination to help. She felt a mix of gratitude and shame, knowing he was going out of his way to protect her despite everything.
Kyle sighed inwardly. This wasn’t how he had planned to spend his day, but it was an opportunity to solidify his bond with both women. Ella deserved a chance to fight her demons without being condemned, and Jane needed someone to lean on during this trying time.
"They’ve been through so much," Kyle thought, vowing to do whatever it took to help them navigate this crisis.
A/N: I know, I know. We all want to see our MC conquer women and get his cock wet but how about we flesh out the story a little?
Hang in there with me, I’m trying to give the characters some sort of depth.
Invaluable in the long run.
