Chapter 933: A Closed Door
Chapter 933 – A Closed Door
Solara leaned back, eyes sharp. "The King of Hell may be targeting us." Her voice was warm in tone, but there was no warmth in the meaning. "That alone is enough reason."
Lux looked at her for a moment.
Then nodded.
"Yes."
Celestaria’s hands folded neatly on the table.
"For the time being, all official meetings with the Infernal Realm will be postponed until further notice."
The council reacted immediately.
Murmurs.
Sharp looks.
One quiet inhale.
A few exchanged glances.
Celestaria did not raise her voice.
The room quieted around her authority.
"This includes royal envoys, house representatives not already bound to approved contracts, and any newly proposed diplomatic delegations from the Infernal Throne."
Lux’s eyes narrowed.
That was big.
Bigger than most of the council seemed to realize at first.
Postponing all meetings meant Kaelmor’s announcement had just been met with a closed door.
Not publicly.
But functionally.
The king could claim authority over negotiations all he wanted.
He would find no table waiting.
Celestaria continued, "Existing contract-bound channels will remain under private review. No public statement will be issued."
Lux nodded once.
Smart.
No public humiliation.
No ammunition for Kaelmor.
Just quiet obstruction.
Elegant. Celestial. Brutal.
He approved.
Vizreel leaned forward. "And everything discussed here remains secret."
His gaze swept over the council.
Not asking.
Commanding.
"No private summaries. No faction briefings. No spiritual impressions passed through unofficial channels. No ’concerned’ conversations with old allies. No leaks disguised as prayers."
Several council members stiffened.
Lux’s gaze flicked to the one who had avoided eye contact earlier.
That one looked uncomfortable.
Celestaria’s voice softened, but somehow became more dangerous. "This meeting is dismissed."
The room moved slowly at first.
Chairs shifted.
Robes whispered.
Council members rose with varying degrees of grace, discomfort, and restrained panic.
Lux stayed seated.
Because Celestaria had not moved.
Vizreel had not moved.
Selena and Solara had not moved either.
Meaning the real meeting had not ended.
It had merely shed witnesses.
One by one, the council exited through tall arched doors. Some glanced at Lux as they passed. Suspicion. Curiosity. Fear. One looked almost grateful, which was surprising and therefore suspicious. Lux filed that away too.
When the last council member reached the doorway, Solara moved.
Not dramatically.
She simply stepped into the hall beside them.
Selena followed.
The doors did not close immediately.
Lux heard Solara’s voice outside.
Warm.
Polite.
Absolutely lethal.
"Honored council members, a brief reminder."
Selena’s voice followed, softer. "Confidentiality seals will now be applied."
Someone protested quietly.
Solara laughed.
A sweet sound.
Terrifying.
"Oh, don’t worry. They won’t hurt unless you try to break them."
Lux looked at Vizreel.
Vizreel looked back.
"I like them," Lux said.
Vizreel grunted. "They are useful."
"That’s a very affectionate description."
"It is the highest form of praise I currently have available."
Celestaria finally stood.
The light around her shifted with her, smooth and composed.
She looked at Lux. "Lunch, Mr. Vaelthorn?"
Lux paused.
Mr. Vaelthorn.
That felt weird.
He looked at her.
Then at Vizreel, who had also stood.
Then at the doors where Selena and Solara were ensuring no one left with a loose mouth.
Lux understood.
Lunch did not mean lunch.
Lunch meant the actual meeting.
Private.
Smaller.
Sharper.
With fewer decorative liabilities.
He stood and adjusted the white robe over his dark clothes. "Yes." His smile returned. "Lunch sounds lovely."
Vizreel huffed. "It won’t be."
Lux glanced at him. "No coffee?"
"No coffee."
"Then obviously not."
Celestaria turned toward a side doorway, and the wall opened into a smaller corridor lined with floating script and soft gold light.
Lux followed.
Vizreel walked beside him, heavy silence wrapped around his shoulders.
Behind them, the main meeting room doors closed with a soft divine seal.
Lux felt it lock.
Not around him.
Around the room.
He walked into Celestaria’s private office, already thinking three moves ahead.
Kaelmor had tried to seize the board.
Celestaria had quietly removed the pieces.
Solara and Selena were sealing witnesses.
Vizreel had accepted the threat.
And Lux?
Lux had just managed to keep cooperation alive without publicly becoming Heaven’s favorite demon traitor.
The office doors closed behind them.
Celestaria gestured toward the table.
There was tea.
Lux stared at it. Then slowly looked at Celestaria and sighed. "Cruelty really does wear white."
Celestaria did not look offended.
She simply sat across from him in her private office, hands folded with that terrifying calm therapist-goddess posture, the kind that made Lux feel like his entire personality was being quietly itemized for future review.
The office itself was warmer than the main council room, though only slightly. Less official glare, more private elegance. White stone walls veined with gold. Floating shelves filled with scrolls, crystal tablets, and progression records. A circular window showed nothing but soft clouds and distant light, because apparently the Upper Realm was allergic to normal scenery.
Vizreel sat to Lux’s left. His chair creaked faintly beneath him despite being made of divine material.
On the table sat tea.
Lux picked up the cup anyway and took a sip like he was trying to gaslight himself into believing it was coffee.
It failed.
Celestaria watched him over the rim of her own cup.
"So," she said, far more casually now that the council was gone. "Tell us what you couldn’t say in the meeting."
Lux lowered the cup.
Just straight into the wound.
He preferred that.
Mostly.
"The mysterious sovereign is my narration."
Silence.
A worse one.
The kind where two very powerful celestial figures stopped moving because the information they had just received needed time to violently rearrange their understanding of the last twenty-four hours.
Celestaria didn’t blink.
Vizreel slowly turned his head toward Lux.
Lux took another sip of tea.
He continued, very casually, "The reason is simple. I managed to release one of the king’s prisoners."
Celestaria’s eyes sharpened.
Vizreel’s expression went from tired to fully awake.
Lux set the cup down.
"An ancient dragon."
The silence deepened.
The light in the office seemed to still.
Even the floating scrolls near Celestaria’s shelves paused their gentle drifting, as if the paperwork itself wanted gossip.
Lux glanced between them. "Now you’re silent."
