Chapter 15: Sorcery?

"I don’t know if you remember but, all the investigations done by the police pointed that there was no solid evidence that I was the one who killed him." He replied.

"Wasn’t that because of your father who was said to have bribed the police officers related to the investigation? I’m sure I read an article about that." Allen said.

"While my father, Rick Astley, was a wealthy businessman with some influence, it wasn’t enough to render the police’s investigation on the case."

"Either way, even the judges and the jury realized that there wasn’t conclusive evidence that pointed to me as the killer. That is why I was given a house arrest for 10 years." Donovan explained his story.

"..."

Allen simply stared at him and didn’t say a word.

However, his skepticism and doubts were cleared to a degree.

Although it was still possible that everything the man said could be a lie, there were plausible reasons to believe it as well.

’Well, it doesn’t matter to me. I don’t care why the wife killed the professor and whatnot.’

’The fact remains that as a punishment for attempting to kill me, he’s going to toil for me for the rest of his life.’ He thought.

"Umm, so... do I get to live?" Donovan asked hesitatingly.

"Huuh?" Allen looked at him menacingly.

"Hiii! Sorry! Please forgive me! Just let me live, I beg you! I’ll be your slave please!" Donovan begged.

"..."

An uncomfortable silence descended on the room as Allen remained quiet and Donovan, despite sweating like a pig about to be slaughtered, didn’t say anything out of fear.

He remembered that this man had killed thousands of zombies alone.

After what seemed like an eternity to Donovan, Allen finally said something.

"Fine, you can be my slave." Allen said as if it were an insignificant matter

Inwardly however, he was pleased to have a once in a lifetime engineering genius.

"R-really?" Donovan asked, unable to believe he got a second chance.

"What did I say about asking me twice?"

"S-sorry!" Donovan bowed seeing the scary look Allen gave him.

’I live! Albeit as a slave, I live!’

Donovan was jovial at the prospects of getting another opportunity at life.

Although his new master looked younger than him, he wasn’t one to complain.

Allen had already shown him that he was more than powerful enough for someone his age surviving in this apocalyptic world.

"Then, for your first task, tell me the location of the other zombies." Allen asked.

He brought out a map of the Wion Neighborhood and gave it to Donovan.

"Yes." Donovan nodded and accepted the map.

"Right now, we’re in the southern portion of Wion, from the recon I gathered from my drone, this is also where most of the zombies were until now." Donovan said.

"The other zombies are spread out thinly across the rest of Wion."

"The eastern portion would be the closest to us and it also has fewer zombies in comparison to other portions of the Neighborhood." Donovan explained.

"Is that so?" Allen said with a raised eyebrow as he noticed the place on the map Donovan was pointing to.

"Yes, I am sure of it." Donovan nodded.

"Then what are we waiting for? Let’s roll." Allen said as he began to walk out of the room.

"Um, wouldn’t it be better to wait for the rain to stop before we move?" Donovan asked hesitantly.

"Oh right!" Allen stopped as if he realized something.

’So he gets it?’ Donovan thought Allen agreed with his suggestion and hence stopped.

He was wrong.

"I almost forgot about the drone." Allen walked back and picked up the drone.

Then, in front of Donovan’s own eyes he saw the drone disappear!

"0_0!"

Donovan’s eyes widened like saucers as he saw what just happened.

He stared at Allen as if he were a ghost.

Allen noticed it and asked.

"What? Is there something on my face? Or are you just gay?"

Being called gay made Donovan come back to his senses.

"Absolutely not!" He said, fervently shaking his head.

"Then stop standing like an idiot and follow me."

Allen said before walking out of the room and making his way to the rooftop.

Donovan quickly followed after him, not wanting to be left out.

"This will do" Allen said, looking at the sturdy huge rooftop,

"..."

While Donovan was confused as to what Allen meant, he didn’t say anything and just watched quietly.

A fish that doesn’t open its mouth also doesn’t get caught.

Allen raised his right hand and stood there as if waiting for something to happen.

Wheesh

The next second, a black-blue streak of light shot out of Allen’s palm and took the shape of a sleek helicopter.

Needless to say Donovan was even more shocked than the last time. He was unable to believe what he was seeing.

’What type of sorcery is this? There’s no way technology can do something like that.’

After shock came amazement at witnessing Allen’s strange abilities.

Allen got inside the chopper and looked at Donovan who stood absentmindedly.

"Oi, get inside. I don’t have all day." He said.

"Y-yes." Donovan nodded and got inside the chopper.

It wasn’t his first time on one but he was quite curious seeing it, trying to see if there were any differences from the choppers had been in.

Seeing that there wasn’t he was a bit disappointed but quickly pushed it at the back of his mind as Allen began to take off.

’Amazing. Not only is he good at combat but also knows how to fly a chopper. How did someone so young learn such skills?’ Donovan wondered but didn’t voice out his thoughts.

Allen also didn’t say anything and was just busy flying. Inwardly, however, he was communicating with the System through his thoughts.

’So you’re saying I won’t be incapacitated if I were to level up the Mart?’ He asked.

[Affirmative.] The System replied.

’Then what are we waiting for? I authorize the level up of the Mart to Level 4.’ Allen ordered, wondering what new items he would be able to buy.

[As you command.]

The System agreed before beginning the level up.
