Chapter 1124: Chapter 100: Watcher
The two demon-like monsters clung to the sea serpent, discussing how to kill this magnificent creature like bloodthirsty parasites.
Compared to the sea serpent, Lorenzo and the Plague Doctor appeared minuscule, like ants figuring out how to kill an elephant.
But this time, it wasn’t a delusion. Even though the Plague Doctor felt terrified while listening to Lorenzo, he could discern a faint thread of possibility for victory.
Faced with such a bizarre monstrosity, even a fleet would be easily destroyed by it. The fury of industry couldn’t halt its advance, and mortals should choose humble submission rather than futile resistance.
But... they were not mere mortals.
Neither the Plague Doctor nor Lorenzo could be associated with so-called mortals at this moment. They could be pseudo-gods, demons, or monsters, but certainly not human.
They had long embarked on the path of ascension, elevating toward a grander existence. This was never a battlefield for mortals against it.
But it was its own battle.
"Are you sure you can kill it in the [Gap]?" the Plague Doctor asked, skeptical.
"I’m not sure. If it can wield a body like this, it’s probably not much different from Lawrence, maybe even stronger," Lorenzo said, looking somewhat helplessly at the bright light above. "But what other options do we have?"
"If the Morning Glow Advance sinks, we’ll have truly failed."
Lorenzo spoke, stating that exploring the World’s End was not the goal. The goal was to return to Ingwig with useful information after the exploration.
The daylight on the sea’s surface became clearer. Lorenzo could see it was an endless glacier, and he needed the Morning Glow Advance to break a navigable route through it.
"Even just wounding it would be good enough..."
Lorenzo planned for the worst, hoping to repel the sea serpent and give them some breathing room.
"Plague Doctor, I need to weaken it!"
Lorenzo shouted again, simultaneously swinging his sharp claws, frantically slashing at the sea serpent’s body, prying the giant scales apart to reveal the scarlet, searing flesh beneath.
"The flesh is a barrier of will. Only when it’s weakened will my chance to ambush it in the [Gap] significantly increase."
Listening to Lorenzo, the Plague Doctor’s tendrils began to dance wildly, each piercing the bleeding gaps, delving deeper, spreading rapidly into the sea serpent’s flesh like roots growing in the soil.
"This time, you better thank me properly, Holmes!"
The Plague Doctor shouted.
Observing the frenzy of red lines, Lorenzo felt as if the Plague Doctor was assimilating himself with the sea serpent, his tendrils roaming through its flesh like parasites.
Perhaps... there was hope, but it was too slow. The Plague Doctor’s parasitism was too slow, and given the size of this sea serpent, it would take at least several dozen days to fully parasitize it.
"Hold tight, Holmes, this was originally meant for you."
Amidst the crimson, Lorenzo could see a hideous, ominous smile.
Before Lorenzo could ponder, a brilliant radiance erupted beneath him.
The Blood Shark, crushed by the sea serpent, disintegrated into countless fragments under immense force, destroying what the Plague Doctor had prepared inside for Lorenzo.
Within the deep blue, a hint of crimson light flickered, then exploded.
A resounding explosion launched towering waves, fragmented metals radiating under the intense heat, all pouring onto the constricting serpent’s body. The sturdy scale armor shattered in an instant, and white light surged through the gaps. Yet, they were swiftly covered by the exploding metal, tons of blood pouring into the sea, evaporating into scorching steam due to the high heat.
A piercing wail reverberated, stirring sound waves.
The explosives placed in the Blood Shark by the Plague Doctor were all detonated. Originally meant for Lorenzo, given the great threat he posed to the ship after mastering the Black Angel, the Plague Doctor devised this mutually destructive strategy.
Their goals were aligned, but their mindsets differed entirely. Lorenzo needed to return alive to Ingwig with this information, while the Plague Doctor didn’t care. For this seeker of truth, the World’s End was the perfect burial place.
It was then that Lorenzo realized the Plague Doctor wasn’t parasitizing the sea serpent but merely securing himself onto it.
The furious explosion dealt a severe blow to the sea serpent. At such close range, combined with the shattered ship, massive metal fragments slashed through its body like giant swords. Some were blocked by scales, while others, already cracked in the impact, were easily pierced.
Blood gushed from the grievous wounds, but flames immediately rolled beneath the flesh, scarlet tendrils entwining and attempting to re-stitch the gigantic wounds.
All this was reflected in Lorenzo’s eyes, showing the increasing power of the sea serpent, proving its ascension level far exceeded Lorenzo’s expectations.
The sea serpent wailed, shaking violently, repeatedly hammering the remains of the Blood Shark, crashing into the sea surface before rising again, shaking Lorenzo so that he nearly fell off the serpent’s body.
"Plague Doctor, it’s injured!"
