Shen Roujia waved her hand dismissively. “Stop right there. I didn’t bring you along to lecture me. Let’s go—we’re heading back to White Stone Academy.”

The Seventh Elder’s residence had a back door connected to the nearby streets, which was convenient for Shen Roujia to slip back inside.

“Go change into a scholar’s assistant’s attire. That black outfit of yours is too conspicuous.”

Zhang San accepted the order and hurried off, while Shen Roujia straightened her collar and yawned, ready to return to the library for a bit of rest.

But to her surprise, there were still students studying at this hour.

Shen Roujia noticed a chubby boy who was so sleepy that he could barely keep his eyes open. She felt both sympathy and amusement—this was almost certainly a case of family pressure being too much to bear.

These young scions of noble families could easily secure a minor official position without worrying about the imperial exams. Yet, they seemed determined to prove something to their families.

It was hard to say whether it was the parents’ stubborn pride or something else, but in the end, it was the children who suffered, unable to express their true selves, and forced to pretend they were passionate about their studies.

With this in mind, Shen Roujia waved to the attendant outside. “Send Young Master Yu back home.”

The chubby boy jolted awake at the sound of Shen Roujia’s voice, wiping the drool from the corner of his mouth. He mumbled, “Teacher, are you here? Is it time for morning lessons?”

Shen Roujia affectionately pinched his chubby cheek. “Silly child, do you even know what time it is? Go home and get some sleep.”

She took the essay in front of him and patted his shoulder. “I think your family’s carriage is still waiting at the gate. Go home. If your mother asks, I’ll tell her you were diligently studying.”

The boy’s eyes sparkled with both joy and gratitude. “Teacher, you’re the best teacher I’ve ever had!”

He almost jumped up with excitement. “Goodbye, Teacher!”

Shen Roujia couldn’t help but laugh, shaking her head as she began to tidy up the desk. As she cleaned up, she noticed a small box on her table.

“Huh? What is this?”
