Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Celestial Blade Disciple
"Nice! A Fourth Grade Body Technique!"
Su Bai came to his senses, feeling a surge of excitement.
Having acquired a new Cultivation Technique, Su Bai immediately put it to the test right where he stood.
He found that after executing Three Illusions Dustless, his speed increased tremendously. What’s more, he could transform into three Illusion Bodies, making it nearly impossible to tell the real one from the fakes!
Unless they were a Martial Artist with exceptionally high Cultivation, it would be nearly impossible to tell which was an Illusion Body and which was his True Body.
With this Fourth Grade Body Technique, Su Bai’s power had grown once again!
"Lord Su, my name is Wu Feng. I am your deputy!"
Not long after, a young man entered Su Bai’s palace.
This man was an official from the Great Xia Dynasty, assigned to serve as Su Bai’s deputy and assist him with his duties.
This was normal, of course. Prison Chiefs couldn’t possibly handle everything personally. Having a deputy to assist them improved efficiency.
Back when Su Bai was just a Prison Guard, he remembered seeing a deputy standing next to the new, fat Prison Chief, calling out names during roll call.
But as a thought crossed Su Bai’s mind, he mused internally.
’This man is probably here to keep an eye on me, too.’
He had, after all, managed to make the tight-lipped Long Jingyun reveal the location of a Secret Manual.
Evidently, this might have made the upper echelons of Great Xia wary and suspicious of him.
Of course, he couldn’t be bothered to dwell on it.
Since his superiors had sent him a deputy,
he might as well make use of him!
After a brief exchange between Su Bai and Wu Feng, the latter tactfully took his leave.
’My position has been elevated to Prison Chief. It’s time I went and built some rapport with the chiefs of the neighboring districts.’
After a moment’s thought, Su Bai rose and walked out of his palace.
He made a trip to the kitchens, picked up some fine wine, and began to wander around.
He started by chatting with a few A-level Prison Guards from the Seventh District for a while, making sure they knew his face.
Then, leaving a few bottles of fine wine behind, he headed for the Sixth District.
After he left, the veteran Prison Guards exchanged glances and began to talk amongst themselves in hushed tones. Most of them were green with envy.
After all, he was so young for a Prison Chief; they were all convinced Su Bai must have gotten in through the back door!
What’s more, the aura Su Bai projected was so faint it was even weaker than their own.
Thus, while they were polite to his face, they held him in utter contempt behind his back.
Su Bai paid their opinions no mind.
At this time, carrying the fine wine, he arrived at the Sixth District.
"You are..."
Upon entering the Sixth District, a young Prison Guard immediately moved to block Su Bai’s path.
But upon seeing Su Bai’s attire, he understood at once, hurriedly bowing and speaking with respect.
"Ah, Lord Prison Chief!"
"May I ask what business brings you to our prison district, my lord?"
The young Prison Guard chose his words carefully, his heart pounding with anxiety.
He didn’t know Su Bai’s specific identity, but a Prison Chief personally visiting their Sixth District was someone who must be treated with the utmost courtesy.
"Haha! Just came to make myself known!"
Su Bai didn’t beat around the bush. He handed a jug of fine wine to the slightly dumbfounded young Prison Guard.
Then, he struck up a conversation.
The young Prison Guard was astonished.
After all, a Prison Guard was just a Prison Guard. In the strictly hierarchical Great Xia Dynasty, the status of a Prison Chief was far more prestigious than that of a mere guard.
He had never even heard of a Prison Chief who would lower themselves to strike up a conversation with a strange guard.
He couldn’t help but feel a flicker of goodwill toward Su Bai.
Through their conversation, Su Bai learned that this man was a new guard who had recently joined the Sixth District and had just been promoted to D-level Prison Guard.
His task was to guard the border of the Sixth District and report any disturbances immediately.
A few moments into their conversation,
Su Bai suddenly spotted two middle-aged Prison Guards in the distance. They were escorting a bare-chested, burly man toward them.
The two guards had powerful auras; both were Tongxuan Realm Martial Artists.
But their expressions were grave, and they didn’t dare let their guard down while escorting the convict. Their hands were clamped tightly onto the man’s shoulder blades, their knuckles white.
Meanwhile, the big man, with his scruffy beard and rugged features, shot the two guards a look of utter disdain as he ambled forward at a leisurely pace.
An unknowing observer might have thought he was on vacation at the prison.
His interest piqued, Su Bai quickly walked toward them.
The two Prison Guards stiffened when they saw Su Bai approaching.
"Lord Prison Chief!"
Seeing his attire, they dared not be negligent and quickly bowed.
Su Bai told them to be at ease and then inquired about the burly man.
The burly man stood his ground, shot Su Bai a sidelong glance, and then simply closed his eyes to rest, completely ignoring the conversation.
"Reporting to you, my lord, this man is a bandit chief. He committed a series of major crimes in the North of the River region, specializing in ambushing and murdering passing merchants and travelers."
"Furthermore, it’s rumored he also colluded with Demon Fiends. After being captured by a lord from the Demon-slaying Bureau, he was sent to our prison."
The other Prison Guard seemed to recall something and added with a grave expression,
"I heard he was once a disciple of the Heavenly Blade Madman... but was later abandoned!"
At the words "later abandoned,"
the burly man’s expression changed dramatically.
His face twisted into a ferocious snarl, his eyes seeming to spit flames of rage as he glared at the guard with sinister intent.
At that moment, he was like an Evil Ghost from hell, looking as if he wanted to devour the guard’s very soul.
"You bastard!"
The guard had a short fuse himself.
Infuriated, he immediately channeled his True Qi, activating the Red Thunder Chain tightly bound around the burly man.
The next moment, the activated chain released a surge of blood-red electricity that slammed into the burly man, searing bloody holes into his flesh.
The burly man winced in pain and shot the guard a cold glare before tactfully closing his eyes once more.
’This man’s Physique is quite something.’
Watching all this unfold, Su Bai couldn’t help but feel a pang of envy for the man’s incredible Physique.
Since becoming a Prison Chief, he had learned many more secrets.
He knew that these blood-red chains were a special torture device called the Red Thunder Chain.
An ordinary Qi Sea Realm Martial Artist would likely be gravely injured and knocked unconscious by a single strike from the Red Thunder Chain.
Yet this burly man had only sustained minor injuries and acted as if nothing had happened.
Next, Su Bai proposed that he join the two Prison Guards
in escorting the man to his cell.
The two guards didn’t dare refuse Su Bai’s request and quickly agreed.
And so, the three of them escorted the burly man onward.
After a winding journey,
the three finally locked the burly man in a cell forged from special Refined Iron.
As soon as the convict was locked away, a silver point of light appeared on the Purification Tripod in Su Bai’s mind.
