Chapter 1873: Wave of Crimson
The sky was a dull gray.
Near the horizon, a wave of crimson slowly started to spill across the canvas above.
The ground was barren.
It seemed to stretch endlessly. The entire land bore deep wounds and scars.
Traces of battle, those were. And from the look of things, the battle seemed intense.
And recent...
Here and there, odd structures rose from the ground. It was unknown as to what they were.
A solitary figure in leather armor sprawled on this war-torn land, unmoving. The mist still clung to him, as it did to the land and everything on it.
Slowly, painfully, horrifyingly, the mist started to recede as the muted sky turned crimson.
A flash of gray light and a tiny figure appeared beside the larger one.
"Brother! Brother!"
Valerian called out in alarm as he pushed his paws against Adam’s head.

He looked around in trepidation. Then he looked at the sky that was turning red, the fear in his eyes growing even more intense.
"Brother, wake up! Brother, please!"
The young dragon didn’t know what had happened.
One moment, they were out in the real world. The next, they were engulfed in gray mist and confronted by a group of strange-looking people.
Valerian could vaguely tell that they’d been teleported through the mist after the confrontation.
And then, they were here.
Just him and his dear brother.
Separated from the rest, Adam lay motionlessly on this barren plain for a long time. Hours, perhaps. He was in a deep state of sleep. So was Valerian, for that matter. But the little guy was the first to wake up.
He cautiously came out of the raven-haired youth’s spirit sea and scouted the nearby surroundings. Despite there being no one around, the place gave him a very dreadful feeling.
And when he saw the skies slowly turning blood crimson, he knew something truly bad was about to happen.
Valerian refrained from transforming and flying away with Adam in his grasp. The latter had warned him never to soar across the sky in an unknown land. That would make him an easy target.
The little guy did everything to obey his brother’s words.
But now...
"Brother, please! Wake up!"
If Adam didn’t wake up soon, Valerian would have no other choice but to take a great risk and fly away with him to safety.
But where was safety?
"Brother! Brother!"
The little guy continued to vehemently nudge Adam’s head even as tears trickled down his furry face. But no matter what, the youth just wouldn’t wake up.
If it weren’t for Adam breathing, Valerian would have truly believed him to be dead.
"Brother! Wake-"
"Ugh..."

"Brother!" Valerian was beside himself. Relief washed over him, and he tightly hugged Adam’s head. "You’re finally awake!"
"Val..." Adam murmured, his eyes blurry and his mind groggy. "What are you... What’s happening?"
He slowly sat up, feeling lazy. Very lazy.
"Goodness," he murmured. "What in the nine hells?"
Truly, he had never felt so lazy.
"We need to leave! We need to leave!"
Valerian had climbed his head. The little guy was anxiously clutching his hair, trying his best to fully wake him up.
Adam winced a little. "Val, don’t—"
"No!" Valerian interrupted him, anxiety slipping into his tone. "Look around, Brother! We need to leave immediately! Something... something’s coming! I can feel it!"
Sensing the gravity in his little brother’s voice, Adam became solemn.
Then, everything came back to him — the valley, the mysterious mist, him and the rest of the party getting swallowed by it, the gypsies, the tale, and finally, the unexpected involvement of another member. A stranger.
Adam’s pupils constricted, and he quickly got into a fighting position. His hand turned into a blur and reached for the dagger sheathed to his waist. He spread the Sphere of Resonance far and wide, and instantly he shuddered.
Where is everyone else?
And...
What the hell is that feeling?!
He gulped subconsciously.
"Val," he whispered softly, as though someone... something might hear him. "Get back inside."
Gray light flashed again, and the little guy had vanished, leaving behind his grave warning once again.
"The sky is turning red! Something is coming!"
Adam’s head snapped upward, toward the heavens. And the foreboding feeling in his heart intensified.
The mist that had permeated the barren plain was slowly receding. In the skies above, a pall of crimson was slowly covering everything.
One returning. The other emerging.
Something told him that once the sky turned completely red...
Adam took a deep, shaky breath. He looked around, trying to search for a place to hide. Being out in the open, that too in an unknown land, was extremely risky.
He had to find some place to—

His eyes narrowed.
It was faint, but he could see it!
In the next heartbeat, he weaved a hand seal and prepared to teleport.
But the next moment, his eyes widened.
He was unable to teleport!
Not wasting any time, he broke into a sprint. In the far distance, he spotted the silhouette of a structure. It was little more than a ruin, yet it stood out conspicuously amid the vast, open plain.
He had to reach it before the sky turned completely red.
His instincts screamed that he should not be caught out in the open once night fell. And Adam had long since learned to trust his instincts.
As he charged toward the structure, he couldn’t help but curse silently.
Damn it! What can’t I teleport?
Suddenly, he thought of something. With a heavy heart, he weaved hand seals as he continued to sprint. A moment later, he tried to summon the serpents from the Coil.
He couldn’t...
Fuck!
Adam’s suspicions were finally confirmed.
The mysterious mist had transported him into a secret plane!
He ran with all his might, his speed so incredible that he appeared to be a blur running across the barren land. Yet even then, his destination seemed very far away.
And the sky...
It had already turned red.
Adam slowly raised his head as fear gripped his heart. He could finally see why the color of the sky was so ominous.
A giant crimson moon hung in the night sky.
His heart beat faster and louder as he gritted his teeth and ran with all his might.
But he was still too late...

Suddenly, the ground trembled.
The entire barren landscape seemed to have come alive with the advent of the crimson moon.
Then, to Adam’s horror, rotten, skeletal hands burst through the earth.
In the blink of an eye, countless undead clawed their way to the surface. Clad in broken armor and wielding rusted blades, they rose from the ancient graves.
One by one, they surged from the ground. They donned broken armor and wielded rusted blades.
Tens... hundreds... thousands...
Hundreds of thousands of them!
Without hesitation, the undead legions clashed with one another.
The clash of rusted steel and the shrieks of the undead echoed across the wasteland.
Beneath the eerie light of the crimson moon, the battle raged without end.
As it had...
For generations.
