The German police are divided into federal and state levels.
The federal level is national.
Regular federal police handle borders, airports, counter-terrorism, and so on.
There's also a Federal Criminal Police Office, similar to America's FBI, dealing with international crime, counter-terrorism coordination, and such.
For the states, it's similar to the federal structure above.
However, their jurisdiction and authority aren't as broad. They can only manage their own state, not the entire country.
Germany has sixteen states in total.
State-level police come in two types.
The first type manages cities, communities, daily public safety, etc. - they're called public order police, also known as patrol officers.
The second type handles criminal investigations - the State Criminal Police Office.
The ones who came this time were state police.
There weren't many of them, including a coroner.

These were the ones permanently stationed in Aisen Town.
Jiang Ran had long since finished his lunch.
Since he couldn't leave, he simply stayed in his seat and watched the show.
He kept waiting for the German police to arrive.
Originally very calm, Jiang Ran suddenly sat up from his seat the moment he saw those German police officers, exclaiming in loud surprise:
"Doctor Bai?!"
Over there, a young Asian man with Hua Country features, standing among the German police officers, instinctively turned his head when he heard someone call out to him.
The moment he turned, his eyes met Jiang Ran's, and both of them froze.
Then, simultaneously, they both blurted out: "What are you doing here?!"
After that, Bai Xiaoliang temporarily separated from the people around him and walked toward Jiang Ran.
Seeing Bai Xiaoliang approaching him, Jiang Ran spoke first: "I came here for onboarding training. Once it's done, I'll go back home. What about you?"
Bai Xiaoliang said: "My teacher is here. He asked me to come, said he needs my help with something."
Bai Xiaoliang then took a careful look at the Jiang Ran before him, still finding it surreal - how could they possibly run into each other here, of all places?
"By the way, how's your condition?"
As a doctor, Bai Xiaoliang was very concerned about Jiang Ran's dissociative identity disorder.
Jiang Ran chuckled: "Same as always. Neither good nor bad."
Bai Xiaoliang nodded: "Neither good nor bad might actually be the best outcome. Just keep it that way."
While the two of them were talking.
Over there, they had already conducted a basic investigation into Leon.
The Aisen Town police found a personal ID card on Leon's body.
This personal ID card was the size of a bank card.
There was a plastic chip on the back.
On the left side of the personal ID was Leon's photo.

It was confirmed to be him, no mistake.
On the right side were Leon's name, date of birth, place of birth, nationality, and personal ID number, among other things.
While the police were confirming Leon's identity.
The accompanying coroner had also preliminarily determined Leon's cause of death.
"This person died of cardiac arrest. (German)"
"Cardiac arrest? (German)"
A German police officer was startled, as if recalling something.
Then his pupils instantly contracted.
And although the coroner's words weren't loud, they carried through the extremely quiet restaurant.
As a result, everyone in the restaurant heard it clearly.
"It's Kira! It's Kira! It must be him!!! (German)"
A young female server in the restaurant, upon hearing that Leon had died of cardiac arrest.
Was so frightened that she collapsed onto the ground.
Her right hand trembling as she pointed at the corpse lying on the floor, gradually turning cold.
Her pretty face was filled with terror.
She wasn't the only one. Anyone who heard the words "cardiac arrest" had extremely unpleasant expressions on their faces.
Seeing this, Jiang Ran was very confused. He lowered his voice and asked Bai Xiaoliang beside him: "What's going on? What's Kira? And why are they all so scared?"
Jiang Ran's phone had been running its voice translation function the whole time.
Bai Xiaoliang's expression was grim. He also replied in a low voice: "It's because more than a dozen cases of cardiac arrest deaths have occurred recently in Aisen Town. There's no connection between the victims."
"No one knows who started spreading it."
"That it was done by Kira from that Cherry Blossom Country anime, Death Note - in other words, Light Yagami."
His mouth slightly open, Jiang Ran rubbed his chin with his right hand: "Come on, isn't that too ridiculous?"
Bai Xiaoliang said: "I think it's ridiculous too, but you can't stop some people from believing it."
...
At that moment, inside Room 507 of the 25 Hours Hotel.
Two young men had appeared there.
If Jiang Ran were here, he would definitely be astonished.
Wasn't that Jin Baiying and Zhao Jue, the two who had been taken away by the police?

Jin Baiying and Zhao Jue had appeared here. They entered 507 and immediately began searching everywhere inside, as if looking for something.
But after searching the whole place, it seemed they hadn't found what they were looking for.
The two of them were now standing in front of Derby's bed. Jin Baiying stared at the scattered clothes on the bed, frowning:
"This isn't Jiang Ran's. I just checked. Jiang Ran's clothes are all in his own suitcase. So these are Derby's. But where is Derby? Could he already be dead? Killed by Jiang Ran?"
Zhao Jue yawned, his face full of impatience: "Give it up. With that weakling? He could kill Derby?"
Jin Baiying said: "Then where do you think Derby is now?"
Zhao Jue frowned: "Why should I care where he is?!"
Jin Baiying said: "Don't take it out on me. If you've got the guts, go take it out on those people."
As if reminded of the people Jin Baiying was referring to, Zhao Jue, who was usually afraid of nothing and no one.
Who had manic depression.
Actually flinched violently.
Cold sweat dripped down his forehead.
But still, unwilling to admit defeat, he muttered: "Heh, they just have numbers on their side."
Jin Baiying stared at Zhao Jue.
He felt nothing but contempt for this psycho in his heart.
But since they'd been assigned to work together, and they had a common target they both wanted to kill, they had no choice but to cooperate.
"So annoying."
Jin Baiying felt like he might be catching Zhao Jue's illness, inexplicably growing irritable as well.
Still, the immediate priority was to confirm whether Derby was alive or dead.
And just then.
In the silent Room 507, a strange "Mmm mmm mmm" sound suddenly emerged.
This sound was caught by the sharp-eared Jin Baiying. He asked Zhao Jue: "Did you hear something?"
Zhao Jue shook his head: "No."
Jin Baiying didn't expect anything from Zhao Jue and rolled his eyes inwardly.

He told Zhao Jue to keep quiet, then crouched down himself, listening carefully.
Soon, he confirmed that the sound seemed to be coming from the suitcase beside Derby's bed.
The suitcase was currently lying on its side.
Not standing on its wheels.
Jin Baiying opened the two latches of the suitcase, then slowly lifted the top half of the suitcase upward.
When the top half was lifted, both he, crouching, and Zhao Jue, standing behind him, involuntarily sucked in a sharp breath of cold air.
Because, after half of the suitcase's lid was opened.
They saw Derby, whom they had met a few times before, the very person they had been searching for, tightly bound and folded up, stuffed inside the suitcase!!!!
"Mmm mmm mmm"
That muffled sound was coming from Derby.
If Room 507 weren't so quiet, and if Jin Baiying weren't so attentive.
They definitely wouldn't have heard it, because Derby's mouth had been sealed far too tightly with duct tape by the Jiang Ran Who Doesn't Kill.
