Chapter 261: Chapter 221: A Fair Hand Stirs the Soup, Please Kill Gu Yi
At that moment, Xu Kai and a group of others also came out. The sight of the pink carriage left them all stunned.
The carriage was so famous that you couldn’t find a second one like it in the entire Imperial Capital.
"It’s Lady Sujin!"
"Why would Lady Sujin suddenly appear here?"
"Could she be looking for someone?"
Amidst the low murmurs, Xu Kai first glanced at Wu Liangchen with a shocked expression, then looked over at the carriage, his heart suddenly filled with emotion.
’So this is the advantage of being young, handsome, and capable.’
When her invitation went unanswered, the top courtesan whom most men could only dream of meeting had come looking for him herself.
’Now things were getting interesting!’
Realizing what was happening, the crowd turned their gazes toward Wu Liangchen.
After all, they were all seasoned bureaucrats, an incredibly cunning bunch. It didn’t take them long to figure out who the carriage was for.
Just then, the carriage curtain was gently lifted, and an exquisitely beautiful woman gracefully stepped out.
Her beauty was so striking that it seemed to dim the street-side lanterns.
Many of them stared, dumbfounded.
The woman walked with graceful steps until she was before Wu Liangchen, then gave an elegant curtsy.
"I am Sujin. It is an honor to meet you, Master Wu."
Her voice was achingly sweet, and paired with her innocent expression, she was the very definition of a siren.
Wu Liangchen remained unfazed, but a gray-haired man next to him, nearly fifty years old, lost control and got a sudden nosebleed.
Fortunately, he reacted quickly, covering his nose and mouth as he hastily retreated to the back.
Wu Liangchen hadn’t expected Lady Sujin, the top courtesan of the Rain Building, to be so bold—not only waiting for him but also stepping out of her carriage to request an audience.
He gave a slight nod. "What do you want with me?"
His response left the onlookers stunned. A breathtaking beauty had come to see him. Any other man would have been so flustered he wouldn’t know which way was up. Yet Wu Liangchen had simply asked what she wanted.
’That’s... a bit too cold, isn’t it?’
But this Sujin seemed completely unfazed. She smiled faintly and said, "I have admired you for a long time, Master Wu. It is a great honor to finally meet you today."
"However, this isn’t a convenient place to talk. Might I invite you into my carriage to speak privately?"
Wu Liangchen thought for a moment, then nodded. "Alright."
One after the other, they boarded the carriage, which then sped away with a crack of the whip.
The crowd watched the departing carriage with envy, unable to resist murmuring amongst themselves.
"It could only be Master Wu. Who else has ever seen Lady Sujin act so deferential?"
"Isn’t that the truth? Just the other day, the second son of the Minister of the Ministry of Rites tried to force his way into staying the night, but Lady Sujin turned him away with a simple excuse of ’not feeling well.’ If he saw this today, who knows how heartbroken he’d be!"
"Heh heh, being heartbroken wouldn’t do him any good. He should take a look at what kind of man Master Wu is. How could he possibly compare?" Xu Kai said smugly, having snapped out of his daze.
He looked so proud you’d think he was the one who got into the carriage.
"Lord Xu, let’s go! Master Wu is off with a beauty, so we should go find some fun of our own!"
"Exactly! We can’t afford the Rain Building, but surely we can have a look around Anxiang Pavilion, right? We have to go for a night with the ladies!"
But at the mere mention of a night with the ladies, Xu Kai felt a dull ache in his loins and waved his hands dismissively.
"A few drinks, just a few drinks will be fine. As for the ladies, I think I’ll pass."
"No passing on this! Let’s go, Lord Xu! If we’re any later, all the girls will be taken!"
Naturally, they couldn’t take their official sedan chairs to visit a brothel. The group jostled their way into a carriage and headed for Anxiang Pavilion.
And while they were off in search of pleasure, Wu Liangchen sat in the carriage, his expression cold.
The pink carriage was spacious, but its decor was not lavish. Instead, it was cozy and elegant.
A faint, sweet fragrance wafted through the air, soothing and refreshing.
Inside the carriage, there was even a tea set. A small silver stove brought the water to a boil, and Sujin, holding a silver spoon, slowly prepared the tea.
Her expression was focused. Now that he was closer, Wu Liangchen noticed that although the woman’s features were stunning, she wasn’t wearing heavy makeup.
Her hands, in particular, were immaculate, with neatly trimmed nails—a beautiful picture of delicate hands preparing a brew.
"Master Wu, please have some tea."
Just then, Chen Sujin held out a bowl of freshly brewed tea with utmost respect.
But Wu Liangchen didn’t take it. Instead, he watched her thoughtfully.
"Speak. What is so important that you would risk your own reputation to come find me in person?"
These top courtesans were much like the celebrities of later generations; they had to maintain a certain mystique.
Only then would people be willing to spend money to support them.
So one could only imagine the damage it would do to her image once word spread that she had waited outside the Ministry of Justice Office and even stepped out of her carriage to personally extend an invitation.
It was no exaggeration to say that many of her former admirers would fly into a rage out of shame and furiously turn against her.
And Wu Liangchen didn’t believe his own reputation and looks were worth such a sacrifice from Chen Sujin.
Frankly, women who were used to navigating the world of pleasure and passion had seen it all. She might be a little curious about him, but it wasn’t enough to make her debase herself like this.
Therefore, this woman definitely had something on her mind, and it was no small matter.
As expected.
Upon hearing Wu Liangchen’s question, Chen Sujin let out a soft sigh.
"It seems nothing gets past you, Master Wu. Since you’ve asked so directly, I’ll be frank."
