Chapter 307: A Promise Between Two Hearts
A Promise Between Two Hearts
Anna’s eyes lit up the moment she heard Leon’s answer.
The quiet tension that had lingered between them slowly melted away. A gentle breeze swept across the courtyard, rustling the leaves overhead and stirring the hems of their robes. Warm sunlight filtered through the branches, casting shifting patches of light across the stone path. For the first time since they began talking, the atmosphere felt calm.
Deep down, Anna let out a quiet sigh of relief.
So...
He really wasn’t that kind of man.
When Leon had first proposed becoming Pathbound Companions, she’d worried it had been nothing more than a spur-of-the-moment decision—or worse, simple attraction. But instead of brushing aside her concerns or trying to convince her, he had listened carefully and accepted every one of them without complaint.
That alone spoke volumes.
He wasn’t trying to possess her.
He genuinely wanted to know her.
More importantly, he was willing to respect her feelings, match her pace, and let trust grow naturally instead of forcing the relationship forward.
A faint smile curved her lips.
I really didn’t misjudge him.
This Fellow Brother... is someone worth knowing.
Noticing the softness in her expression, Leon smiled warmly before speaking again.
"How about this? We can become temporary Pathbound Companions first. We can spend time together, get to know each other, even go on dates. If, after all that, Fellow Sister feels we’re truly compatible, then we can officially become Pathbound Companions."
Anna blinked, clearly caught off guard.
"A temporary Pathbound Companion?"
She tilted her head, curiosity filling her bright eyes.
"I’ve never heard of something like that before."
Leon let out a quiet chuckle.
"It’s simply a title," he explained. "We’re closer than ordinary friends, but without the responsibilities that come with being official Pathbound Companions. It gives us time to understand each other naturally."
After a brief pause, he continued in the same calm, reassuring voice.
"And during this time, if I do something that makes Fellow Sister feel we’re not suited for one another, you can end the relationship whenever you want. No pressure. No obligations."
There wasn’t the slightest hint of insistence in his voice.
He wasn’t trying to corner her into making a decision.
Instead, he was placing the choice entirely in her hands.
Anna lowered her gaze, quietly thinking over everything he had said.
Temporary Pathbound Companion...
She repeated the unfamiliar words in her mind.
The longer she considered the idea, the more reasonable it seemed.
It wasn’t asking her to make a lifelong promise.
It was simply giving two people the chance to know each other without rushing.
If their feelings deepened naturally, they could move forward together.
And if they realized they weren’t right for each other...
They could part ways peacefully, without regret or resentment.
It was a bridge between strangers and lifelong companions.
A way to build trust step by step while respecting each other’s boundaries.
Without realizing it, Anna found herself nodding ever so slightly.
That...
Actually makes a lot of sense now.
She slowly raised her beautiful eyes.
Leon was still standing exactly where he had been all along.
The breeze gently brushed through his shoulder-length black hair, causing a few loose strands to sway across his face. The delicate amethyst embroidery woven into his midnight-black robes shimmered softly beneath the afternoon sunlight.
His calm, gentle smile never changed.
It wasn’t forced.
It wasn’t impatient.
It was simply warm, steady, and sincere.
For reasons she couldn’t quite explain, just looking at him made the uneasiness in her heart fade a little more.
For a brief moment, Anna forgot to breathe.
Her heart trembled once again.
Why does my heart become so restless every time I look at him...?
She still couldn’t understand it.
But one thing had become impossible to deny.
The honest feeling inside her heart had never disappeared.
It quietly reminded her again and again that she genuinely liked the man standing before her.
She had resisted that conclusion countless times.
She had questioned herself repeatedly.
Yet every answer eventually led back to the same place.
Taking a slow breath, Anna finally smiled.
"Okay..."
Her voice was gentle, but filled with quiet determination.
"I agree."
A faint blush colored her cheeks as she lowered her gaze.
If it doesn’t work out...
Then we’ll simply end the temporary relationship.
There’s nothing to lose.
At the very least...
A faint blush colored her cheeks as she lowered her gaze.
She wanted to give her heart a chance to discover the answer.
I’ll just give it a try...
Seeing her finally agree, Leon couldn’t hide the happiness in his eyes.
That was easier than I expected.
A smile naturally spread across his face.
Does this mean... I’ll have someone special by my side in the future?
The thought was undeniably exciting.
Still, he quickly reminded himself to stay calm.
Their relationship had only just begun.
It was merely a temporary arrangement built on trust.
There was no reason to rush anything.
The future would unfold naturally if they continued walking together.
After confirming their temporary relationship, Leon raised his hand.
Six slender silver needles appeared one after another, each glowing with a faint, mysterious radiance.
The surrounding air seemed to ripple as the supreme treasures floated quietly before them.
Leon looked at Anna with a warm smile.
"Fellow Sister, take these six Thunder Floral Pins as my love token to you. Now, you won’t reject me again, right?"
