Chapter 579: Chapter 491: Delicious Braised Pork Buns, Appetite Increased
Chris didn’t even have time to exclaim; the food in her mouth hadn’t been swallowed yet, and she quickly took a few more bites, relishing the wonderful taste of the baozi skin and filling slowly melting in her mouth.
When she opened her eyes again, the fist-sized baozi had disappeared without a trace, leaving only a glossy sheen of oil on her fingers.
Instinctively, she leaned in and licked twice, and she could actually taste a faint aroma of meat!
"This is just too delicious! Do Great Xia People eat this kind of breakfast every morning?"
For some reason, a strong sense of jealousy suddenly arose in her heart. Why doesn’t Romantic Country have such a satisfying food to eat in the morning?
All of a sudden, she seemed to realize something and quickly looked around. She indeed found that everyone was in a similar situation, heads down, eating voraciously, too busy to make a single exclamation.
No wonder the kitchen is so quiet!
Recalling Chef Lin’s advice to eat the baozi while it’s hot, she didn’t care much about anything else and quickly reached out to grab a soy sauce meat baozi.
The reason she could accurately identify the filling was that she had smeared a bit of soy sauce meat filling at the baozi’s closure point to differentiate them easily.
If the pork and scallion baozi contained meatballs, then the soy sauce meat baozi had minced meat, the kind that’s pre-stir-fried, giving it a completely different texture.
She wanted to taste what kind of surprise this would bring her!
Before eating, she even looked at the soy sauce meat filling twice to make sure there were no crystal jelly bits inside before she opened her mouth wide to take a bite.
Sure enough!
After breaking open this baozi, no scalding juice squirted out; instead, there was a rich, fragrant soy sauce flavor.
This sauce is not at all like the sauces in their Western cuisine; it’s more like a unique flavor contained in a series of seasonings made from fermented soybeans.
Compared to soybean paste or other bean paste, she was quite familiar with the taste of soy sauce, so she could roughly discern the flavors within.
The texture of the outer baozi skin didn’t differ much since it was made from the same batch of dough, but the taste of the meat filling inside was completely different.
The pre-stir-fried beef filling appeared grainy, and although it looked like lean meat covered with thick sauce to the naked eye, when eaten, it clearly had a distinctive aroma of beef fat, which the rich sauce couldn’t mask.
However, the fermented aroma of this sauce could somewhat offset the greasiness of the beef fat, which, although completely different from the smell of scallion, performed a very similar role.
Refreshingly aromatic!
Unknowingly, another large baozi went down her belly.
Chris wiped the remaining oil from the corners of her mouth, looking at the three round, snow-white baozi left in the paper box with satisfaction. Each baozi had an oil sheen in varying colors, making it possible to vaguely see the color of the filling inside.
As a pastry chef, she had immense confidence in her dough-rolling skills, and these baozi skins were absolutely up to Chef Lin’s standards in terms of thickness.
When she had previously taken the baozi, she had slyly observed other chefs’ baozi; some were thick, some were thin, but none were as uniformly thin and thick as hers.
She secretly indulged in a moment of pride but then faced a dilemma.
Touching her slightly bulging flat belly, Chris gently bit her red lip.
"Although I’m already a bit full, stopping now feels unsatisfying."
"Just one more, which flavor should I choose?"
"I’ve already eaten two with meat; perhaps I should try a vegetarian one? I can roughly imagine the taste of the chicken filling, but I can’t picture the flavor of these two vegetarian ones at all."
With these thoughts, her gaze wandered between the cabbage and the mushroom and greens.
The mushroom and greens filling was easiest to identify: vibrant green vegetables paired with brown mushrooms could be distinguished at a glance through the oil-soaked translucent baozi skin.
However, the cabbage filling had no distinctive features, but that in itself became its biggest feature.
While she was hesitating, a faint exclamation sounded beside her.
"So delicious..."
Lin?
A lightbulb went off, and Chris’s eyes lit up.
Got it!
Turning her head, she saw Lin also voraciously tearing into the reddish-brown soy sauce meat baozi.
The snow-white, fluffy baozi skin was soaked with soy sauce red in the center, densely packed with shiny shards of beef almost overflowing, as if a slight shake would send a chunk of meat tumbling down.
Lin carefully held the baozi by both sides, afraid that the deliciousness at her lips would fly away if she didn’t hold it steady. Her cheeks were puffed, and her big eyes were fixated on the tear, seemingly searching for the next bite point.
"Lin, is this baozi delicious?"
Chris asked with a tender smile.
"Yes, yes! Super delicious! It’s the best baozi I’ve ever had!"
She actually had other baozi before?
Suddenly, Chris felt a bit envious. It’s such a delicious thing, yet she only got to try it today for the first time.
But she quickly adjusted her mindset.
Not every place that makes baozi is as delicious as here; after all, Chef Lin’s skills have been affirmed by Michelin Chefs.
If she hasn’t tasted bad baozi, it doesn’t matter~
"How much more can you eat?"
Lin stuffed the remaining half of the soy sauce meat baozi into her mouth, tilted her head in thought for a moment, and gauged the fullness in her stomach.
"I could probably finish it all?"
"What?!"
The sudden exclamation startled everyone, and they all cast curious glances in this direction.
Chris smiled at everyone apologetically, her fair face blushing deeply as she quickly lowered her voice.
"Really, you have such a big appetite? Each of these baozi is about the size of a fist. Looking at you being so slender, could you really eat five in one go?"
"Yes!"
Lin nodded earnestly, grinning and revealing a mouthful of silver teeth.
"My appetite is odd; when I was little, it was small, maybe one sandwich could fill me. But when it’s big, I could eat four or five double cheeseburgers."
"Right now, I feel my appetite is quite large; finishing these would absolutely be no problem!"
Originally intending to share and taste with Lin, Chris had not expected this little one to have such an appetite. Her eyes twirled as she spun up another idea.
"Oh right, isn’t your brother arriving soon? These are baozi you made with your own hands; you should save some for him to try."
"Oh, right!"
Lin froze, quickly looked up at the time; it was already a few minutes past five.
Thinking of Daniel, her chewing even slowed down.
Seeing the topic working, Chris continued gently coaxing: "How about this, anyway, we can eat more later, but these in your box are the commemorative first baozi, so leave them for your brother."
"And I can’t finish these three here, but I want to try each flavor. Would you mind sharing half with me?"
