Chapter 546: Chapter 546: Adjusting to the Wind

When Kong Qingfeng asked Xu Xiangbei which medical university he graduated from, Dean Qian felt a bit awkward, afraid that Xu Xiangbei would get angry. He silently blamed Kong Qingfeng, thinking, you’ve really hit the nail on the head with that question. Wasn’t it mentioned that he didn’t attend university? How could you bring up such a sensitive topic?

Xu Xiangbei replied with a calm smile, "Actually, I didn’t attend medical university. I haven’t even been to college." Seeing Xu Xiangbei answer so directly and calmly, Kong Qingfeng smirked to himself, thinking, his skin is really thick, not blushing at all. If you showed even a hint of blushing, I’d give you some face, but you’re too arrogant. When patience wears thin, one must take action. I can’t give you face.

He feigned a curious expression, leaning back in his chair with a confrontational look on his face, "You didn’t attend medical university, forgive my bluntness, but may I ask where Dr. Xu got his medical skills from?"

Sensing Professor Kong’s aggressive demeanor, Xu Xiangbei wasn’t annoyed but instead replied with a playful smile, "Although I didn’t attend medical university, my grandfather taught me medicine from a young age..."

Seeing Kong Qingfeng relentless in his questioning, Dean Qian quickly stepped in to smooth things over, scolding unhappily, "Professor Kong, are you checking household registrations or something, asking so many questions? Have you had too much to drink?"

Dean Qian is a kindly looking old man who usually speaks softly, but his scolding was akin to a normal person speaking loudly, and Kong Qingfeng, having known him for many years, realized he had upset the dean.

Kong Qingfeng was even more displeased inwardly, thinking, how many good things have I given you over the years, and you scold me for a young man!

It seems this young man has some strong backing. A wise man doesn’t fight when the odds are against him; I shouldn’t provoke him now, but I’ll find a chance to get back at him later.

He quickly pretended to act drunk, "Haha, I really must have had too much to drink, that’s why I’m talking too much. Younger Brother Xu, don’t take offense. Young Brother Xu, you’re truly young and promising. From a family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, no wonder your skills are superb. I toast you!"

After clinking glasses with Kong Qingfeng, Xu Xiangbei thought to himself, this Professor Kong clearly wanted to embarrass me. Yet, this guy knows how to change his tune.

After being scolded by Dean Qian, Kong Qingfeng became much more restrained. Xu Xiangbei thought he wouldn’t cause him more trouble, but Kong Qingfeng clearly still had his sights set on him.

Just as the banquet was about to end, Kong Qingfeng smiled and said, "For the free clinic this afternoon, Younger Brother Xu might not be familiar with the process, should I accompany you?"

In fact, free clinics are thankless tasks. All the professors don’t want to spend their personal time with students for a free clinic, yet unexpectedly, Kong Qingfeng today wanted to accompany the students for the free clinic.

Dean Qian, after having drunk quite a bit, did not realize that Kong Qingfeng’s actions were intentionally meant to cause trouble for Xu Xiangbei, thinking he genuinely wanted to help.

Director Zhao adjusted his glasses, having caught onto the dynamics, but said nothing. He’s a people-pleaser and doesn’t want to offend anyone. Besides, even if Kong Qingfeng followed Xu Xiangbei, it wouldn’t cause much trouble for him.

Dean Qian burped drunkenly and smiled, agreeing, "Alright, you’re a senior professor. You must help young people. Go and accompany Dr. Xu to lead the students for the free clinic this afternoon."

Saturday afternoon’s free clinics aren’t mandatory for all students, but those who are interested sign up.

Hearing that Xu Xiangbei would lead students for the free clinic, many students who usually wouldn’t participate in such activities eagerly came along, like Lin Wanyi, Sun Ze, and Lv Junxian.

Someone like Lin Wanyi, a campus beauty and renowned for her elegance, would typically spend such sunny afternoons shopping with friends, buying clothes, cosmetics, and such. Even if she were to become a doctor, she’d want to be a stunning and alluring one.

Sun Ze was even less of an academically focused person. He would never participate in free clinics, and his enrollment in the Traditional Chinese Medicine Academy was just a mistake. Knowing that Xu Xiangbei would lead the students out for a free clinic, he immediately signed up.

It was also Lv Junxian’s first time attending a free clinic. Previously, he would’ve enthusiastically attended President Sun’s speeches.

However, the appearance of Xu Xiangbei also caused one diligent student, who never missed a free clinic, to stay away. Song Yuting took leave in the afternoon, claiming she wasn’t feeling well. Xu Xiangbei knew it was an excuse to avoid him.

The afternoon in autumn was sunny and bright, not a cloud in the sky, with a refreshing breeze.

Many people were out for a walk on the community square that Saturday, and the students from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Academy brought a few chairs and two tables, letting Xu Xiangbei and Professor Kong sit down, putting up the sign for the free clinic.

There was only one sign, which Sun Ze placed on Xu Xiangbei’s table. Lin Wanyi moved her chair closer to Xu Xiangbei, "Dr. Xu, I want to learn from you, watch you take pulses. You promised to teach me."

Seeing Lin Wanyi nestled up to Xu Xiangbei like a kitten, the students gathered around him, admiring him like a deity, almost made Professor Kong die of envy.

Lin Wanyi is a well-renowned campus beauty; young and pretty, with fine and tender skin. Not to mention that spirited young people, even the older professors would drool over her, and although Kong Qingfeng, in his forties, didn’t dare hope for anything with Lin Wanyi, he didn’t want Xu Xiangbei to have the upper hand either.

He reached out and placed the free clinic sign on his table, clearing his throat twice, "Everyone come to me. Dr. Xu is merely a visiting professor; I’ll be in charge here today. Dr. Xu, you have no objections, right?"

Xu Xiangbei laughed, "No objections. Professor Kong is an experienced professor. Of course, you should take charge."

Seeing Xu Xiangbei not vying for authority, Kong Qingfeng nodded in satisfaction, silently praising, at least you know your place. If you dared compete with me, it would’ve been futile for you.

Kong Qingfeng wore a white coat and hung a stethoscope around his neck. Not only is he a professor at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Academy, but he also has a license as a traditional Chinese doctor. Donning the white coat, he looked more like a doctor.

Lin Wanyi and other students smiled warmly, complimenting, "Professor Kong has turned into Dr. Kong."

"Professor Kong looks so handsome in a white coat."

Hearing the students’ praise, Kong Qingfeng glanced smugly at Xu Xiangbei and asked, "Do you have a white coat?"

Xu Xiangbei smiled, "No, I generally don’t wear that kind of clothing."

Hearing Xu Xiangbei sound as though he’s never worn a white coat, Professor Kong snorted through his nose with a teaching tone, "Young man, even if you’re not a doctor, you’re here for a clinic. You’ve got to at least look the part of a doctor."

Kong Qingfeng’s insinuation was to mock Xu Xiangbei for not looking like a doctor, suggesting he should at least pretend to be one.

Xu Xiangbei laughed but didn’t respond to him. Not just anyone who wears a white coat can become a doctor.

Seeing people offering free clinics, some curious elderly folks approached, chattering, wanting the students to check their ailments.

Most of the elders had conditions typical with age, such as back pain, numb hands and feet, allowing the students to take their pulse just for fun. There were no serious illnesses.

The students diligently took the elders’ pulses, discussing the ailments among themselves, often leading to heated debates. That’s when Kong Qingfeng would need to step in, providing the most convincing judgment to stabilize the situation.
