Chapter 544: Chapter 544: Popular Visiting Professor
Faced with Lin Wanyi’s teasing, Xu Xiangbei only smiled slightly and returned to the podium. He understood that any response would be used by Lin Wanyi to show off in front of their classmates. Sometimes, silence is the best solution.
Xu Xiangbei walked back to the podium and glanced at Song Yuting who was sitting in the last row.
Her figure was elegant and her face was delicate and beautiful, yet she seemed so lonely, with no expression on her face. Xiao Qing next to her was saying something, but judging from her absent-minded gaze at the book, she wasn’t really listening to what Xiao Qing was saying.
Xu Xiangbei gently clapped his hands, "Classmates, we should start class now. Let’s stop the chit-chat."
His voice wasn’t loud, but with the audio system on the podium, even a light breath could be heard clearly in every corner of the classroom.
The classroom quickly quieted down. Xu Xiangbei took out his laptop that had been prepared in advance and began the lecture following the pre-made PPT slides.
Most of the slides weren’t made by him; Monica had helped with them. With the aid of these well-prepared slides, his teaching became much easier.
Although his age was not much different from the students listening to him, stories about his background and achievements had spread to every student in the past few days.
They regarded him as a mysterious and suave legendary figure.
When Xu Xiangbei lectured, all the students listened attentively, the spacious classroom echoing with his magnetic and resonant voice.
Yet, there was one person whose mind was never at peace and wasn’t paying full attention — that person was Song Yuting.
She purposely sat in the last row, wanting to keep a peaceful and quiet inner sanctuary away from Xu Xiangbei, but her thoughts became increasingly chaotic.
Looking at Xu Xiangbei’s once-familiar face, she couldn’t help but recall the bits and pieces of high school days with him.
Those memories, which she thought she had long forgotten, were awakened by Xu Xiangbei’s magnetic voice and gentle smile.
Those feelings and memories surged like a flood breaking through a dam.
She remembered how Teacher Li had made Xu Xiangbei get on the podium to read his own essay, yet Xu Xiangbei was like a dried-out toothpaste tube; nothing came out without a hard squeeze.
Xu Xiangbei stood awkwardly on the stage, his face flushed red, stammering, either mispronouncing words or reading the wrong lines. Teacher Li, furious, chased him off the podium halfway through.
But today, wearing a high-end black Armani suit and a microphone, Xu Xiangbei looked like an experienced host, his speech rhythmic, organized, and clear, as if he had transformed into a different person.
The students listened intently, and Xu Xiangbei’s mood relaxed. At first, he was quite nervous, but in the latter half of the class, his teaching style became more relaxed and open, citing jokes and famous quotes, prompting enthusiastic applause from the students.
The girls in the front row, including Lin Wanyi, gazed at him with admiration, cheering for him. Amidst the excited and laughing students, Xu Xiangbei’s gaze remained on Song Yuting.
She was still silent, expressionless. At most, when the entire classroom cheered for Xu Xiangbei, she forced an awkward smile to fit in.
Director Zhao walked in with Dean Qian, Dean Li, and several senior scholars and professors from the school to audit Xu Xiangbei’s lecture.
Initially, they were worried about the lecture’s effectiveness. Although Xu Xiangbei’s medical skills were undeniable, he was young and inexperienced. The professional course content was inherently obscure and difficult, and facing these senior students about to enter clinical internships, it would be hard to convince them without solid knowledge.
What shocked the professors and deans was how surprisingly effective Xu Xiangbei’s lecture was, exceeding their expectations. The students listened to Xu Xiangbei’s lecture with more enthusiasm than when they listened to them teach.
During Xu Xiangbei’s lecture, the students were more like participants in an interactive entertainment program, with every brain cell activated.
Seeing the students so engaged in Xu Xiangbei’s lecture, applauding thunderously, Dean Qian and Dean Li exchanged smiles and felt relieved.
It wasn’t enough for them alone to admire Xu Xiangbei; the experts, professors, and academic directors must unanimously recognize him for it to be truly worthy of praise.
After class, Dean Qian led the professors to shake hands with Xu Xiangbei, smiling brightly, he said, "Dr. Xu, the PPT was well done, and your lecture was excellent. Our decision to choose you as a visiting professor was indeed correct."
Xu Xiangbei felt a bit light-headed with joy, but his face remained serious and calm, "Dean Qian, you’re over-praising me. It’s the students from the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine who have been cooperative and well-prepared."
Seeing Xu Xiangbei being modest and praising the students’ quality, the deans and professors were very pleased.
Praising the students’ quality is like praising the professors’ excellent guidance. The professors who came to audit the lecture felt proud and praised Xu Xiangbei one after another.
Dean Li held Xu Xiangbei’s hand, smiling courteously, "Dr. Xu, yesterday, because of a visiting friend, you left at noon. Today at noon, you must have a meal with us so we can express our thanks to you."
Faced with such warmth, Xu Xiangbei had no choice but to agree, "There’s really no need to be so courteous, but since Dean Li says so, it’s better to follow your lead. If I keep refusing, you’ll think I’m putting on airs. Okay, let’s have lunch together at noon."
Upon seeing Xu Xiangbei agree, Dean Li went cheerfully to report to Dean Qian. Dean Qian gave Dean Li an appreciative look, "Dean Li, why don’t you pick a place for lunch, and call our Dean Sun to see if he has time to join us."
Dean Li quickly made a call to Dean Sun of Earth Sea Hospital, smiling as he asked, "Elder Sun, Old Qian mentioned he’d like to treat you to lunch today. Dr. Xu has already agreed. Do you have the time to attend?"
Dean Li, Dean Qian from the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Dean Sun from Earth Sea Hospital often coordinated due to work and were longtime friends who frequently drank and dined together.
However, Dean Sun couldn’t attend today’s lunch. On the phone, he candidly explained, "Old Li, I have no time today. You accompany Dr. Xu for lunch. How was Dr. Xu’s lecture?"
Dean Li praised, "Elder Sun, you truly have a good eye. Several of our department heads attended his lecture today. Frankly speaking, he taught very well, extremely perfectly."
Dean Sun also breathed a sigh of relief. Though his mind was originally anxious, hearing Dean Li’s high praise of Xu Xiangbei’s lecture, he no longer worried.
He laughed heartily, "As long as you are satisfied. What about those experts and professors? What is their opinion?"
