Chapter 524: Chapter 524: The Last Person

Besides the natural enmity between police and killer, Wind Chime also sensed the deep jealousy Jenny harbored within her heart.

Lu Hong asked warily, "Aren’t you a crew member on the ship? Are you friends with Xu Xiangbei?"

Everyone in the mourning hall gazed at Wind Chime with inquiring eyes; some puzzled, some curious, and some even leering at her ample bosom and perky hips.

Wind Chime nodded and smiled as she replied, "Yes, I’m a crew member on the ship, but I’m not Xu Xiangbei’s friend, merely an acquaintance from a brief meeting."

Lu Mingliang asked, "What are you trying to prove by coming here?"

Wind Chime’s words triggered many people’s sensitive nerves, "I saw the last person who came out of Lu Jingyun’s room."

"Who was it?"

"Who did you see?"

Lu Hong interrupted Wind Chime, his gaze sharp, "You’re Xu Xiangbei’s friend, your words can’t be trusted. The last person must be Xu Xiangbei."

Facing Lu Hong’s skepticism, Wind Chime appeared quite composed, smiling, "You may not believe me, but I will have Lu Jingyun tell you himself who the last person to leave his room was."

Wind Chime’s words elicited laughter from many, "Our Elder is dead, how can he speak."

"Girl, you’re so beautiful, turns out you’re a swindler."

"Talking nonsense, our Elder is dead, are you mocking our intelligence?"

The Lu Family members chattered around Wind Chime, but she had no interest in interacting with them, sneering, "Though people die, the soul stays in the body for seven days. After the first seven, they realize they’re dead and head to the Naihe Bridge to drink Meng Po Soup and reincarnate."

The women watching over the coffin, Lu Jingyun’s wives, instinctively drew back their necks and took a few steps back, seemingly believing her.

Lu Yao displayed a disdainful look, as a young person raised in the new era, she would never believe in such superstitions. She sneered, "Ridiculous, like attracts like. Xu Xiangbei’s friends are no good either, trying to con us, how immature."

"You don’t believe it? Then let’s give it a try."

Some busybodies, curious about a dead Elder supposedly speaking, said, "We want to see how you try this."

Jenny, standing next to Xu Xiangbei, tugged on his sleeve, "Did you hire this woman to put on an act? It’s too fake, having a corpse speak. How can you expect me to cover this lie for you?"

Xu Xiangbei grinned, "No need for you to cover for me, just watch quietly."

Wind Chime strode up to Lu Jingyun’s coffin, bowing deeply and clasping her hands together, she muttered, "Elder Lu, please forgive me for being presumptuous. I only want the truth to come to light and find your killer, hence I ask the soul to speak. Please grant your permission."

Wind Chime frantically nodded as if receiving Lu Jingyun’s permission and conversed with his spirit, "Rest assured, I will reveal the murderer and avenge you."

The Lu Family’s women half-believingly watched Wind Chime. From their tense expressions and their hands occasionally clasped in silent prayer, it was apparent they somewhat believed that Elder Lu’s soul still lingered in the hall.

Lu Yao, however, wore a cold expression, refusing to believe Wind Chime, convinced that Wind Chime was colluding with Xu Xiangbei to cause trouble.

Standing by the coffin, Wind Chime performed actions like a Daoist in a TV show, her feet stepping in a seven-star and eight-trigram pattern, hands swiftly forming a Dharma Seal, muttering continuously with her fingers tracing an arc in the air, pointing lightly at Lu Jingyun in the coffin.

Suddenly, a cold wind blew in, Lu Jingyun in the coffin sat up abruptly, scaring his wives into screams, with some timid men following suit.

Although Lu Jingyun kept his mouth shut, he made a sound identical to his usual voice, pointing his arm sharply at Lu Yao, "The murderer, I treated you two like my own children, even divided my estate with you. You dare to kill me like this? Return my life, return my life."

Everyone in the hall was taken aback. Lu Yao shrieked in fear, running out of the mourning hall. Though initially disbelieving, hearing Lu Jingyun’s voice and the sudden pointing shattered her emotional fortress.

She had barely taken a few steps when Xu Xiangbei grabbed her arm.

He pushed her toward the coffin, "Miss Lu Yao, your godfather treated you so well, why did you kill him? He calls for you to accompany him."

Lu Yao fell beside the coffin. Seeing Lu Jingyun’s made-up but grim face made her scream uncontrollably. She lacked the strength to stand and run, only able to crawl backward, trying to distance herself from the coffin, fearing Lu Jingyun would leap out at her.

Her voice became hoarse, "No, I didn’t kill you, it’s not me. It was Lu Hong who killed you, he stabbed your heart with a knife, go find him. I only fed you bruise-healing wine."

The whole scene erupted in uproar, with Lu Hong’s face turning grim. He silently cursed that he had already agreed on a story with Lu Yao, yet, women were just naturally timid, confessing everything when frightened.

He bit his lip resentfully, his face twisted, pulling out a gun again, aiming its dark barrel at Xu Xiangbei, "It’s because of you. If not for you, Uncle Yun wouldn’t have suspected my affair with Lu Yao. I wouldn’t have feared him finding out about us, wouldn’t have killed him. You’re to blame for all my losses."

Xu Xiangbei smirked, "You’re one to accuse. You’re not only a bastard who killed your own uncle but also a coward, not a man. You’re blaming me for your evil deeds. A real man should own up to his wrongdoings and accept punishment."

"Even if I die, I’ll take someone else with me. Xu Xiangbei, don’t blame me."

Just as Lu Hong grinned wildly, about to pull the trigger, Xu Xiangbei suddenly flashed a cold light, an Iron Ball shot out sharply, hitting the muzzle of Lu Hong’s gun.

Bang, a clear gunshot echoed, causing everyone to sweat bullets for Xu Xiangbei. Jenny even wanted to rush over to pull Xu Xiangbei away but was too late.

However, after Lu Hong fired, the situation stunned everyone; the bullet hadn’t even left the barrel when it bounced back from the Iron Ball’s strong impact, shooting back through the gun and hitting Lu Hong squarely in the forehead.

Lu Hong’s forehead had a big bloody hole. He stared incredulously at Xu Xiangbei, slowly collapsing backward, ending his wicked life.
