Chapter 508: The Bounded Field’s Weakness
The purple explosion surged outward with unparalleled ferocity, sweeping across the battlefield. Undead of all shapes and sizes—skeletal warriors, ghouls, abominations, and wraiths—disintegrated in an instant.
The energy hit them like a tidal wave, and in an instant, they disintegrated into nothingness. Bones turned to dust, rotting flesh vaporized, and ethereal forms vanished.
The blast carved a massive clearing in the bounded field, obliterating the teeming mass of over 10,000 undead creatures. The ground was scorched and barren, with a fine ash settling over the desolate landscape.
And yet, the only reason the devastation did not spread further was because Arthur, with immense control, had halted the surge.
Standing at the epicentre, he turned around and found Evan holding up the two goddesses in the sky, while Idrilla stared at him slack-jawed outside of the range of his attack.
With a wry smile, he teleported right in front of her and swung down his blade.
Idrilla responded on instinct, raising her scythe to block the sword and Arthur’s voice entered her ears.
"Why so surprised? Didn’t you say quantity was ineffective against us?"
"...it should have at least held you back for a longer time."
She responded with a strained expression, barely fending off Arthur’s strikes. To make matters worse, Evan dashed in from the side and she had to send reborn adversaries to slow him down.
This momentarily took her attention off Arthur and allowed the boy to nearly disarm her. Even though her scythe did not leave her hands, she still suffered two slashes across her right arm and a stab wound in her lower stomach.
She instinctively used shadow step to teleport away and when she found that her teleportation worked seamlessly, she looked up towards Arthur and saw the boy smiling at her.
’He’s toying with me...’
Idrilla knew Arthur could control space, and he was powerful enough to interrupt her teleportation. He did it before and she knew he could do it again, so it stood to reason that her teleportation was only successful because he allowed her.
Without hesitation, she ordered Dominik and the demigod Necromancer to send new hordes of Undead against the two boys, also telling them to use whatever trump cards they had.
Idrilla’s order made Dominik frown, but as he was reborn under the effects of her Bounded Field, he could not go against her.
He released his maximum death energy, far more power than he possessed when he was alive and manifested gigantic four-ringed magic circles around his lone figure.
They were arranged in a grid format, one on either side, one above each of the two on his sides, and then one above his head.
The magic circles were brimming with death essence manipulated by his ’Child of Death’ Unique Series skill, along with dark magic and a few non-attributed magic symbols within it.
All five of them were almost identical to each other, anyone seeing them, there was no difference.
No one would even think about looking for differences in this situation.
No one, except a certain Rogue Hero.
The moment those circles manifested, Evan snapped his head in Arthur’s direction and shouted out at the top of his voice.
"ARTHUR!!!!!!!"
"?!"
Arthur heard his name screamed and turned toward Evan, thinking the Rogue Hero was in danger. However, Evan seemed fine, leaving Arthur confused about why Evan had called out.
Dominik Velak, on the other hand, paled rapidly as Evan grinned evilly.
On the day Evan killed him, he had used this Trump card. But the undead he wanted to Summon was damaged upon emergence because Evan had done something similar to what he was about to do.
Shouting at the top of his voice, Evan told Arthur two words.
"BOTTOM LEFT!!!!!!!!!!"
"NOO!!!!"
Dominik reacted with a horrified shout and Arthur immediately understood the assignment.
He kicked off the ground, blitzed forward at top speed, and crossed the hordes of undead, reaching Dominik’s position in an instant.
|¬Anti-gravity. ¬|
The Demon called Zacular tried to block Arthur, but that single command sent him flying up into the air, allowing Arthur to use Celestia and destroy the Bottom Left Magic circle.
**KAABOOOOMMM!!!!!!
The explosion obliterated all the magic circles, blowing Dominik away. He crashed to the ground, coughing up black blood from the backlash of his spell being destroyed.
Roaring in rage, he summoned another thousand Dullahans and sent them towards Arthur, but the boy was undaunted by the numbers.
Holding up Celestia, he asked the blade.
"Let’s see how many Dullahan Heads I can stack on you."
[Really, Master?]
Ignoring the Sword’s exasperated tone, Arthur charged into the horde, hacking and slicing away at the Dullahans, till he emerged from the other side with five heads stacked on Celestia.
"Less than I thought..."
Arthur remarked as he used Annihilation Sphere with his Pseudo-Authority of Destruction, turning all undead within a kilometre radius of his position to dust.
The powerful destruction energy attracted the attention of Idrilla who was dominating Artemisia in combat, as she felt that her Bounded Field’s boundary walls had been torn apart!
"I spy a little hole in space..."
Arthur looked right at Idrilla, before sticking his hand outside the spatial tear.
"..."
Idrilla understood that Arthur was baiting her to come after him. But the last time she did that, she lost an arm.
’And I haven’t drawn up enough power to summon the Final ’Notable Adversaries’ yet...’
Her gaze remained on him, even though Artemisia and Beatrix took the chance to run away. After a minute of silence, Arthur frowned.
"You’re no fun."
He grabbed a random Dullahan and tossed its body halfway into the spatial tear, as such, when the Bounded Field’s auto repair kicked in, it split the Dullahan in two.
As he did that, the Demon Zacular attacked him. Arthur dodged the strike, grabbed Zacular by the neck, slammed him to the ground, lifted him up and then choke-slammed him once more.
Then, he spun Zacular’s body around, stomped his foot on the demon’s back, and brutally ripped off his wings.
"GAARAAAAAGHH!!!!"
Zacular’s blood-curdling scream echoed as blood splattered everywhere, but Arthur just discarded the wings and grabbed the back of Zacular’s neck.
Slamming the demon’s face into the ground, he ran forward, dragging Zacular’s face along the dirt until he reached Dominik’s location.
Arthur halted and used an Annihilation Sphere to obliterate the surrounding skeleton knights. He then activated ’Strength Enhancement,’ and infused cosmic energy into his arms.
Next, he pressed his foot on Zacular’s upper back and used both hands to rip the demon’s head off his neck.
He then rerouted the cosmic energy in his arms to the ripped-off head, tossing it in Dominik’s direction.
"Destruction Nova."
The severed head glowed with an ominous light and exploded in a brilliant burst of destructive energy faster than Dominik could react. The explosion engulfed him, leaving him battered, bruised, and reeling from the force of the blast.
Arthur charged in through the explosion and grabbed Domnik’s neck, jumping out of the smoke and flames as he called out to Evan.
Hearing Arthur’s call, Evan turned around and upon seeing the Progenitor rushing towards him with a wounded Dominik, he quickly understood what Arthur was aiming for.
Evan looked at the demigod Necromancer whose face he had punched the living daylights out of and shrugged, turned in Arthur’s direction and dashed towards him.
"Swap?"
"Swap!"
With Evan’s confirmation, he flung the half-dead demigod to Arthur and Arthur responded by tossing the half-dead Dominik to him.
Jumping up, Evan summoned his sword and coated it in as much destructive energy as he could muster.
He then stabbed the blade through Dominik’s neck, driving it through his torso and penetrating his heart along the way, before emerging from the opposite end of his body.
**BOOMM!!!
The two came crashing down to the ground with a loud explosion, sending a small cloud of black dust into the air.
Simultaneously, Arthur summoned Celestia and swirled his temporal and destructive energies around the semi-transparent blade, thrusting it forward and unleashing a torrent of purple light.
The torrent swallowed the demigod’s form, exploding right after with a bright flash of light.
When the light died down, there was a giant hole in the ground, roughly about a hundred metres in width and a bit less in depth.
As for the demigod who once existed there, he was vaporized with not even an atom left.
Unsummoning Celestia, Arthur shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly—exactly the same way he did when he originally killed this demigod Necromancer.
"Well, that’s a wrap."
Approaching the crater where Evan was, Arthur looked down and saw the Rogue Hero removing his sword from the dead Dominik’s body.
"That’s how you killed him before?"
"Yep. You also completely vaporized that demigod."
Arthur nodded in affirmation and extended his right hand in a gesture that Evan mirrored, resulting in a friendly high-five between the two boys.
"I really hated that guy’s guts..."
Evan commented about the Necromancer he just killed, but Arthur’s focus was not on his words but on the man’s dissipating body.
|¬Hey, Idrilla. ¬|
He spoke with his Faux-True voice so that no matter how far Idrilla was, she would hear him. Then he made a request.
|¬Summon that Necromancer back, I wanna check something. ¬|
Arthur’s words were met with silence, but he didn’t mind and kept speaking.
|¬What about Zach? The Nemo Celestial? Or that Malevolent god of Darkness? What was his name again, I think Layla said it was Kulir or so...? ¬|
With spatial power, he locked onto her position and turned his gaze in her direction, observing her facial expressions as he asked.
|¬What’s wrong? Why aren’t you bringing them back? They’re what you call ’Notable Adversaries’, are they not?
That’s why they had Legendary Level power even though they were weaker than that when they died. ¬|
Zach and the demigod Necromancer were both Superior Grandmasters at death. But after being made ’Notable Adversaries’, they possessed Legendary Power.
Arthur felt that there was a catch to this, and Evan noticed it too from his words.
’Come to think of it, I have not seen the reborn Xakon, Maude, and Bhak again after I killed them...’
Looking towards Arthur, he asked.
"You thinking what I’m thinking?"
"Definitely."
Arthur responded to Evan, and the both of them turned to Idrilla and began asking one after the other.
"If I had to make a guess..."
"If someone you designate as a ’Notable Adversary’ is killed..."
Simultaneously, they finished.
""You can’t summon them again, can you?""
