Chapter 370: Law of Summoning [Bonus]

His affinities with these laws were too high and the amount of energy from these laws in his body was so much that his own energy could not influence them entirely.

He then coated his finger with the law of extinction’s power and drew a straight line in the air, ’tearing’ the space there in the process.

"That’s pretty dangerous, all right.

Makes sense why everyone tries to dodge my ’Extinction Slash’."

The boy ignored the law of summoning and spent the next thirty minutes figuring a way to infuse the energy of the law of time into the technique to make it stronger and faster.

He didn’t want his opponents to even have a chance to dodge.

Naturally, he met with great success and did a few test runs with the clouds before returning his focus to the law of summoning.

His position on the clock tower was quite conspicuous, but he had taken note of that and laid down a concealment formation to prevent people from detecting.

Unless a Sovereign came close, they would not sense him. But if a Sovereign was coming that close, he would have sensed them and teleported away long before they could reach.

He mixed cosmic energy with his spatial perception to sense ripples in the ambient space, so it was quite difficult for him to be sneaked up on as far as this technique was active.

’Difficult, but not impossible.’

Like so he continued his law comprehension session for hours, hoping to get a hang of summoning’s basics, with every intention to take classes from Alvey later.

In the middle of this, he entered a daze and began random strings of words.

"manifest intention beckoning reality dimensions converge distant resonance known boundaries transcend ballet cosmic profound."

He went silent for a moment, before continuing his mutters.

"Intention manifests reality, beckoning energies from distant dimensions to converge in harmonious resonance, embrace the profound truth of every invocation that forges connections that transcend the boundaries of the known.

One becomes the conductor and the vessel, sending forth whispers of desire resonating across dimensions and drawing forth entities attuned to the seeker’s resonance."

Arthur suddenly snapped out of his daze and noticed that at some point, he had begun floating in the air. He plopped back onto the bench he was sitting on and looked at the crystal in his hand with a dumbfounded gaze.

"Could it be that I’m pretty compatible with this? I only intended to use it to keep up my ’Demon Summoner’ appearance, though?"

Just as he asked himself that, he sensed a presence ascending the clock tower, about to teleport away when he noticed who it was.

At that realisation, he sat back down and tossed the crystal into his subspace, pulling up his status window and scrolling through his skill until the person reached his location.

"Huh?! Arthur?!"

"Yo."

In contrast to her shaken demeanour upon noticing another person in the darkened room, Arthur calmly greeted her with a wave of his hand, before returning his focus to his status.

"How didn’t I sense you here?"

"Not to brag, but I’m pretty good at concealing stuff."

The boy replied with a shrug, and the new entrant, Rachel, remained silent for a moment before sighing softly. She took a seat beside him and asked.

"Did you sleep at all?"

"Nope."

Arthur glanced at his watch and saw that the time was nearly 5 am, meaning he had spent over 4 hours on the law of summoning.

A drop in the ocean, when compared to the time he had put into other laws, but still enough for him to do some pretty basic summoning.

Sleep wasn’t really a necessity for him as a Legendary, and he could go for weeks without it, not that he planned to. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Both he and Rachel sat on the clock tower in silence, looking over at the high-rise buildings in the distance and the city lights.

’That’s my Target, huh?’

With that thought, he looked up from where he was seated and at the night sky, looking at the planet Aramis’ natural satellite that fit perfectly within a circle formed by stars.

"The moon is quite beautiful isn’t it?"

"Yes, it is.

’The gods watch us from the moon so we should be good kids and sleep tight’—was what Ger and the others used to coax me and the other children to sleep all those years ago."

She spoke with a nostalgic tone and a light smile on her face, but Arthur’s interest was in the first part of her statement.

’The gods watch them from the moon? That’s an interesting piece of lore.’

"Hey, Rachel."

"Yeah?"

She turned towards him with a questioning tone when he called out to her, her brown hair fell in waves over her face.

"You know what, never mind."

The boy chose against speaking about his suspicions about her childhood friend, Ger, especially as he currently still had little to no information about the man.

"Wait...what?

You don’t just call out to someone with such a serious voice then say ’never mind’!"

"I just did."

Rachel’s brow twitched repeatedly and she was about to speak when Arthur brought his palm up to her face and used his thumb to wipe something off her eyes.

"Were you about to cry? Oh my, seems Major Ger was right. You ARE a cry-baby."

"I wasn’t about to cry! Also, why is that the part of our conversation you choose to remember!"

Arthur only raised a brow while pointing to his eyes, and getting the hint, Rachel held her hands up to her eyes and noticed traces of water beside them.

"huh?"

The girl was clearly confused about why this happened, but the culprit who had tricked her using water magic, silently held his hand over his mouth and laughed.

"Cry-baby."

"!!"

Arthur had his fun teasing her for a while, before eventually revealing to her that he was the one who created the fake tears when he touched her face the first time.

Naturally, Rachel didn’t take this confession lightly and attempted to knock him on the head ’lightly’ with a metal rod lying on the ground not too far from them.

After a narrow escape that involved an insincere apology from Arthur and his moving to the other end of the clock tower rooftop while using his energy to push her away, the boy posed a question to the still-annoyed girl.

"Those guys, Ger and the others. You really like them, huh?"

"Isn’t that obvious by now? I’ve known them since I was four and they were basically the ones who raised me."

The way she spoke, Arthur could tell how good the relationship between them was, and said relationship had been rekindled with their meeting now.

He did want to know what had caused her to be orphaned in the first place, but it might be a pretty sensitive topic for her so he decided against it.

Instead, he chose to ask a question he believed to be far less harmful. However, the answers to the question he originally intended to ask, and the one he ended up asking could not be any more related.

"Hey, Rachel. What’s your ’goal’ in joining the Army?"

"..."

The girl went silent for a moment when he asked her this, and her annoyance at him tricking her completely vanished from her head.

She stared at him in silence for a few minutes before taking a deep breath and speaking.

"My ’goal’, huh?

If I was to sum it all up in two words, then it’d be ’Gaining Power’."
