Chapter 279: Vako City II

"Rumbling of Heaven."

**SWISH!!

"GAAHHHHHHHH!!!!"

Edward’s next words were accompanied by an upward arcing slash that came from the monster’s right side and sliced off the two arms that were stretched outwards.

"Rumbling of Earth."

What followed was another arcing slash that came downwards diagonally, slicing the troll’s body from top right to bottom left.

The parasite in the middle was also slashed in two, perishing instantly under the combined light and lightning magic power infused in the blade.

Edward’s figure holding his sword could be seen as he completed his attack motions, completely severing the monster’s body in two.

It was then that something absurd happened.

The brown-haired and blue-eyed human boy failed to stop his sword in time, and the tip of the weapon’s blade touched the ground, slightly.

*TAP

**BOOOMMM!!!!

There was a loud explosion as the earth shattered and fractured open, creating a fissure that spread out for a hundred meters.

All the monsters who were unfortunate enough to be standing in that area were swallowed up by the large giant desiccation crack that had formed on the ground.

"Ah...fuck."

The boy cursed out not because he had killed the monsters, but because the part of the ground that cracked open, happened to be a certain godslayer girl was standing.

"Wait, Esna, I can explain-OWW!"

He did not know how she did it, but one moment the girl was falling down the crack along with the other monsters, and the next she had appeared behind him and smacked him in the back of the head.

"Control your power, you idiot!"

Esna screamed out as she internally thanked her stars that she had learned and mastered the short-distance teleportation magic spell: Blink, in the past two years.

On the other hand, Nicole who turned around after hearing the commotion, ignored the gaping jaws of the adventurers and knights as she stabbed the chest of another blade wraith and twisted her water lance in its chest.

"Coalesce."

She snapped her fingers as she called out, generating a large mass of water above the crack, intending on pouring it down on the monsters that fell inside.

They were grandmaster realm existences after all, there was no way that they’d die just by falling down a small crater that was barely a few dozen metres deep...even if they were also hit with a burst of light and lightning magic alongside it.

In fact, one of the large multi-tentacled monsters had already begun attempting to crawl out, stretching out its long tentacles in all directions, trying to grab something to use and pull itself out.

Sadly;

**BANG! BANG!! BANG!!

Layla casually pulled out her twin pistols and shot the tentacles with paralysis bullets that immobilized the tentacles and forced them to drop to the ground weakly.

**ZUZUZUZU

The mass of water Nicole created swayed as it changed shape and increased in size lightly, before pouring down into the crack and drenching all the monsters inside it.

"This seems like the best time to add a tiny little touch of lightning."

Edward rubbed his palms together, with golden lightning sparks snaking around his arms as she was about to activate his magic, only to hear Nicole cast a spell he hadn’t seen her do in quite a while.

[Water Magic: Water Depth 3,000 meters]

The girl skipped the first two milestones and went straight for the third, giving the monsters the torture of feeling the pressure of water at 3000 metres below sea level on their bodies.

The ground trembled as the pressure of the water caused the already shattered earth to break up even more, with the fissure expanding ever so slightly.

However, Nicole prevented that from happening as she cancelled her spell a few seconds later, after confirming with Undine that all the monsters, especially the tentacle one, had succumbed to death.

"Please fill up the crack, Esna."

"Okey dokey!"

The godslayer girl gave a light-hearted reply as she used earth magic to fill up the fissure in the ground, burying the monsters in the process after Nicole had drained out the water.

"You’ve gotten better at handling that spell, haven’t you?"

Layla asked as she pointed her gun to the sky and shot multiple times, after which a gryphon’s body dropped down on the ground behind her.

She released another three shots to the poor monster as she walked towards Nicole, while her other hand was shooting at the other Gryphon that was flying in the opposite direction, presumably trying to run away.

"Hmm."

Nicole only gave a low hum in reply while deactivating her healing magic spell as she had healed the wounds of the adventurers and knights to the highest level she could.

Esna and Edward were still bickering on the other side as they made short work of the remaining few monsters.

While Esna turned the monsters into porcupines with her multiple lightning spears, Edwards simply blew away every trace of the monster’s bodies with each slash of his sword.

"Well, when those two are done, that’d be all of the monsters."

"Yeah."

It was then that the aged inferior stage grandmaster and his squad that they had left behind finally caught up, meeting the scene of a concluded battle save the two who were arguing about something in front of the last unfortunate orc monster.

Edward who had deactivated his technique, stabbed his sword into the thing’s legs to prevent it from moving while Esna used light magic spears to stab its palms and pinned it to the ground with light spears.

"I’m telling you; we should kill this thing.

There are plenty of others that you can experiment on."

"But this one is different! It’s mutated to the point where it can delicately control the amount of death essence it’s using, unlike the others.

I’m sure there are other-"

**BANG! BANG!!

Cutting off Esna were two gunshots courtesy of a certain green-eyed girl who snapped her fingers right after, causing the bullets embedded in the orc’s head and chest to explode, splashing blood and brain matter all over.

"Really, Layla?"

"Sorry girl, but he’s right.

Besides, now’s not the time to experiment "

"Fine..."

Esna agreed dejectedly as she disable the thin light barrier she put on herself to prevent the monster’s black blood from splashing on her.

Edward on the other hand, was unfortunately drenched in the smelly liquid as at the same instant Esna created a barrier to protect herself, she used magic to interfere with his own attempt, resulting in the blood slashing on his face.

"BUT WHY?!"

"It’s payback."

Leaving that kind of reply, Esna went to go join Layla and Nicole who were now discussing with the group of men and women who were defending the small city beforehand.

At the forefront, was the lord of the City who went by the title of Count Vako. He was a superior stage master realm and one of the city’s strongest combatants.

Most of the other soldiers, knights and adventurers were all intermediate or inferior stage masters, save the captains and the top-level adventurers in the grandmaster realm.

Things were a bit awkward as they felt a bit of fear towards the two girls, but they composed themselves and started off by offering their gratitude for the help.

"I do not know who you are or what your affiliation is, but thank you for coming to our aid."

"You’re welcome."

The Count bowed his head as he spoke, much to the surprise of the knights, but they said nothing and joined their lord in bowing their heads, as they knew their city was done for if the monsters ever broke through and got to them.

Although Gade was a world with low realm inhabitants, it did not change the fact that grandmaster realm existences had the destructive capability to wipe out an average-sized city at full power.

Their city was basically done for if those intermediate grandmaster realm monsters had gotten through and attacked the thousands of inhabitants.

"Count Vako, it’s been a while."

"Indeed, it has, Lord Ady." 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

The old grandmaster knight who told Layla’s group about the city greeted the Count, something that had the effect of lowering the Count’s wariness towards them.

"It seems these harbingers of decay and death have reached this part of the empire, huh?"

"Harbinger of decay? Is that what that strange worms in the monster’s chests are called?"

"It’s just a name I called them, Count Vako. It still does not change the fact that they are indeed Harbingers of decay.

My squad was attacked by droves of them earlier, however, we were saved by these four.

I’m sure you’ve realised not to let their ages fool you as they are even more powerful than we are."

Ady spoke to the Count as he watched Esna and Layla torch the monster corpses and turn them to ashes.

"So young yet they are already superior grandmasters.

Are they geniuses from the capital or something?"

"I’m afraid not. To be honest, I don’t really know where they came from. They just suddenly descended from the skies while my squad was in a tight spot against those monsters.

Two of them seem to be of a race with wings so they are capable of flight."
