The entire room was a vast expanse of ice, the glistening surfaces reflecting a cold, unforgiving aura. Wen Ran’s eyes darted around desperately, searching for anything—any sign—that could help him get out of this frozen hell. The silence was overwhelming, broken only by the sound of his labored breathing and the faint, unnerving crackle of the ice shifting. His body trembled violently, yet his mind refused to accept defeat.

Think, think! Don’t fall asleep, stay awake! Wen Ran screamed in his mind. But his body was betraying him. The cold seeped into his bones, and his eyelids grew heavier by the second. He could feel his body shutting down, his senses dimming like a fading light. He knew if he allowed himself to fall into unconsciousness, he would never wake up again. I can’t die here, he thought fiercely. I’ve already had my second chance. I won’t waste it.

His breath became shallow, the cold creeping into his chest, tightening around his heart. Damned system, he muttered weakly, barely able to summon the energy to speak. Take as many years from me as you want, but please… I need help. But the system, ever silent, offered no response.

Wen Ran’s knees buckled, and he collapsed to the icy floor, his vision blurring. The fire inside him, his burning will to survive, was the only thing keeping him from succumbing to the cold. His mind spun with frustration, but the exhaustion from fighting the freezing air, from pushing against his body’s natural response, weighed heavily on him. I can’t let this be the end…

Time felt distorted. An hour passed. Then two. He counted every second with the painful clarity of someone on the brink of death. His body was no longer his own; his limbs were encased in frost, the blackened skin signaling frostbite. He could no longer move, his muscles too stiff and frozen. Yet even as his body seemed to fail him, his mind refused to give in. He knew, deep in his soul, that he couldn’t escape without finding a way out of this. He wasn’t going to let himself fall into the ice and be forgotten, crippled and broken.

The air in the room grew colder still, but Wen Ran’s resolve burned brighter. As long as I get out of here... there must be a way. His breath was ragged, but his heart still beat strong, the fire of his will lighting the way even as the cold threatened to snuff it out.

"Commendable will, you’re not just some random youngster, are you?" Suddenly, a soft, almost melodic voice echoed through the icy walls of the room. It was a woman’s voice, so gentle it could melt the heart of any man, as if her words alone could erase every burden, every problem, and invite one into a peaceful slumber.

Even Wen Ran felt the effect, his eyes growing heavy. The warmth of her voice tempted him to close them, but he forced them open with sheer will. Who is that vixen trying to kill me? His thoughts raced, the fire within him refusing to be snuffed out by such tricks.

"Who are you..." Wen Ran said, his voice weak but still filled with defiance. He wasn’t about to be manipulated—he would survive no matter what.

"Hahaha..." A soft, melodic laugh echoed in the room, so gentle it seemed to wrap around him, easing the cold that gripped his bones. The temperature around him slowly began to rise, and with it, the harsh chill he had been fighting against eased. It wasn’t much, but the warmth was a blessing. "I’m not a vixen, young man. I’m merely a broken soul of a woman who didn’t know better in life."

Wen Ran blinked in surprise. A broken soul? His thoughts whirled. Did she just read my mind? He had to tread carefully. Despite his confusion, the warmth she had brought made him feel more at ease. What he didn’t realize was that the temperature had indeed risen—by about twenty degrees, and though it wasn’t entirely warm yet, the shift was enough to make him believe that it had. The air felt less biting, a welcome change after the unbearable cold, though it still lingered in the negative.

"What do you want from me? You wouldn’t have saved me if I was useless to you," Wen Ran muttered, his voice weak. He felt a little better now, but his body was still drained, and he could barely summon any strength.

"You’re also smart," the woman’s voice responded, her words carrying a certain weight that seemed to make the very air around them tremble. "How unusual for someone your age..."

Wen Ran felt a strange vibration ripple through the room as the voice continued, "I was testing you. I had to be sure I felt the right aura... that you are the one I’ve been waiting for."

Those words sent a chill down Wen Ran’s spine. What do you mean by that? he thought, trying to steady his breath. He was suddenly filled with an unsettling feeling. What is it on me that could have awakened her soul?

His mind raced back to the mysterious presence in his dantian, something he still didn’t fully understand. Was it this strange force within him that had triggered her attention? He had no answers, only more questions, but for now, he was left in the cold, unsure of what would come next.

"Haha, you are right," the woman’s voice chuckled softly, almost as if she were lost in thought. "I’m very curious about what hides within you. That thing... it keeps telling me your body is capable of housing my inheritance. How mysterious. A boy who can control both Yin and Yang finally appears in this world. This will break the old fools who trapped me here..."

Her words were filled with a mixture of awe for Wen Ran and a bitter hatred for the ones who had sealed her away, dooming her to a lonely existence. The venom in her voice was unmistakable, a deep-seated resentment that had festered over untold years.
