Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Unpredictable girl’s heart

"Evan, you’re finally up! If you don’t get up soon, the lunch I personally made will get cold!"

Emma walked up to Evan with a smile. She glanced curiously at Mia’s door and asked, "Evan, Mia still hasn’t woken up?"

"You personally cooked lunch?" Evan looked at Emma in disbelief. In his memory, this was the first time Emma had ever cooked.

"Yeah! What’s wrong? Is there a problem? I made it specially for you!" Emma proudly pushed Evan toward the stairs. "Hurry up and try my cooking!"

Evan felt a warm, happy feeling in his chest.

Emma had put on light makeup today and was wearing the dress he bought her yesterday. She looked even more charming and beautiful.

Remembering how Emma had kissed him last night, Evan grew bolder.

He suddenly reached out and pulled her into his arms. He looked deeply into her blushing face and leaned in to kiss her.

"Brother-in-law! Don’t push your luck!" Emma quickly put her finger on his lips to stop him. Her soft, slender body twisted flexibly and easily slipped out of his embrace.

"Brother-in-law, don’t forget — you’re my sister’s husband. We can’t do anything that would betray my sister. No matter how much you like me, you have to control your feelings from now on. There’s a saying: act on your feelings, but stop at propriety. From now on, we both need to restrain ourselves. If you keep doing this, I’ll have to start avoiding you, okay?"

Emma spoke playfully but seriously, gently reminding him.

Evan immediately understood what she meant.

Emma did have feelings for him. She was attracted to him too.

But because of their relationship — brother-in-law and sister-in-law — doing anything too intimate would go against ethics and morality.

So Emma didn’t want to betray her sister or destroy the family.

In the end, she chose to keep distance from Evan and turn her feelings into normal family affection.

"Act on your feelings, but stop at propriety!"

The kiss she gave him yesterday was probably her final moment of closeness before she decided to completely lock away her feelings for him.

Realizing this, Evan felt a wave of disappointment.

The feeling of uncertainty and longing made his heart ache sharply — even more painful than secretly crushing on the school beauty back in high school.

Of course Evan didn’t want to just be a gentleman and "act on feelings but stop at propriety."

But he understood that right now, he absolutely could not rush things.

In moments like this, he had to wait patiently for the right opportunity.

An opportunity that would make Emma let go of ethics and shame, and impulsively give in completely.

"I’m sorry, Emma. I was too impulsive." Evan looked at Emma with a sad expression, then pointed at Mia’s room and said, "Emma, go check on Mia. That silly girl is probably still upset about yesterday. Comfort her and get her to eat something. It’s not good for her to stay hungry."

Evan really wanted to know what kind of state Mia was in and how close she felt to him right now.

If Mia remembered what happened last night and was planning to expose her disgusting brother-in-law and ruin his life, then he wanted it to happen quickly!

If Mia acted normal and didn’t remember anything, then he could finally relax.

"Mia! Get up already! Why are you still in bed? Open the door!"

Emma was much more direct than Evan. She banged hard on Mia’s door and shouted impatiently:

"Dead girl! Either you’re out causing trouble or hiding in your room playing games all day! Are you trying to become a monk? You’re not even eating! Come out right now!"

"I know, I know! Stop knocking! I’m already up!" Mia’s annoyed voice came from inside.

A moment later, Mia suddenly opened the door and walked out with a gloomy face. She glanced coldly at Evan, then said to Emma, "I’m hungry. Let’s go eat."

[Intimacy: -90 (Disgust)]

"It’s over..." Evan felt a loud buzz in his head. Cold sweat immediately broke out on his forehead.

When he saw Mia’s status and her intimacy with him had dropped to -90 (Disgust), Evan immediately understood — Mia had been conscious last night!

Even if she didn’t remember everything clearly, she definitely had some vague memory of what he did to her.

Evan once again prepared himself for complete social death.

He even closed his eyes in despair.

But the scene he expected — Mia exposing him in front of Emma and angrily scolding him — never happened.

Nothing he imagined occurred.

"Brother-in-law..." Mia called him softly, then walked past him like she didn’t even see him and headed downstairs.

Not only did Mia not expose what Evan did to her last night, she even deliberately acted completely normal.

Evan stood there stunned as he watched her go down the stairs.

"Brother-in-law? What are you spacing out for? Come eat!" Emma tugged on Evan’s arm, confused, and pulled him downstairs.

From Mia’s status, she definitely had some awareness last night!

She definitely remembered at least some of the dirty things he did to her.

But Mia showed no intention of saying anything. She even acted like everything was normal — like she didn’t know anything at all.

Why was she doing this?

Evan had already prepared himself for social death.

But nothing happened. It felt like he punched cotton — he didn’t know how to react.

"Brother-in-law, this is the lunch I specially made for you and Mia today! Come try it! Tell me how my cooking is!"

As soon as they reached the dining table, Emma looked at Evan with sparkling eyes full of expectation and handed him chopsticks and a bowl of rice.

Evan looked at the "dark cuisine" on the table and his face immediately darkened.

Emma had clearly put in a lot of effort. She made a whole table of dishes.

But every single dish looked like a burnt black lump. Could this even be eaten?

Evan swallowed hard and picked up a piece of burnt sweet and sour pork ribs. He took a bite.

A bitter, burnt taste immediately hit his tongue, followed by a strong salty, vinegary flavor.

It tasted like eating burnt salt.

"Pfft!" Mia, sitting across from him, immediately spat out the food in pain. "Second sister! What the hell is this?! Can anyone even eat this?! Bleh! It’s disgusting!!"

"Dead girl! You ungrateful thing! I woke up early this morning and cooked until now for you two!! If you don’t want to eat, then don’t eat! Brother-in-law will definitely like it, right?"

"Brother-in-law! Tell me, is it good?" Emma turned to Evan with hopeful eyes, desperately wanting some encouragement.

"Cough cough!~~ Bleh!~~" Evan had originally planned to endure it and give Emma some confidence.

But the food was truly hell-level disgusting. He couldn’t hold it in and spat it out right after her.
