Chapter 79: Chapter 79

She still looked like an aloof snow lotus blooming in the void, cold, proud, untainted.

Only now they’d have to swallow the truth that she’d become a snow lotus belonging to the demon race.

"The only person in this world with the right to be disappointed in me is my Master."

"You... aren’t worthy."

Her voice rang out as if it fell from the void, freezing and strict, allowing no argument.

A stir ran through the crowd, they ground their teeth and muttered every kind of guess among themselves.

No one had seen this coming, the Empress of Cold Moon, who’d once treated demon-slaying as sacred faith, had turned into a completely different person.

Neal shut his eyes and shook his head. "As a Great Emperor of the human race, you’ve degraded yourself."

"Heh." Lysara lifted her eyes to him, then swept them across the thousands of cultivators.

"Your proud Emperor Grant was no more noble than I am."

Neal’s stare went cold and venomous. "My father paved the road and built absolute prestige for our people. To protect the Moonveil Human Domain he wore himself to nothing, gave his whole life."

"I forbid you to insult him."

"Is that so?" Lysara couldn’t hold back a mocking laugh, every time she pictured Grant groveling at Soren’s feet to beg for his life, offering up every faction and cultivator in the domain as chips to survive, she lost the last of her faith in their so-called righteous path.

Her crimson dress fluttered, the wind pressing fabric to her silhouette, tracing sharp exquisite lines and an unearthly air, her gaze was colder and more wickedly enchanting than before.

Grip tightening on her sword, she thrust straight at him.

Neal only flicked his wrist, on the signal, a Lower-Tier Human Emperor rushed out to intercept her.

Soren watched with a faint smile and made no move, he wanted to see how far she could push herself.

Neal and his people held still too, waiting for their moment, charging Soren blind would only end in defeat, that man was no ordinary Middle-Tier Demon Emperor.

None of them knew he’d broken into Upper-Tier days ago, he’d kept it quiet, so word never spread.

In their minds his strength was still frozen at the Middle-Tier level from when he’d attacked the Endless Demonic Domain, since entering Moonveil he’d hidden his aura, leaving them unable to gauge his depth.

Even so, Neal and the two mystery cultivators flanking him sensed a threat buried in his demonic might, but figuring he’d only just reached Middle-Tier and couldn’t possibly leap to Upper-Tier that fast, the three swallowed their unease.

They marked it up to his demonic might being far denser than most, a dangerous opponent, nothing more.

Swords met, sparks spraying, Lysara moved like a snow lotus drifting through a storm, every light tap of her toes on the air sending ripples across the void, her swordwork was gorgeous.

In under ten exchanges she overwhelmed the Lower-Tier Human Emperor, took two of his fingers with one sharp cut, and drove him back howling.

"Damn it!"

"How’d she get this strong?" The man clutched his bleeding hand, staring at his severed fingers. His mind reeled.

Lysara was the most recently advanced Lower-Tier Human Emperor in the domain, ranked fifth.

By all logic her foundation should have been the shakiest, yet after a month apart she’d steamrolled an opponent at the exact same realm.

The gap had turned glaring.

Even Lysara was surprised, she’d braced for a brutal fight, instead her opponent’s movements looked sluggish, riddled with openings.

She turned recent events over in her head, she hadn’t spent real time in seclusion lately, why had her combat strength spiked this hard?

The only explanation was those few intimate sessions with Soren, could that really raise a person’s strength? It sounded ridiculous, but turning it over, she felt a strange certainty.

Her hunch was right, though only Soren knew the mechanics, she hadn’t lit her final tier yet, so she had no special relationship title, no direct destiny feedback to evolve her constitution.

The dual cultivation still passively strengthened her foundation and vitality.

"Lysara, don’t walk any further down this path." Neal wrapped his voice in spiritual energy and sent it straight into her ear.

"Turn back now, there’s still time."

"Agree to three conditions and I’ll guarantee your absolute safety."

Ever since learning from Grant about the matchmaking plan, Lysara had felt instinctive revulsion toward him.

"I’ve taken command of the Imperial Palace," Neal went on.

"The whole Moonveil Human Domain answers to me."

"Come back to my side."

"Trust that I have the power to protect you."

"Right now I hold the absolute means to wipe out that fiend Soren."

"My trump card is beyond anything you can imagine."

Lysara caught the word, she needed to know what gave him the nerve to think he could kill Soren when even his father had failed.

"What conditions do you want me to accept?" she sent back.

A flicker of excitement lit Neal’s eyes, he tamped it down, though his gaze still crawled greedily over her figure. "First, when Soren’s trapped with no way out, you strike the killing blow."

"Only that can wash off the shame of your betrayal."

Lysara kept her face unreadable. "And the second?"

"Second, you become my woman."

Her grip tightened a hair on the hilt, she made herself stay patient and asked for the last one.

"Third, you help me cultivate a secret technique."

"As the holder of the Extreme Yin Holy Body, only you can help me achieve it."

Lysara let out a cool, dismissive chuckle. "You’re that sure your trump card can bring Soren down?"

"Heh, you doubt me?"

"I do."

Neal put his cards on the table. "Do you know who the old man to my left is?"

"He’s the Domain Protector our Imperial Palace spent centuries hunting for."

Lysara felt a real jolt, she hadn’t expected Moonveil to actually have a living Domain Protector, but Protectors lived in absolute seclusion, ignoring worldly power struggles, short of total annihilation they never showed.

How had Neal pulled him out?

Reading her shock, Neal pressed on, smug. "I used certain methods to secure his help, as for what those were, you don’t need to know."

"What matters is he’s a genuine Upper-Tier Human Emperor."
