Chapter 43: Chapter 43
The third had yet to actually happen, that didn’t stop Ethel from carving it into her heart.
Inside the clan territory, in a magnificent palace deep within the mountain.
Osmond and the Elders had withdrawn, only Soren, Lysara, and the siblings remained.
Jared was grateful, but one thing eluded him, why would Soren help him at all?
Soren’s answer was simple.
"Your situation and Ethel’s within the Spirit race is much like mine within the demon race."
"My goal is not this little Black Dragon Mountain, it is the entire Azure Spirit World."
"Clan Chief is merely your starting point, not your end."
"If someday you prove worthy, carry the banner of Grand Commander of the Spirit race, and stand with me in uniting the four races, I will be very pleased."
"There is one more reason."
"Ethel is very pure, if anything happens to you, her older brother, she will never be happy again."
If the first points were a war chariot carrying Soren’s ambition, the last was the hammer that shattered every guard Jared had left, his sister was his everything, seeing how much Soren valued her, warmth spread through his chest.
"Alright, as long as the Demon Emperor treats Ethel well, ask anything of me."
"I will obey the Demon Emperor’s every command."
"This life of mine is yours."
Jared’s loyalty shifted, and on the panel, Deep Affection and Righteousness lit up.
Conquering the siblings had become a self-feeding cycle.
Though the real crux was that Soren didn’t dislike Ethel, otherwise he would never have changed his plans on a whim and turned Jared into someone he needed.
His first goal inside Black Dragon Mountain was done, before long, the Ice Heaven Alluring Fox clan would be a core piece of his Spirit army.
He had traveled far today, time to unwind before the next move. "You and Ethel head out first."
Jared nodded tactfully and led Ethel out, who looked back at Soren every three steps.
Lysara dropped into a chair, eyes brimming with resentment, and the word slipped out on its own.
"Beast."
Soren pulled her into his arms with one tug. "What did you call me?"
Her face flamed. "Your actions are no different from a beast’s!"
"You are the worst, most evil, most ruthless demon in the Azure Spirit World!"
"Wrong answer, say it again."
"I will say it a hundred times, you’re still a beast! A demon!"
"Starting today, you will call me Master, same as Bruce and the others, call me wrong, and you accept punishment."
Her flush boiled over into fury. "Dream on."
"Then I’ll give you a chance to resist."
"I can turn my back and suppress my realm to Lower-Tier Demon Emperor."
"Get within half a step of me, and I will never make things difficult for you again."
"I’ll even let you walk free."
Soren meant to manufacture a moment of pure intimidation, he tossed Lysara a sword, Grant’s Emperor-tier weapon.
Then he truly suppressed his demonic energy and turned his back.
The sheer confidence was open contempt, Lysara bit down on her teeth, feeling slapped across the face, snatched up the sword, and charged.
"You said it."
Her techniques flowed through endless changes, Soren waved a hand and flicked one finger, a burst of violent demonic energy knocked the blade clean out of her grip.
She stood dumbfounded, hands numb, arms aching as if wrenched from their sockets.
His power and his absolute disdain made her feel like a clown, her mood hit the floor, the pride she had carried since childhood was ground to powder.
"I gave you a chance, you’re the one who failed to take it."
His demonic energy erupted and blasted her away, slicing like blades, landing seventy, eighty, a hundred cuts in a breath, Lysara crashed into the corner.
On the Strategy Encyclopedia, Deep Affection and Righteousness glowed faintly, barely a second. Then it dimmed again.
The Grant incident cracked her Dao Heart and collapsed her beliefs, her tier would climb much faster now.
A thought flipped the Strategy Encyclopedia into Six Paths Form Diagram mode, and his gaze settled on the Heavenly Dao Demonic Form.
Unlike the other five Dao Lords, she had stopped struggling.
Her divine garments had given way to a faint, half-real demonic dress, and through its thin weave her flawless jade body showed plainly.
Above the form’s head hung a horizontal energy bar, a number beside it, her Conversion Degree, the higher it climbed, the further his salvation of the demonic form had gone, and the stronger the abilities he could draw from her.
While Lysara recovered, he cultivated, he wanted the Heavenly Dao Demonic Form liberated soon, and his Devour strengthened with her.
Half an hour took the Conversion Degree from 17 to 23.
Then he sensed something and stopped.
Lysara struggled upright, coughing, touching skin the demonic energy had cut open and already healed.
That stinking bastard is too merciless! Yes, I have the Extreme Yin Holy Body, my soul cannot die, my Dao body cannot perish, the pain is still real! He doesn’t know the first thing about being tender with a woman!
And how strange, he’s gentle enough with Ethel, why is it so different with me?
While she puzzled over it, Soren appeared behind her like a phantom, his large hand settled on her shoulder.
She startled, and her heart began to slam, blood running hot as if boiling.
To her, that hand was a sword hanging overhead, she couldn’t guess when it would fall.
She didn’t dare turn her head, didn’t dare show a flicker of anger.
For the first time, she felt real regret, deep regret, for ever provoking this god of slaughter.
It’s because I listened to Grant’s slander, swallowed that nonsense about eradicating every demon alive! Now I’ve failed my majesty as a Human Empress, fallen into Soren’s hands, and been reduced to his...
Her thoughts scattered, her Dao Heart couldn’t find its footing.
Soren leaned close, breathing in her delicate fragrance, his voice landing just behind her ear.
"Do you know why I didn’t extract your Dao soul and seal it away?"
"Because I wronged you, and you’re taking revenge, sealing my Dao soul would let me off too easily."
"Half right, there’s another half."
"You want to cultivate me into your subordinate, make me, a Human Empress, help you deal with the human race."
"Pfft, subordinate?" His sudden laugh made her frown.
