Chapter 30: Chapter 30

In the next second, it vanished from the compass entirely.

Fortunately, Soren and Victoria had already tracked it to the vicinity.

Emperor-realm experts could hide inside an independent space, concealing their aura completely, every being’s aura ran on its own frequency, and a hair’s difference meant a world of separation.

Without the exact frequency, no outsider could break another’s space open.

When the pursuer was an expert of the same realm, most Great Emperors would never dare hide that way.

Seal the whole space shut with them inside, and they would never come out again.

Victoria halted first in the sky above the forest, Soren and Bruce close behind.

Her eyes burned like twin red flames as they swept the ground below.

"The dot vanished from the compass, Elvis’s man is dead."

"And Grant is not fool enough to hide inside an independent space."

"He’s down there."

She moved to descend, Soren caught her wrist. "His strength is beneath yours watch for a trap."

He glanced back at Bruce, Bruce understood instantly.

The great hammer swung, and a bolt of lightning dozens of meters thick came crashing down. It roared through the ancient forest and blasted the earth apart for ten miles in every direction.

Out of the detonated woods, two figures shot into the open sky. Grant, and a human follower he’d brought along.

"Hehe! They were down there after all!" Bruce cheered, swinging his hammer in delight.

Even Emperor-realm experts, to fully shield their aura, had to strangle their energy down and abandon their defenses, the strike of a Middle-Tier Demon Venerable had been enough to flush him out.

Grant pulled off his mask, revealing a face with features sharp as knife-cuts, he did not look pleased.

To keep things from spiraling, he made the first move toward courtesy, cupping his hands.

"Haha, so it is the Fairy Great Demon Emperor."

"It has truly been a long time."

"The Fairy arrives bristling with hostility, how exactly have I offended you, that you’d chase me down all this way?"

Victoria regarded him idly, her voice held all the warmth of a glacier.

"The Violet Jade Immortal Domain and the Moonveil Human Domain are at war, as ever."

"And here you are, a Great Emperor of the human race, sneaking into my domain, hiding your identity, sitting in on my Commerce Guild’s auction."

"I suspect an ulterior motive."

"On that count alone, you will find it difficult to leave here alive."

Grant opened his mouth to spin more pleasantries, Victoria declined to hear them.

Her jade hand closed on the empty air, pure demonic energy condensed at her fingertips, and a death scythe shimmering with interwoven purple and black light lay in her grip.

The scythe ran a full six meters, the blade alone a meter across. It belonged to the heavier class of Emperor-tier weapons.

"Soren, your realm is beneath his, it would be a shame if you took a loss at his hands."

"Stand back, I’ll do it."

Her voice fell, and she became a streak of purple tearing across the sky, the scythe dancing with her.

Bruce finally sensed something about Victoria wasn’t adding up, he leaned toward Soren. "Master, it seems like the Fairy Great Demon Emperor is... looking out for you?"

"When something’s abnormal, there’s a demon at work!"

The blockhead knew that proverb.

"Do you understand love?" Soren folded his arms with an air of great profundity.

"I don’t understand! I only understand orders!"

"Master’s orders above all else!"

"Then even if I explained, you wouldn’t get it."

"Oh."

In the time master and servant traded those lines, Victoria had put on a display that beggared belief.

Grant barely slipped her first wave, the Upper-Tier Human Venerable at his side had no such luck, Victoria’s scythe swept wild arcs, and the man came apart into thirty-six pieces, blood sprayed off the blade and wove into a vast crimson net across the sky.

Victoria laughed, low and bloodthirsty, her voice saturated with killing intent, even at his distance, the pressure shoved Bruce three steps backward, his mouth falling open into a perfect O.

Only now did he grasp how terrifying Victoria truly was, she had let him off earlier purely on his master’s account.

Otherwise, his end would have made that Human Venerable’s look gentle.

"Master... the Fairy Great Demon Emperor is so strong!"

Soren remained unmoved. "Obviously, an Upper-Tier Demon Emperor killing an Upper-Tier Human Venerable is child’s play."

"But something’s off here."

Something was very off.

Grant was an Upper-Tier Great Emperor himself, he would never commit a rookie blunder like leaving an Upper-Tier Human Venerable exposed to die.

If he’d brought the man, the man was a trusted confidant.

With the sides this mismatched, the correct move was to stow the Venerable in an independent space, or wall him off behind a formation, anything to keep him from becoming a liability.

Strange, Soren kept watching.

Dodging frantically, Grant tried persuasion.

"Fairy Great Demon Emperor, I have no wish to fight you to the death!"

"We are both Upper-Tier Emperors, even granting that my strength falls short of yours, you cannot kill me easily."

"Let us stop here, agree to stand down, and I will pretend today never happened."

Soren’s eyebrow ticked upward.

Your trusted subordinate was just carved into pieces, and you’re still offering to compromise?

No, that was wrong.

Grant suddenly whirled and released over a dozen spiritual beasts from his independent space, all lunging straight at Victoria, spiritual beasts, like demonic beasts, came in ranks.

Of the twelve, one stood at the late Venerable stage, its strength on par with an Upper-Tier Human Venerable.

The remaining eleven were low or mid Venerable stage.

Every one was blood-contracted to Grant, a component of his total fighting strength.

Against Victoria, they amounted to nothing.

One sweep of the giant scythe loosed twelve blades of wind, and each blade shredded one beast, she showed no mercy whatsoever, a bloodthirsty Asura in a woman’s shape.

The beasts’ blood sprayed across her long dress.

The dress should have been dyed red, but this dress was far too special, the stains rinsed themselves away the instant they landed, and the fabric stayed spotless from first drop to last.

Victoria found herself thoroughly pleased with her new Emperor-tier weapon, and thoroughly contemptuous of Grant.
